Chapter 2 of 6
Dustin's mind raced as the events of what happened on the day he was attacked replayed in his head. He was first being attacked and then the next thing he remembers he was in his room.
"I could've been the one who died, not Ricky. What happened to me? I just don't understand." Dustin walked to the field, and sat on the bench. He played the attack in his mind over and over.
"What are you doing here?" a voice called out from behind him. Dustin jumped, in surprise. He turned to find the principal looking at him.
"I came here to sit. Why? Is there a problem?"
"You may have been innocent of those fires, but don't expect this change of demeanor is going to make me change the way I feel about you. I remember what the psychiatrist called you."
"Are you always so paranoid? Look you know I am tired of this abuse. When I came here, I was always the one being attacked, and framed, and you didn't do a darn thing. For once in your miserable life, just leave me alone!" Dustin yelled as he walked off angrily. The principal scowled and said only three words.
"Wait till Friday."
Dustin as expected was left alone until Wednesday when, Dustin got permission to go into town. Dustin walked in a dark alley when two thugs came out from behind him.
"Look what we have here, a rich spoiled brat," the tougher looking thug said. Dustin stopped in his tracks and sighed.
"Just because I go to Lancaster's private school, doesn't mean I'm rich and spoiled. It just means my parents are the ones who are rich and spoiled."
"You hear that Mark, sounds to me we like we can kidnap him and ask for millions in ransom." The other thug replied.
"My parents would rather deny my existence then help me."
"Well, then today's not your lucky day." Mark said. Mark pulled out a six inch knife out of his pocket. Dustin did not look impressed but his fear grew gradually, as the intentions of the thugs became apparent. Mark played with his knife to show he was no ordinary thug with a weapon.
"You know I don't understand, if your so skilled with the knife why aren't in the military or something?" Dustin asked hoping he can stall the thugs.
"I was in the military, but my bloodlust grew too strong, so they discharged me, dishonorably too."
"So you resorted to picking on the weak to feed your habit?" Dustin asked gaining courage. Mark growled and the next thing Dustin remembers is Mark charging at him. At that moment Dustin could only think of escape, and before he knew it he found himself on the other side of the alley facing away from them.
"Where'd the kid go, wait there he is!" The other thug yelled. Dustin spun around and saw both thugs charging at him.
"Why do I have a knack of finding trouble?" Dustin asked himself as he sighed. An idea popped through his head. Whenever he is faced with fear, and escape crosses his mind, he always averts disaster. "Hold on this happened on that field with Billy and Ricky, except I appeared in my room." Dustin didn't notice at first that Mark the thug had thrown his knife at him.
Dustin looked up and noticed the six inch knife speeding towards him like an arrow. Dustin thought of escape but the knife grazed his arm. Dustin howled in pain and anger. At that time a police car flashed its lights, and a police officer came out of the police car. Dustin then disappeared from the scene and reappeared in a bathroom.
"What, how'd I get here?" Dustin asked himself. Dustin shrugged it off and cleaned the wound and wrapped a towel around his arm. He opened the bathroom door and to his surprise and relief he was at school. He quickly walked to his room and opened it.
"Tomorrow I need to get a handle on what's happening to me." Dustin fell asleep and woke up in the morning. He looked at his wound and it seemed to be healing quite nicely. He got up and he opened the door to see his principal walking through the halls, coming towards him.
"Dustin, what a wonderful surprise, I didn't know you returned." The principal asked with a weird look on his face.
"It's like I never left," Dustin replied. The principal then walked off looking back with an even weirder look. Dustin then headed outside. He wasn't allowed to leave the campus without permission, so he walked in circles trying to figure out what happened last night. He walked and tripped over a trap door, opened it and walked down the steps to find a gym sized room.
"It looks like I found my training place." Dustin said smirking.
Dustin then tried to appear across the room without walking to the other side but with no such luck. "I don't understand, why can't I do it?" Dustin noticed a book lying in the dirt. He picked it up and dusted it off.
"All Types of Fictional Teleportation Techniques." Dustin read aloud. "This all seems too convenient."
"Actually it isn't," A voice called out. An old man appeared from the shadows. "I have been watching, and following you since I got my vision."
"Vision?" What do you mean?" Dustin asked. The man smiled and walked closer to him.
"I'm like you, I too have a power, it may not be the ability to teleport from one place to another, but I'd certainly call it what I have an ability."
"Who are you?" Dustin asked. The man briefly smiled.
"I want to help you, teach you to use your power." The man replied.
"Why?" Dustin asked nervously.
"Because with my help you'll become the greatest hero, this earth has ever heard of. I want you to go back to your room and read that book, and tomorrow I want you to return here, so we can begin your training."
"Well that sounds good to me," Dustin lied to the man. Dustin then left the training room and walked back to his room. He decided to read the book, and immediately became fascinated by what he could possibly do with his power.
"Blinking is a form of physical teleportation, where a person can go from one place to another in a blink of an eye. Orbing as seen on the series Charmed is a form of physical teleportation where the person orbing disappears and reappears in a bunch of bluish orbs of light."
Dustin continued to read and then he fell asleep. An alarm went off and Dustin woke abruptly. He yawned and turned it off.
"Is it Friday already?"
