I've been chronicling my thoughts on digital music online for six years or so, but this is my first ever blog post by that name. Last week, I posted my first ever Wiki, so it must be true--the future must, at long last, finally be here.
I guess one of the main things on my mind is the case on the new 5G iPod. I'm pretty convinced that it's the same as the Nano's, which scratches easily, and is now the subject of a potential class action suit. You may notice that the 5G iPod was not available for sale directly following the product's announcement... my theory is that Apple had a bunch of workers in China stuffing a protective pouch into each 5G iPod box to deflect criticism about scratching.
The scratching is merely (ha) cosmetic unless you use the screen for photos and videos. Everything we carry around with us scratches eventually. Those scratches are a minor annoyance, unless they're on the screen of a video player, in which case they approach "dealbreaker" status.
I have seen scratches on the new 5G iPod and they seem similar to the ones on my Nano. Time will tell whether other new iPod owners have problems on the magnitude of the ones they have with the Nano. If that's the case, it'll make the Nano blowback look like a PR coupe (the 5G iPod is more expensive, and offers video... both things that could amplify complaints about scratching). Selah.
