GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con

If you have been watching then you likely have seen numerous "main stream" media articles about the world of gaming media and frankly some of the darker close connections between the media and the industry they cover. Still it is a bit sad when that darkness comes home to roost in your favorite hang out. Perhaps it was inevitable, perhaps it didn't have to be, but there you have it.

I know, we haven't heard the whole story. Frankly I doubt we'll ever get all the details due to contracts or just the usual corporate stuff that occurs. Yet I've "heard" enough to make me think that in fact Jeff was let go for reasons other than simple editorial disagreements. I can't imagine an editorial staff that doesn't have such disagreements. While such disagreements may be there, if the trigger for action is the almighty dollar then that is the reason plain and simple. Don't kid yourself.

I'm not sure what my plans are but I'm not sure I'll want to stick around if this place doesn't feel ... right. Right now some things feel very wrong here at Gamespot.

I care too much about the staff and community to leave

It will be hard, but Gamespot will regain it's credibility

I wish you luck with your tough decision

Im sorry such decisions even have to be made.
Wouldnt it be great if none of this even happened?

DouglasBuffone - don't get your hopes up. GS will only recover credibility if people are stupid. I mean...they fired a person for review a game correctly? Just because of money? Something is not right...

I'm smart enough to know it's all a rumor about Eidos' involvment. They'd be powerful enough to buy a good review in the first place if they really were powerful enough to get a reviewer fired after-the-fact over a bad review.

And now the mods and staff know something is wrong too.

These are dark times indeed. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best. Good luck, man.

I hope that this community can somehow stay alive...

Things aren't right, but they can change, and they're not the only things that matter. I hope you stay.

I'm not sure how I feel either...I've stuck around for so long now, but as it is right now...I wouldn't be able to defend the company when a big review doesn't score "properly" and just say "hell no, there's no influence there" and believe it. If I can't do my job whole-heartedly, I'm not sure I should be doing it.
Had this been any "regular" editor I wouldn't be having these thoughts, but when it's the editor-in-chief...Well, that doesn't speak so kindly to the organization.
Unfortunately, I'm right with you on this one...

We all know money is the problem, but we shift the blame to each others' greed or lack thereof.
