Thanks for all the positive comments on my Conker's Pocket Tails review. I actually got around to writing my next review this week!

GG's Review #9

re5box.jpg Resident Evil 5 picture by gamergirl_15

Read my review here.

I really enjoyed Resident Evil 5, but I was a tiny bit disappointed with it. Honestly, I was expecting more new features. Other than the new partner system and over the top action, it is pretty much the same as Resident Evil 4. The whole new direction of the RE series doesn't bother me though. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the old RE games, but I'm fine with the new action packed Resident Evil.

Let me know what you think of the review!

-Gaming Updates-

I've hunted down a copy of Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles from eBay. Turns out the seller lived 20 minutes away from me, so they offered to refund my shipping cost if I picked it up myself. Small world... I probably won't get a chance to play it for a while though.

I'm a lot closer to getting the platinum trophy! I found all the treasure and BSAA emblems. I just have to beat the game on Professional, find/upgrade all the weapons, and get all the figures, then I'm home free! I might go for the DLC trophies too, but they aren't required for the platinum. Plus I'm really bad at the Mercenaries mini game

-Progress: Beat the game on Veteran. I'm currently trying to get a "S rank" on all chapters in Amateur, to get all the figures, before jumping into Professional.

-New Trophies:

(Bronze)

(Silver)

World of Warcraft

Uh, yeah... I started playing WoW again Patch 3.2 came out on Tuesday which changed a lot of things in the game. For one, you get experience in Battlegrounds (PVP places for you non-addicts ). I'm looking forward to leveling up my Orc Hunter, Saayuko, by just running Battlegrounds. She has been parked at 49 for over a year since I've only been doing PVP stuff. My level 80 druid has an awesome new kitty and bear form now. They also added a new battleground but I can't play it because my computer can't seem to handle it. I'm in serious need of an upgrade if my computer is struggling to play WoW.

-Progress: Leveling up my 49 hunter through Battlegrounds. My level 80 is just doing the new daily quests and I might try the new 5 man dungeon.

-Latest Achievement:

-GameSpot Updates-

I lost an emblem. It's probably because I've been reviewing more games, but I hope it's just a glitch. If not, I'll miss you Fish Bowl...

-Life Updates-

Great news!! My senior year project isn't due until the end of September now! It's quite a relief because we are no where near completed yet. Plus my partner and I both have other stuff going on in our lives at the moment.

I start my work term at a local TV station on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I don't get paid but my boss is awesome! He said if I saw anything that interested me, he could arrange for me to learn more about it. I'm going to see if I can sneak my way on TV He also said he will arrange for me to ride along in the satellite truck sometime when it goes out for news stories. He also has a jumble of wires for me to organize for one of the main computer servers. Not really looking forward to dealing with that...

For anyone in Atlantic Canada, if CTV goes off the air in the next 5 weeks, it's probably my fault

Monday, I have to get a MIR scan for my medical issue. I remember getting one when I was small, but I think it kind of freaked me out It's basically a tunnel thing rotating around you using a magnetic field to take pictures of your organs and stuff. I'm curious as to how it works since I have an Electronics background now After that, I should be closer to finding out when I have to get that surgery.

Yep, I've got a busy week ahead of me! Which is good because I started watching "All My Children" due to being bored this week (Did Kendall really shoot Stuart? )

Have an awesome week guys!

It's good to see you gaming again. I played through RE5 on my 360, I'm kind of wishing now that I would have got it for my PS3. The MIR itself is nothing to worry about, I've had so many done that I've lost track on how many. It's a bit noisy but I usually end up falling asleep while they're doing them.

You watch "soaps"? Great blog and great quote!!!

I remember playing Conkers Pocket Tails when I was young. It was a great game.

I liked RE4 to RE5. Even though Ashley wasn't helpful at all it gave the game more of a challenge. I don't mind how the series is going either, even though I am pretty new to it only having played 2 of the games.

About your review, spice it up. You start too many sentences with 'the' and other such banal intros. Also, your description of QTE's was confusing, but of course I understood, but for someone undipped in the pool of gaming knowledge, it'll be confusing. Otherwise, nice review, gets the job done. I can easily see that you are familiar with the series and acknowledge the changes in RE5, but you like them.

On a personal note, I liked RE5 because the story was just as poorly written and executed as the other games. Irving was clearly a stepping stone to make Wesker seem cooler, and Excella's death was so predictable I could almost say her lines before she said them. There was enough cheese and plot holes and stupidly awesome lines to make it have the RE5 feeling as well. Although I did not like the whole BSAA and military presence and 'I am Wesker and I will destroy all the chaff' elements, it was campy and ridiculous, just how RE should be. The whole Jill thing was almost done with flair as well, too bad a cinematic battle like that doesn't work well with the RE tank controls. In fact, that fight was almost ironic in a sense, from a mechanical and story point of view.

Ok I rambled there, but too bad.

Well hell, what you doing on here?
get to work on the paper! hut 2 hut 2!!!!!
Posted Aug 7, 2009 8:17 pm PT
*scratches head... I dun think I have any platniums lol. loads of work involved in them Good luck!

lol I would love if CTV went off the air JK.

AMC is still on!? I remember my mom watching that when... I was like 4! lol.

What exactly do you need to have done surgery wise?
Posted Aug 7, 2009 8:26 pm PT
platinums are overrated.
Posted Aug 7, 2009 8:36 pm PT
A TV station? That sounds like fun and a bit challenging.
Posted Aug 7, 2009 9:41 pm PT
Well good luck with getting the platinum trophy. And that is crazy about finding some one 20 minutes away to get a game. Guess you are happy about the whole paper thing, I would be too. Your job sounds really cool, and good luck with the MIR thing. I believe they did that to me too when I had my kidney stones. But I can't remember though, in so much pain and on medicine at the time too to kill the pain.

Pretty good review, it covered all the main features of the game. However, I have to agree with grafkhun, there were too many sentences that started off with "the" but all in all, its well written and to the point. I see that you got the PS3 version for RE5, I wouldn't mind helping you beating the game in Professional mode actually. And by the way, if you beat the game on its hardest difficulty, you will also get trophies for beating the game in the Amateur, Veteran mode etc. Nice, I have a friend who just did her internship at a TV company and it went well for her. A lot of great perks and it also makes a great addition to your resume as well. Have fun on the job.
Posted Aug 7, 2009 10:38 pm PT
Good luck for your first platinum. You have a long journey ahead of you.
Posted Aug 8, 2009 5:05 am PT
@WalkingP: Thanks! I was kind of nervous about getting it until I read about it a bit on the internet. It only uses magnetic fields instead of radiation. How's TGU doing? It's been a while since I stopped by.

@katamari: Just one... and it was only for this week. I swear! Thanks!

@siberian142: My first RE game was the fourth one, then I went back and played the original games. That's probably why the new direction doesn't bother me. Sometimes, I wish they would just carry Ashley away

@grafkhun: Thanks for being honest! I blame college for sucking the creative writing skills out of me I didn't realize I was using the, this, then, etc., so much when I was writing it. I also noticed those one liners are still present: "I just had an extreme makeover." for example. It's almost up there with the Jill sandwich comment from the first game. As for the story, I knew what became of Jill as soon as Irving set sail on the ship. Feel free to ramble away though! I do it all the time.

@HawkGamer2008: I'm working on it

@hush404: I dun have any yet either.. Oh and I might try to steal Steve Murphy's lunch sometime AMC has been on for lke 40 years! I only watched it last week though. As for the surgery, I don't really want to go into detail, but you can PM me if you want to know.

@bigmouthkid: I still want one though
Posted Aug 8, 2009 8:15 am PT
@SonicHomeboy: I can't wait until Tuesday!

@Colmillios: Thanks! I was shocked when the seller said they lived near me! Kidney stones sound painful but glad to hear the medication worked!

@david_lck: Thanks! It's probably all the math courses I took in college that made me forget how to write well I'm usually online wit my PS3 during the week, so I might just take you up on that. I'm going to see how bad I am solo first though I forgot about how good that will look on a resume!

@canana: Thanks! I'm looking forward to finishing the journey

I think a lot of people liked RE5 but were also dissapointed at the same. I loved RE4 and was expecting RE5 to be even better, but it just turned out to be a imilar version of RE4 with co-op. I also don't like the fact that the series is slowly becoming more of an action game rather than a survival horror game...what happened to all the scary stuff Oh and great review..as always Good luck on your platinum hunt
Posted Aug 8, 2009 9:04 am PT
Great RE5 review.
Posted Aug 8, 2009 9:28 am PT
still 40 pages i'd fail
Posted Aug 8, 2009 10:47 am PT
To tell you the truth,i like your RE5 review the most,just couldn't believe you actually write that(i know you're smart too so you probably did).
Its a good thing though that they give you and your partner an extention on your project cause i know how busy you must be are with other things so that's cool.
that's awesome what your boss is doing for you,hope to take advantage of that,you're lucky as well.
If i was you,i would just get it over with the MIR scan and roll out of there(if its that simple)but i'm sure that you would be fine.
Once again,that's a great quote,keep on posting them and take care.

Your RE5 review was good. I agreed for the most part. I too want the platinum but I've got a lot left to do. The save data from my first play through disappeared when my ps3 broke. Unfortunately I can't see canadian TV but I'm sure you'll do an excellent job at the TV station. Kind a cool job by the way.
Posted Aug 8, 2009 11:50 am PT
I wish I could get that much useful gaming time into my life!
Posted Aug 8, 2009 1:26 pm PT
Oh no, there was no line in RE5 as awesome as Barry's 'Jill Sandwich' one. When Chris say's "Do you get all your idea's from comic book villains?" to Wesker during the final fight, that was close, but not quite. Then again, the best line from the whole series is definitely the 'Ballistics' one from RE4 by Luis, now that is just too amazing.
Posted Aug 8, 2009 7:51 pm PT
we're definitely on opposite sides of the Resident Evil debate.

I'll always want it to be survival horror (REAL survivor horror with puzzles and open ended exploration). These new action shooter RE's (RE4, RE5, RE:Umbrella Chronicles) are terrible generic rubbish to me, and they make me realize just how good the older RE titles were.
Posted Aug 8, 2009 8:37 pm PT
@herviross_2: I had the same expectations for the 5th one. Come on Capcom, how hard is it to add new gameplay elements? Thanks!

@JusticeCovert: Thanks!!

@HawkGamer2008: I did fail... That's why I'm doing it this summer

@TriniPlayer: Thanks! I love writing stuff and kind of wish I would have took something similar in college. I'm really looking forward to the work term though.

@anzelm: Ouch! Sorry to hear your save data got wiped. If you need any help with anything, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks!

@Freer: It won't last for long, unfortunately.

@grafkhun: Ah, I forgot about that one! The "I knew that you'd be fine if you landed on your butt." one from Leon was kind of funny too.

@TheKungFool: That's probably the reason why many fans of the old RE games don't like the new shooter look. I still have Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica to play through for the first time, so I'm looking forward to experiencing more of the original style Resident Evil.
Posted Aug 9, 2009 8:08 am PT
I'd refuse to do 40 pages
Posted Aug 9, 2009 2:14 pm PT
Great review for RE5 - thumbs up!
Posted Aug 9, 2009 6:47 pm PT
@gamer_girl15: Good luck!

"The whole new direction of the RE series doesn't bother me though. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the old RE games, but I'm fine with the new action packed Resident Evil."

I think Capcom has realized that the game has strayed a little too far from its original direction. I'm predicting that they REmake RE2 or 3, and not with another rail shooter. That seems to be the best move right now.
Posted Aug 9, 2009 9:32 pm PT
WOW? Sacrilege . Let us know when you get on TV.
Posted Aug 9, 2009 9:59 pm PT
good luck on getting Platinum
Posted Aug 10, 2009 10:41 am PT
@HawkGamer2008: I wish I could refuse, but I really want my diploma

@msudude211: Thanks!

@SonicHomeboy: Thank you! I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes.

@ProtegeRuckus: That would be awesome if they came out with REmakes of 2 & 3! Hopefully at least 2, since Ada and Leon are in it

@paul939: But it's fun... If I manage to get on TV, I'll see if I can post a video of it here.

@kingrich06: Thanks!
Posted Aug 10, 2009 2:01 pm PT
yeah, but i'm much lazier than you are

@HawkGamer2008: I'm lazy too! I just really, really, really want that diploma

Posted Aug 10, 2009 3:51 pm PT
Wow... that quick with a new review? Haha, like I'm really one to talk. Anyway, I recommended your RE5 review. Good job. *channels inner Albert Wesker* "Ah! There you are! CHRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISS$$$$SS!!!!!1111oneone111!!!" *silence*

Good luck with S-ranks and Professional mode; sounds like it might be tough.

You didn't... NOT WoW! It'll suck out your soul.

Lucky break with the project, eh? Just make sure not to procrastinate, ok? Hopefully nothing goes wrong with the MIR scan either.
Posted Aug 10, 2009 6:27 pm PT
Have you started hanging out with your Ebay buddy. You working for CTV. Local? That's some pretty awesome experience.
Posted Aug 11, 2009 4:22 pm PT
@HawkGamer2008: I guess it would be considered Asscociates since my program is only 2 years. I do have the option to attend an actual university for 2 years. after I graduate. and get a full engineering degree, but no way! I've had enough of school

@DesertClawX2X: I probably won't write another one for a while though. I must have heard Wesker say "Ah! There you are!" at least 100 times Thanks! I'm ignoring the WoW comment though I got the scan over with yesterday afternoon. It was loud, uncomfortable, took forever, and they had to inject me with an IV full of some image enhancing element, but other than that, it wasn't so bad How is your Editorial blog coming along by the way? Still waiting...

@lancelot200: No, but I do know who to buy stuff from in the future Yep, I'm working for the local CTV station. I work in the Engineering department, but I did get to meet Starr Dobson. I also saw Steve Murphy and Cindy Day in the lunch room. They're only local celeberties but I was still a little star-struck
Posted Aug 11, 2009 6:44 pm PT
They aren't that local. They show up on my TV too. Halifax is like the center of the Maritime.
Posted Aug 11, 2009 6:57 pm PT
@lancelot200: Go Halifax!
Posted Aug 12, 2009 5:30 pm PT
OMG only old women like soap operas. You must fight the urge to watch them.

Someone's been on a bit of a blog spree recently. No more being lazy I see?
Posted Aug 14, 2009 6:19 pm PT
i must be crzy then since i'm looking at universities for whrn i finish CC
Posted Aug 15, 2009 2:15 pm PT
@soulless4now: I haven't watched anymore! Although I really wanted to know who shot Stuart I'm actually feeling the urge to disappear again... stupid work

@HawkGamer2008: Really crazy!

i sould be committed

@HawkGamer2008: Let me know when they drag you away

then i'll rat you out so we can be cell mates

u managed to get some hard to get trophies for resident evil 5. I only got the chapters and some combat trophies. I am trying to get GTA 4 Platnium trophy. Its easy once u have the official guide. good luck getting the platnium though.

I read your review and recommended it. Good luck with everything!
Posted Aug 19, 2009 6:02 pm PT
Really nice review,but then again,you don't remember me (sigh) !
Posted Aug 19, 2009 8:59 pm PT
I recently went back to RE5 after having not played it for months, and I'm loving it all over again. Thanks GG, you've given me the kick I needed to go after more trophies. I know people decry achievements and trophies, but they're personally a great way to get me to go back to a game. Looks like I'm gonna have the same problem getting this platinum as I had in Dead Space: extreme difficulty mode!
Posted Aug 20, 2009 12:42 am PT
@HawkGamer2008: I wouldn't recommend doing that, Rat...

@furqan2006: Thanks! I've been using internet guides for help with getting all the trophies. Good luck with the GTA IV trophy.

@chandu83: Thanks!

@Chirodip_08: Thanks! Sorry I have a short memory

@T-Prime: Yay, I inspired someone to play more RE5! I find achievements and trophies give great incentive to try out and find everything in a game. If I wasn't going for the platinum, I know I would have stopped playing RE5 as soon as I beat it. I haven't even tried RE5 super difficult mode yet since I'm kind of scared
Posted Aug 20, 2009 4:51 pm PT
why not Gotta have a cell mate who makes me look saner than i really am it'll be fun
