After recently watching this film, it amazed me how Adam Sandler can not just do the comedy that I've loved from him for years, but also perform the more emotional and much more meningful characters so convincingly. I wouldn't blame you if you expect to see slapstick fights and plenty of swearing, because that's what Sandler's movies are usually all about. This though was an almost perfect movie for me. It brought very subtle comedy into a very tragic story of a man refusing to move on from the deaths of his wife and three children in the 9/11 attacks. Not only was Sandler on such top form, but Don Cheadle also did brilliatly as the friendly family-man Alan, who has everything that Charlie used to have.

One scene which really shone for me was Charlie's eventual openness towards his college room mate about his lost family. It was so emotionally delivered by Sandler that I almost got thrown by his ability to not only do comedy in such brilliant way, but also show the more personal and emotional sides of a character.

It was the ending though that brought Reign Over Me down slightly. I would have much preferred to see how Charlie was for the rest of his life and whether he had a happy one. It seemed to end abruptly.

Nevertheless this movie was fantastic, and Sandler gave a new refereshing performance to completely give me a new perspective of his talents. The storyline was told very well and this film will long reman one of my favourites.

Its mental that this film got such bad critic reviews. Yeah so it has its bit that don't quite make sense and some of it is cheesy but come on... its brilliantly funny. You shove a grumpy twenty-something man whose Grandma needs the money to buy back her house into the poncy world of Golf and get plenty of hilarious moments. Sandler does an amazing job as usual. I love how he acts. It seems to come very easily and naturally to him. You always need that little bit of weirdness, be it Happy's 'happy place', Chuggs' porcelain hand or the miraculous way in which he wins the main Golfing tournament. Its a hoot from beginning to end and will always be one of my favourite comedys.

This film is very classy and I feel like anyone could watch it and enjoy it, not matter what age. Depp probably does one of the best performances I have ever watched. He has the quirky and occasionally funny demeanor about him, and he matches the role of a pirate perfectly. He was definitely one of the highlights for me. The story is very original and well told, and balances stunningly well represented action sequences with the dialogue and character side of the movie very well. There's plenty of comedy, action and romance for you to get stuck into. Honestly this film caused many a pirate dress-up and rum parties among me and my friends. Its a shame the two following this didn't quite come up to the mark of the Black Pearl.

An absolute classic. I'm just annoyed I waited about 3 years of knowing about it before actually watching it. The movie looks real, none of that special effects CGI'd shoved in.

An absolute classic. I'm just annoyed I waited about 3 years of knowing about it before actually watching it. The movie looks real, none of that special effects CGI'd shoved in.

It all builds up to that incredible and icon ending shot where he finally finds himself released from prison, and you feel a heart warming moment near the end where you realise that not only does Dufrense escape from prison, but still manages to meet up with his friend he spent most of his time in prison with.

This is how cinema should be done. An absolutely epic and life changing movie. Easily deserves its five stars.
