This will be my final Gamespot blog, and effectively the official end to all of my Gamespot-related activities - tagging, tracking, forumgoing, etc. My Total Access subscription is now kaput as well. I'd like to say that my decision to finally sever ties with this site is based on some sort of righteous fury that I'm feeling toward Cnet and Gamespot over Gerstmanngate, but in reality I haven't felt connected to the community for a while now, and I have grown disillusioned with the obsessive culture of video game news and reviews. Gerstmanngate has been an excellent opportunity to reexamine how we, as gamers, use new media to connect ourselves to our hobby, and now is as convenient a time as any to change. But there's too much skeptic in me to turn revolutionary in response to the latest hubbub. You might say that I'm waiting for the pieces to fall into place. But in any case, I'm moving on, and if my one cancellation matters, then I'll direct a hearty "you go girl!" to the Gerstmann supporters, and if it doesn't, well, I'm already gone.
EDIT: Some clarification is in order. I will still check Gamespot every so often, about as regularly as I do now, which isn't very. And I'll be preserving my lone review and eighteen blogs for the historical record. Also, I recognize that today is this supposed "Blackout Monday", which I find about as compelling as ye olde Internet petition for blank, so that's that.
