I don't know but these days there is a great decrease in good quality music. One of the key defining features of a game is how good its music is.Music is a key and integral part of music but somehow, the standard is going down.
But there are a few games who break apart from that mould and deliver some truly amazing songs. You see the songs/music enhances the player's experience.I still remember the time I used to play and have fun with Chrono Trigger.I remember being pumped with adrenaline when I first heard Lavos destroyed Crono's World in the future. The song - Chrono Trigger was being played and I was suddenly inclined to finishing my quest.THATS what music should be about. It should heighten the player's experience to new levels! People should have that kind of attitude. These days all I hear from games is Licensed songs and that too some of the worst songs ever!! I always liked Video Game songs more than Album Songs.Maybe it must be because the composer really put effort into making the song be in your head.
Music is a part of the atmosphere that a game creates. Its time people stop neglecting this. Bring in some quality stuff people!! Not some generic Trash from mainstream Artists!! Be original! Make something worth effort!!
To me the greatest OST (Original Soundtrack) was Chrono Cross.

This game's music was so wonderfully made, Yasunori Mitsuda really deserves credit. Do yourself a favour and listen to the songs from this album - Radical Dreamers, Scars of Time , Another World , Another Guldove and Star Stealing Girl.
This is a definition of PURE QUALITY!
I was really happy when I played the God Of War games. Both titles had an amazing, sweeping score that it gave a feeling of epic proportions all around. There are some games with good music. Heck all games have music , but very few have ones upto Quality.
Okami - a really good game has a really complex yet simple OST that makes playing the game a joy. But if you look at Resident Evil 4 - thats one amazing game with a score to match its atmosphere with definite success. Just listen to Save Theme after a hard battle with the Ganados. It calms you down and makes you feel tranquil in a way. Heck even Serenity (just before fighting El Gigante ) does its job of giving you a safe feeling before fighting El Gigante. (He's easy.Luring him to attacks and knifing him will do the trick. Also use the trees so that when he pulls it out, you can knife him safely before pressing the dodge buttons. Then 2 bullets to his plaga and climb.Repeat and he is dead.)
I hope that games will have better music. Its really sad to to find games with poor music.I think this is one feature in games that gets neglected a bit too much.Come on people! This is Next Gen.Think about the stuff you can achieve thorugh all the advanced technology! Make the music better!
