I found this on the internet not too long ago...This isn't looking good.

President Bush made a controversial appointment earlier today that will probably fly under the radar for most political junkies. Jack Thompson, the noted video game anti-violence advocate from Florida, could replace current ESRB head Patricia Vance as early as October if congressional hearings approving the president's nomination go smoothly.

"I stand by Jacky," Bush told reporters at a press conference where the appointment was announced. "He's been doin' a heck of a job, and I think that all the good work he's done for video games and the kids who play those durn things makes him a true patriotic American. If the lesson of September the 11th has taught us anything, it's to never let our guard down, and Jack has never let his guard down dealing with video games. We need to let the man continue doing what he's already been doing because of his sense of duty and honor, only in an official role."

Gamers who follow politics are taking issue with Bush's characterization of Jack Thompson, a man who is known as public enemy number one in most video gaming circles. Thompson first rose to notoriety in the gaming community in 2003 when he attempted to sue Take-Two Interactive, publishers of the Grand Theft Auto series, for the alleged role their game played in a homicide committed by two teenage brothers who claimed they were inspired by the game.

Since then Thompson has embarked on a one-man crusade to singlehandedly remove all violence, pornography, questionable content, and anything else that would make a video game fun, all in the name of protecting the children who play these Mature and Adult Only titles. Titles that would only be available to adults if parents would do their job. Thompson has continued his crusade despite the fact that most of the children he's crusading for think he's an ass.

Conservatives are expected to provide heavy opposition to the appointment when it reaches congress. Republicans up for re-election in 2008 have already been attempting to distance themselves from the sinking ship that is the Bush administration, and pundits agree that any Republican who supports President Bush appointing a crazy lawyer who hates video games as the head of the video game rating board will be seriously risking their seat in congress come election time.

Democrats are objecting on the grounds that the appointment was the president's idea, and the only coherent policy they've been able to come up with in the past year is to oppose anything the president does. Gamers have already called for democrats to attempt to impeach Thompson if his appointment does go through, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has already gone on record stating that impeachment will not be on the table no matter how badly Thompson screws things up in his leadership role.

There is also a question as to whether or not the president actually has the authority to appoint someone to head the ESRB. The organization was approved by congress in 1994, but since then has operated independent of government interference. The president's attempt to appoint Thompson is especially odd considering it would be the first time a president attempted to interfere with the ESRB.

Joe Lieberman, one of the senators who led hearings in the early 90s that led to the creation of the ESRB, has flatly stated that the president doesn't have the authority to make this appointment. The Bush administration, however, claims executive privilege and plans to go ahead with the appointment. Current ESRB president Patricia Vance has threatened to take legal action if she is replaced.

Gaming action groups are forming all over the Internet to combat this appointment. Interested gamers are encouraged to send a mail to their local congressman stating emphatically that a vote for Thompson means a vote lost at the polls next November

I really don't like to give this guy any attention because he doesn't deserve it, but I figured that this could be bad news....

This is obviously satire. The ESRB is not an arm of the government; it's a self-regulatory non-profit organization over which the White House has no control. The article also has Bush call him "Jacky" and has him say that he's "been doin' a heck of a job", which is fairly evidently a parody of Bush's actual statement that "Brownie" (ex-FEMA head Michael Brown) was "doin' a heck of a job".

You can rest easy; this ain't true.

This is bad...

dailygaming.net makes bogus articles about games. That what they do. It's what they call satire. Think about it, why would Bush issue a statement with such hillby-like terms like "heck" and "durn"?
Posted Oct 4, 2007 2:01 am PT
Yeah it's hard to believe, but if it end up being true, then that gives me another reason to hate Bush.
Posted Oct 4, 2007 3:45 am PT
What!? This can't be. Does Bush hate video games too? *reads dialogue of Bush* Hold on. Something doesn't feel right. Durn, Semptember the 11th, Jacky? I know Bush is from Texas and has been known to show his mannerisms, but this feels like crap. I'm with Benny, who I read as I was typing this .

no offense but that site looks like it needs to gain more popularity before I can trust its news. And I pray this news never comes true
Posted Oct 4, 2007 5:06 am PT
Lol, that is funny. And yeah, its meant to be fake. Ever heard of satire? ERSB = Private. USA government = public. And stupid.
Posted Oct 4, 2007 5:28 am PT
Hell no... GOD DAMN! HELL NOOO! Of course if its true... and it will be good if it isn't...
Posted Oct 4, 2007 6:05 am PT
First off, No

Second Off, How can President Bush appoint someone to a private company? He can only apppoint judges, ambassadors, and cabinet members

Third, Bush would not say "durn"

Fourth, It would be Hilary Clinton or Joe Lieberman who would push for this, Bush doesn't care about video games

Fifth, Republicans, besides Jack Thompson, are cool people and wouldn't try to pull this

Six, the site is a joke

Seven, If people go fooled, I am sorry, but they need to read a newspaper

Eight, Nice piece of satire

Doug: LOL  I love it my friend.

JT will not be head of ESRB.
Posted Oct 4, 2007 8:54 am PT
Lol, yeah, read the paper people!
Posted Oct 4, 2007 9:26 am PT
Yea right... I guess dailygaming.net are as left as the Clintons. Well, whatever. Political satire and video games would make for a good read anyways. Daliygaming.net must've been bored or something. :/
Posted Oct 4, 2007 10:37 am PT
Ha, I loled.
Posted Oct 4, 2007 10:58 am PT
Oh...I never heard of dailygaming...I just found it...Also, Knight_of_Malta...I loled the first time I saw it as well....
Posted Oct 4, 2007 1:06 pm PT
Yeah, I might have believe that, but then again the writing for Bush was horrible!
Posted Oct 4, 2007 1:26 pm PT
I hate Bush even more now.
Posted Oct 4, 2007 2:06 pm PT
Wait, I c wut u did thar, and I walked right into it. >_>
Posted Oct 4, 2007 2:10 pm PT
This is going to be one of the few things of what I frown upon at Bush (Amnesty Bill makes me angry > oh well) Seriously, if Jacky was the head of the ESRB he make every possible M game AO. But of couse its fake
Posted Oct 4, 2007 2:15 pm PT
I'm pretty sure I'll kill myself if that happens.
Posted Oct 4, 2007 4:44 pm PT
What! It was bad enough with just him but now the president of the United States is behind him?Oh no this could be really bad for video games.
Posted Oct 4, 2007 6:45 pm PT
This made my day
Posted Oct 4, 2007 6:46 pm PT
and luckily nobody in Israel care about ESRB (barely know what is it...)
Posted Oct 5, 2007 3:38 am PT
Good job the ESRB doesn't effect the place where i live.
Posted Oct 5, 2007 5:16 am PT
I would be outraged if this were true. Jack is on the verge of getting his attorney's license revoked anyways. So, I think JT's going to ease up on the video game hating for a bit. I'm not worried.
Posted Oct 5, 2007 8:00 am PT
That article seemed unrealistic, but if it IS true, someone shoot me at point blank range.
Posted Oct 5, 2007 12:37 pm PT
I think that Blackjack Thompson is a shill, most likely he is being paid by industry insiders and big-dollar executives in the video game industry to create fake controversy in order to boost game sales and inch the videogame industry toward social legitimacy. Either that, or he slept his way to the top of a failing food chain. Not sure...
Posted Oct 5, 2007 8:50 pm PT
I guess I would be concerned if I could see it happening. But I just can't imagine it. I'll worry about it when the time comes. If it comes.
Posted Oct 6, 2007 11:17 am PT
lol, it had me until President Bush called him "Jacky". Anyway, if such a terrible event such as this ever came to pass, oh god, I'd expect raids on people's homes to remove violent video games within a day of his induction to the big job.
Posted Oct 14, 2007 5:49 am PT
This will never happen.
Posted Oct 14, 2007 1:26 pm PT
I recommend a Wii Earth. It's just, I happened to get a lemon with my console.
Posted Nov 7, 2007 4:12 pm PT
THIS IS A TOTAL OUTRAGE! (if true) I have to say that if Jack hates video games so much, he should move to the Arctic, or somewhere without games! REPENT! REPENT! Okay, done.
Posted Nov 8, 2007 12:03 pm PT
this can not happen!! if hes the president of esrp were gona end up with games like grand theft lego
!!!!!!
Posted Nov 12, 2007 8:15 am PT
Tis a fake.
Posted Nov 23, 2007 6:44 pm PT
Looks fake to me, but if it were real...
