Richard Whiteley truly was a legend and one of the nicest people i have ever had the pleasure to switch on, he always brought a smile to your face with his quirky nature and over-the-top dress sense. I don't remember ever seeing him without a cheesy grin on his face, he had an everlasting enthusiasm and i think that was part of what drew people to Countdown in the first place. It was certainly what attracted me to the show and one of the main reasons i continue to watch it even after his death.
Never a bad word was said about Richard and that's one of the reasons his death hit the nation so hard, it certainly knocked the wind out of my sails and it was apparent that the show would never be the same again. Who could possibly fill the shoes of such a beloved character with a heart as big as a mountain. No matter who hosts the show in the future i think it's safe to say that the memory of this great man will never be forgotten, while there is Countdown there will always be Richard.

Peter Crouch is one of those people you instantly warm to, not just for his abilities on the pitch but also his fantastic personality off of it. No matter how much criticism is hurled is way (quite a fair bit) he always handles it with a smile on his face and that says a lot about him as a person.
I remember taking an interest in Peter back in his Southampton days, he stood out from the crowd and that was part of the appeal. His movement and the way he held the ball up was like nothing i had ever seen. He used his ability to head the ball to great effect; brining players into the play with his sharp vision.
When Liverpool first took an interest in him my heart almost skipped a beat, i didn't follow the general consensus and refused to label him a failure before he had even stepped on to Merseyside. I remember being at the Wigan game when he bagged those two goals, i was happier for him proving his doubters wrong than i was for us winning.
Ever since that moment he has gone from strength to strength and as of this moment is the current top scorer for Liverpool. No to mention breaking records internationally with a mightily impressive goals-to-games ratio. Here's hoping Peter improves his game even further in the coming months and even years because i really would love this genuine guy to become a cult hero amongst Kopites and England fans alike.
