First off please be sure to check out my new video of the pros and cons of The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass up in my blog header.

Now lemme get to the real point of this blog, talking about what I feel that this series should improve on. If anything. LoZPH proved to me that the LoZ games can be pretty challenging if they wanted to. Some of the problems that I had with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were that these games seemed far too much on the easy side. It's funny cuz I didn't find the Ocarina of Time that way. But I think I know the main reason that the LoZ games seem easier in easier, especially In terms of boss fights.

It's mainly because the series has rehashed so much, that most of the time it feels like you have done the same thing before in a previous game. But then when I played Phantom Hourglass, I felt challenged again. Mainly becuase the game's touch screen controls open up new ways to interact with the game. Then again PH is very puzzle based, and I have always found the puzzles in Zelda games to be rather difficult.

And don't even get me started on the Oracle of Seasons. I tried playing that game once and will probably never try again, it's just too damn hard. I really think that this series should introduce more difficulty settings, because seriously some of them seem too easy while others seem more challenging. Usually the console versions are easier than the portable ones. It's funny how a game being too easy can be just as frustrating as it being too difficult...

I will be reviewing The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass sometime soon but first I want to experience it online, so if you can play the game online then here is my FC: 4081 4823 9520

So at the end of it all, The Legend of Zelda series continues to be one of my favorite, and I predict my personal score for LoZPH to be:
***SPOILER***

Adios Fanaticos

I feel like PC gaming today...

I think that Zelda game are too easy since Ocarina of Time. I agree with you on the difficulty setting, when I got TP, I was always telling my friend about it having too easy boss fights and that should put a difficulty setting. It's not normal that a final boss only does one heart of damage. I remember in A link to the past, some bosses could do 4 hearts of damage if you still had the first armor.

Oracle of Seasons hard???
try Oracle of Ages, it is twice as hard
Posted Mar 28, 2008 3:25 pm PT
They're like RPG's... without the story, variation, and... something else that they don't have...
Posted Mar 28, 2008 3:28 pm PT

Sounds like a good game, maybe I'll even throw down the cash to get it instead of renting it like I do with most games.
Posted Mar 28, 2008 3:40 pm PT
the legend of zelda have hard puzzles and very easy bosses
but this game serie is very long and its very good to a adventure game
Posted Mar 28, 2008 3:53 pm PT
Curious... i always thought that PH was the easiest loz to date
Posted Mar 28, 2008 3:57 pm PT
I have the counter-part game of Oracle of Seasons, called the Oracle of Ages. I agree, it's too hard for a LoZ game.

I would buy a DS if they remade OoT or MM on it
Posted Mar 28, 2008 4:07 pm PT
hmm.....that game looks good, ill hafta look, into it.........but as for my PC gamin, ill probly go old school with some starcraft or tomb raider 2.........
Posted Mar 28, 2008 4:17 pm PT
PH is a more challenging Zelda game to me.Well, not really to me.Just Hella annoying.I'm on "on that program used to play games" right now.I'll add your fc later.

I found PH was great except for two HUGE points: The stupid Temple of the Ocean King, and the lack of a good OST. Seriously, either there is something wrong with my cart but there were like 3 songs in the whole game....

I also agree that handheld LoZs (old, especially) are harder than console versions. Also, over the years, it has gotten easier. No thanks to the casuals, I am sure.

Zelda = fun with multiplayer (Four Swords was the only Zelda game I found appealing)
Posted Mar 28, 2008 5:34 pm PT
Yeah, PH was difficult to me, in one moment were i was stucked i though i was screwed and my gameplay skills vanished. But well i managed to beat it, it was nice.
Posted Mar 28, 2008 5:38 pm PT
I never really got in to the Zelda games... because they were quite easy... I just noticed your spanish blog... Its a good thing I am Portuguese because spanish and portuguese are almost the same thing...
Posted Mar 28, 2008 5:39 pm PT
Phantom Hourglass was by FAR one of the easiest Zelda games I have ever played. The game was too easy, and every reviewer said so. I think you got it backwards Windwaker had some pretty hard puzzles at the end (last 3 temples or so) and so did Twilight Princess. I didn't even have to think to get past the puzzles in PH. It was more of finding out which equip to use, then you pretty much had the puzzle solved.
Posted Mar 28, 2008 6:08 pm PT
the Oracle game were the hardest Zelda games ever, both had they seemingly impossible challenge
Posted Mar 28, 2008 6:10 pm PT

now to think about it..
yeah, the boss fight in zelda is easy
Posted Mar 28, 2008 7:37 pm PT
Makes me wanna play a Zelda game
Posted Mar 28, 2008 7:49 pm PT
I find it increasingly difficult to get excited about new Zelda games, especially in the past few years. It's never surprising when a new one is announced, as that's always obvious. And of course, you can always be pretty sure of exactly what's going to happen in the games, the main ones at least. That isn't to say that I don't look forward to them, since they tend to be excellent, but they've done almost everything to death in the series.

finger- yea i guess its so the game appeals to newcomers to the series as well but serious there should be a easy mode, hard mode etc

phazon- im too scared to try

king- then...they are not like RPGs...o_0

night- yea just let me know im always ready to brawl

LD- ok good plan cuz i wouldnt want nuttin spoiled for me either

legend- yea you should at least give it a try guil- yea every game does deliver that is true...

barney- was hard for me...either hard or just annoying at times...

hazel- idk if they would do that...i think zelda purest would freak out XD

tri- i dont have starcraft...but i may get the 2nd one...depending if i have acces to my PC upon it's release...

hao- yea the game had very annoying moments that made me just put the DS down and not touch it for days...which is why it took me like a month to beat it since i got it

queen- yea you just made me realize that i just heard the same songs for like...13 hours or however long that game took me...

shiggums- the online multiplayer in this game is ok...its kinda like a strategy game...not bad though unless you play someone with really good strategies...

sha- yea at the end of the game all the trouble was worth it

ricardo- lol i guess they are similar languages...although i cant understand portuguese for my life

blace- well...i suck at PH...i never had a problem with most other LoZ games but this one annoyed me and stumped me quite a bit...

neo- i have Seasons but i just stopped playing it because it was sooooo annoyingly difficult...

jon- you hate the stylus yet you play DS? And yea...i suppose they could give Link some lovin'...PLOT TWIST!!!!!!!

quad- awesome

soul- Which one?

finalsoul- yea cuz they always just hand the clues over to you like you're a little kid >_>

neon- makes me wanna...take a break from zelda

zach- yea the games have been the same and even though they say the next one will be way different, i have a feeling that they're just saying that...then again they came out with SMG and reborned mario...so maybe Link will have his turn...

Grrr!!! I haven't played the handheld Zelda games! does that make me not a Zelda fan then? So they're more puzzled based than the console ones and harder too? I guess that sounds interesting although I kinda suck at puzzles..
I'll be picking up Twilight Princess on the Wii soon though! Maybe i should get a DS for PH? Maybe i'll wait for your personal review eh?

Posted Mar 29, 2008 6:43 am PT
hmm... nice review. I actually found this game one of the reasons my DS hasn;t collected dust somewhere. I believe that in order for Zelda to keep coming back with challenge after challenge in it's endless adventures... the programmers have to sumwhat make the game impossible to beat! I haven't played Oracle of Seasons... be it that the game is my brothers and i have almost no idea what u're talking about... i will google it in a sec and then i will be well informed Again... good thoughts on the game!
Posted Mar 29, 2008 6:55 am PT
thanks and if you play Seasons you will get an idea of what i mean, maybe not at first, but as you progress through the game...

Posted Mar 29, 2008 9:10 am PT
i love Ph, better than TP imo
Posted Mar 29, 2008 9:49 am PT
lol i enjoyed TP more then again i like the console Zelda games better
Posted Mar 29, 2008 9:51 am PT
Yeah, the Zelda series has been getting easier, rather than harder. But it's as you said, their rehashing the series, so it feels like you're doing the same thing in every game. Nintendo need to do something different with the series, if they don't they might have to stop the series. Why? Because sales for the Zelda series in Japan haven't been too good, the series isn't doing as well as used to in Japan. Sure it's doing well everywhere else in the world, but what if sales start to drop everywhere around the world? I don't think Nintendo would keep the series going if it wasn't doing well.

Yea, Zelda certainly needs to change something, and I think it is more than just a harder difficulty level. For me the series has gone hill since Ocarina of Time because it hasn't changed anything and it has gotten way more tedious (all the fricken boating in Wind Waker, and just too much roaming in TP, that game shouldn't have been so damn long...). I'd like the series to become more innovative again and take out so much busy work. I like how God of War progresses, and while I don't think Zelda should be that linear, the amount of roaming these last couple games have required has gotten annoying.
Posted Mar 29, 2008 1:30 pm PT
rake- Well maybe the series needs to disappear for a while, kinda like the Donkey Kong series has...so then when it makes it's return it might just feel new again. dracon- Yea i just realized how much roaming I've done in the games, and usually the nostalgic music allows you to enjoy the roaming...but once that nostalgia wears off...its just kinda...meh...
Posted Mar 29, 2008 3:54 pm PT
I think Majora's Mask was Zelda's finest hour.
Posted Mar 29, 2008 9:24 pm PT
never played it
