**Quick update: I'm no longer working at Edelman...looking into other opp's atm.
Just heard back yesterday--I got a job offer from Edelman, Microsoft's PR agency. I'll be working on the Xbox Games team to help Microsoft launch its major first-party titles, write its press releases, and prepare for tradeshows like E3
Here's an article about how Edelman worked with Microsoft to launch Halo 3 (link).
This is a really exciting opportunity for me and one that I've been working towards for awhile now. I really think that games are the next great art form, and I'm looking forward to making my own impact towards expanding its popularity.
I think the first project I'll be helping out with is Fable 2. I won't be able to talk about the projects I'm working, though, (apart from what's publicly known) as I'll be under strict NDA.
It's crazy to think, though, that 2 years ago I was playing Fable, and now I'm helping to launch its sequel ![]()
For those of you who are already in the game industry or who plan to be in a few years--hopefully we'll get a chance to meet in person!

Seriously though congrats, I've always thought it would be cool to work in PR/marketing.
And don't forget to give us free copies of Fable 2
HAZE-Unit: lol...your copy is in the mail
jg4xchamp: yep, I think I'll run across Peter, Cliff B., and other dev's who work on first-party titles.
yoshi: Thanks man...you are without a doubt one of the best posters I know too
jay_rock: "Don't give up"...that's what someone told me while I was doing informational interviews. If you want it and you work hard at it, you'll get in.
sam280992: lol, I think I got over the SW classifications awhile ago. Though since I'll be promoting Xbox games, I'll doubtlessly be somewhat biased
Jynxor: thanks buddy
Cry0Tek: For sure...good luck deciding on your major! And even if you decide to major in something other than PR, keep in mind that you can still get into the field after graduation. I majored in political science and minored in philosophy. Hiring managers are mainly looking for strong writers who can communicate effectively and think quickly on their feet
Blommen: appreciate it, man
My advice would be to take the time to enjoy college and use it as an opportunity to explore what you like...eventually your aspirations will naturally match with your unique skill set
Oh and if you don't mind me asking, what did you major in during college?
Syrinx: lol thanks...now I'm scared for my life!
Orin: TY, and best of luck chasing your career dreams too
MoldOnHold: lmao @ the MGS4 thread comment...I majored in political science--it's a major that emphasizes writing, which I think is helpful if you're interested in PR
FrozenLiquid: hmm...interesting statement...definitely something to keep in mind. Although I think some game trailers do show artistic strength (i.e. the Gears 2 "Rendezvous with Death" trailer and the MGS4 and Bioshock trailers)
But the industry is growing rapidly and I do think we'll get something major soon and if you do come, make sure you come to Melbourne as every other city doesn't have me in it! I'll buy you a beer. The legal age is 18 here...
What part of the US are you from again? Apparently, Texans are quite similar to us Aussies so if you're from there I think you could fit in well. You can rent a kangaroo while you're here to ride to and from work. And obviously, I'll take you to wrestle a crocodile, because that's how we roll in Australia.
You crack me up dude. You have the same random sense of humor that I do.
I'm from Seattle--the stereotype of Seattlelites is that we're latte-drinking, artsy-fartsy, laid-back liberals...which applies to me for the most part except I don't drink coffee
Seattle... interesting. I like that stereotype actually, although Melbourne's somewhat conservative for the most part unfortunately, but we're very laid back so that's a big plus, since people here are uncomplicated...
I don't really drink coffee either. 1) I don't like it, and 2) I've had it spilt on me 5 times (by other people... accidentally - I think). I'd understand if it happened once, but clearly the drink does not agree with me.
Btw, you should post a new blog soon so I can invade it
Mordred: TY man! And we gotta Halo 3 it up again sometime
but congratulations, and best of luck! Hope you have some fun!
the-very-best
That sounds like a really interesting job actually, could be lots of fun coming up with new ways to market and hype up the games. And you've already got some experience in hype anyway, from SW! lol, it's good for something apparently.
Good luck with everything, I'm sure it will all work out well. And if Fable 2 flops, I will blame it on you.
