Daniel Day-Lewis puts up a fantastic show in this truly wonderful battle of capitalism vs religion. I loved it all, from the beautiful cinematography of Robert Elswit to the haunting score of Jonny Greenwood and some vibes of Sergio Leone and Stanley Kubrick, all of this put together by Paul Thomas Anderson who is on his way of becoming an all time great. right now tied with No Country for Old Men as my favorite film of 07 and probably of the whole decade.

Amazing...

Daniel Day-Lewis puts up a fantastic show in this truly wonderful battle of capitalism vs religion. Definitely one of the hardest films to rate I've ever seen. The visuals of the director's cut are flat-out amazing, the performances are good, specially by Robert Duvall and the story is good... the problem is that thje film is sometimes too bleak, even for me and I feel with claustrophobia, on the other hand, that's the point, that's the world where the characters are, they're in a world with no soul, with no emotion, with no hope,they're total and completely alone and they realize it. That's the precise feeling the film gives you and that's it's triumph.
Ultimately THX is a film that showed the promise George Lucas had, a promise of a great storyteller and a great filmmaker that sadly was not completely fullfilled, a director that got stuck in a single project (Star Wars), a project, that while it was not bad at all, I'll admit it was a great project, he gives me the feeling he could have done much, much more...

People only know Giant as the last James Dean picture, but is more than that, Giant is a plead for tolerance and equalty that should resonate today, specially for it's accuracy.
The film takes place across 25 years mainly around two characters: Leslie (Elizabeth Taylor as beautiful as ever) and Bit Bennedict (Rock Hudson), who try to keep their marriage afloat despite several bumps on the road, among them, the diferent expectations both have towards their children, a worker who later becomes a tycoon (James Dean) who loves Taylor's characters and envies Hudson's and specially Hudson's sexism and racist view toward the Mexicans. That sexism makes Hudson a very interesting character who chances constantly toward the film, and that makes it a big challenge, but Rock Hudson pulls it off. Elizabeth Taylor, who despite not have a character as deep as Hudson, carries the huge film and does a commendable job. James Dean, despite having a lot less screen time than the other two, shows why he had a huge future, I mean, I'm certain he could have been even the greatest actor ever if he would have stayed away from that car, he makes Jett Rink a destroyed man who, despite achieving all kind of wealth, all kind of power, is miserable, is nothing after not having the only thing he wants, the love of Leslie. He gives a great performance for sure, this film has excellent perforances all around, we even see a glimpse of the excellent actor Dennis Hopper would be, but still, the star of the film, is it's own ambition, this film is truly an epic in it's ideas, a quality several films seems to be lacking more and more.
Definitely one of the best soapy films I've ever seen.
