Since I started playing guitar, my music tastes have changed radically. I have two Metallica songs on my phone. If you had told me five years ago that I would be listening to Metallica in the future, I would have laughed. Today I can accept sub-par singing because of the guitar behind it, and I'm a much deeper person (musically) because of it. Right now my favourite artists are :
Led Zeppelin - especially Stairway to Heaven. But they are just generally amazing! Jimmy Page's guitar is brilliant, and it's even better when you learn how to play the songs with great riffs (Heartbreaker, Black Dog). Robert Plant, as odd as he looks, has a great voice, with an amazing range! I hope they do do a world tour, and it comes to Geneva (fat chance)
Guns N Roses - Slash, even though he has no face, rules! Axl, somewhat less - it amazes me that this guy sings Civil War and Welcome to the Jungle, but there you go.
Audioslave/Rage Against the Machine - I've grouped these together, because their main attraction is Tom Morello, and he is in both of them. The crazy stuff he does with a guitar is just ... crazy, and he does all sorts of stuff (The Nwatchman (censored for some reason) is just Tom Morello and an acoustic guitar, and some rebellious lyrics). But they are difficult to compare - Audioslave is more musical, Rage Against the Machine is more "F*** you I won't do what you tell me!" actual quote from (Killing in the Name).
Jimi Hendrix - He's Jimi Hendrix. What more do you need to know?
Epic Songs - not really an artist, but epic songs, to me are things that start vaguely calmly, and just gradually get more and more excited, till the end, where it explodes (eg - Stairway to Heaven, Knights of Cydonia, Achilles Last Stand).
With any luck, quite soon, I'll have three new CDs - Greatest Hits from Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Guns N Roses, so I'm looking forward to that.

As some of you may know, I recently finished my story, and I started playing guitar in spring. You may also know that I am saving up for a PS3. Well, after some discussion with my father, and some hard thinking, I have decided to give up on the PS3, and focus on my music and my writing.
After all, next year, I'm leaving secondary school (college in france) and moving up to 6th form (lycee in france) and by the time I can afford a PS3, I'll be doing the baccalaureat, so I won't have time to play that much. Besides, I can get some of the next-gen via the Wii, and there are still millions of PS2 games I haven't experienced yet.
For the moment, guitar isn't that expensive - I have everything I need, and I'm too crap to need pedals and stuff. But by May next year, I might want to upgrade amp, and definitely get a pedal or two (I want a Wah-Wah). This Xmas, I'll buy guitar books, to help progress, and mebbe a game or two
.
So, just to let you know, because this is quite a big change for me, but it's hard to say much about it.
I downloaded the WoW 10 day free trial (in Europe we get less
) and I stayed up until 4 am playing! That game is hella addictive, even though so far, my quests have either been - give this dude a letter or kill a boatload of these monsters and bring me their skins, or just kill them, or find some random items. Maybe they're just the beginner quests...
As for the whole MMO bit of MMORPG - with my Tauren, I paired up with some dude to help him do a quest I had just finished, and when he was done he just ran off (Grr), and I conscripted some guy to help me fight some little goblin things that had killed me three times, and with my dwarf hunter, most people were gits, but someone helped me fight off a million trolls - he even killed the chief for me, so I could finish the quest!
I'll probably do a detailed blog about my experiences at the end of the trial period. So how many of you were once hooked on the WoW? How many of you have kicked the habit?
