Note: This blog was posted forthe purpose of humorand not to point out to Admins that a shop with the same name as the website exists. So please, don't sue whoever runs this shop for having the same name and logo as yours. The owner might be a big fan of yours and naming his/her store after your website is a nice gesture after all, let alone the fact that it works as a way to advertise for your website.

One day, I was shopping for new games in this old complex which everyone who plays games in Kuwait goes to. A surprise awaits me everytime I go there but this time, it was different. I ran into a shop that has the same name and logo as Gamespot. I couldn't ask the salesmen about the owner nor how the name was chosen because the shop was a bit crowded and I couldn't get it. I hate crowded places! Despite of the fact that the name Gamespot and the logo designed by the media team are trade marks owned by Cnet, I think it's a nice gesture. It shows how popular the website is over here. Next time I go there, I'm going to ask the owner about the story behind the name.

That's amazing! I did not know such a store exists. I also don't like crowded places.

btw, how is it in Kuwait?

It only exists in Kuwait XD Kuwait is awesome but the weather is bad because we're having a series of dust storms.

That is very interesting! I wonder if it is a direct affiliate of CNET or if they are just using their Logo/Name???

I have only been to the middle east like a few times. The weather can be very hot.

I knew you had friends in Kuwait, but didn't know you were there now.

Hey! Real interesting They must be daring people running that place! GS is kind of hard on these things.
Posted Feb 22, 2009 12:18 pm PT
I didn't know that. For some reason, I thought you were Canadian.
Posted Feb 22, 2009 12:20 pm PT
The interesting thing is that they clearly re-designed the logo. Gamespot's current logo features shading and thicker text - the store owner's must have seen the website logo and re-created it from scratch!

I had no idea that you lived in Kuwait, gq. Are you Kuwaiti?

There was a topic in Technical Support at http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26785994. That one is in Indonesia apparently though, while this one is in Kuwait. Weird.

WOW! That actually is very nice! It would actually be cool if we had Gamespot's instead of Gametops here in the US!
Posted Feb 22, 2009 3:32 pm PT
Whoa! Hehe. Never saw that coming, Gamespot trying to branch out? Look out Gamestop, you are going down! That's sure something you don't see everyday.
Posted Feb 22, 2009 4:46 pm PT
lol thats funny... but they may get sued!!

Really cool name for a store. That is awesome

At first i had trouble keeping Gamespot and Gamestop straight but have shopped at one often enough and come to the other on my computer so often

I only saw Kuwait in 1991 so saw very little and not at the best time for visiting.

I also saw a store named Best Buy located in same city where Gamespot is, and when I asked them if they represent BB officially, they say with no hesitation "NO" , we in Kuwait are pretty good in ripping off stores names , logo and trademarks and I actually get used to it. and thats really funny, I wonder if we may get store for gamestop too
Posted Feb 23, 2009 10:11 pm PT
@Hero: qaweiya... and I thought that place was REALLY a best buy store.
Posted Feb 24, 2009 7:29 am PT
maybe he has a partnership with gamespot or something. actually the letter "O" in gamespot has shorter spikes coming out of it than the real one. i dont know looks like it.
