I had someone ask me an odd question the other day:  Would I ever consider selling my 1000+ game collection?

Normally, my answer would have been a flat-out "Hell, no!"..I wouldnt even have to think about it!  But for some strange reason, I actually considered the question first, and then answered with a flat-out "maybe..."  I tried to picture myself without them, playing ROMs on my PC instead (something I have previously always ruled out) and again caught myself saying 'well, maybe'...

Afterwards, I couldn't help but wonder if I were losing my mind (more so than usual), and decided to put off any serious thoughts concerning that until after my life settled down a bit.  I'm actually quitting my job and returning to school, so maybe its just having pre-major-life-change, pre-no-steady-income, pre-school jitters...so don't PM me with offers for games just yet ok?

I used to contemplate selling my collection at times, also. I've even gone so far as to write a very tantalizing auction listing to put it up on eBay. In some ways, it would be nice to channel the years of work that you've done in building a quality game collection into money for a car, a great vacation, part of a house downpayment, etc. If someone offered me what I feel my collection is worth, it would be a tempting offer. I'd most likely still say no, but it would tempt.
My problem is selling it piecemeal. I would have to get rid of it all at once, or I'd rationalize keeping every little thing and it would take way too long to divest myself of the collection. Since I'd lose a lot of money by selling in one lump, I won't do that, so my collection probably isn't going to leave me any time soon.

I've seen 1000+ collections get sold on ebay, they get more money then 1 person could possibly have...

True, usually the buyers are companies that are going to resell individually at a profit. Now that I've been getting into buying game lots to lower my cost per game, this is who I'm bidding against.

All that time collecting a putting together such a fabulous collection. I say now way don't do it!! Unless you really need the money. I've been on vacations and they suck compared to video games. Bad food, water, expectations lower then what I imagined, ha ha. You're to passionate about your games never give it up!!!

I have never sold anything that is a game or hardware in my life ever.
The games I had when i was a kid are still here and still taken care of.

Even at 5 or 6 I knew the machine was sacred ground not to be ruff with.

That is 20+ years worht of games and I would never give them up
if a chair or couch has to go to make room for a game storage unit then so be it.

If others are selling there stuff at good prices i see no reason not to adopt it off them I have 5 copys of air zonk i could not just let sit and rot somewhere.

It sounds like, if you are quitting your job and going back to school, that you may just be in a place in your life where any possibility is ponderable. Don't do anything rash in this time.

I have similar tendencies.
