Chapter 6 of 6
Once Dustin got to New York City, it was heaven. Dustin had a nice job of delivering expensive items, where he'd get a huge tip for being early with deliveries. Dustin soon had enough money to own a large apartment. Dustin was enjoying his new life.
The phone rang, and Dustin jumped in his seat. Dustin looked at the caller id and two words frightened him "The Boss"
"Hello, hey Frieda how's it going?" Dustin said nervously.
"I don't have time to chat; I'm here in concern to your resume. I did a little digging, and you never finished high school." Dustin started to sweat as if he thought his boss was right in front of him.
"I- uh, hmm, where did you hear that" Dustin gulped.
"Your parents, my young friend" Frieda said.
"And?" Dustin said rather rudely. Of course after saying it he regretted it.
"AND! AND? I'll tell you AND. AND YOU'RE FIRED!" Frieda yelled through the receiver. Dustin slumped in his chair and felt defeated.
"It's almost Christmas, and I lost my job."
'Don't fret, at least you have a baby sister' a voice came over Dustin. Dustin was nervous.
"A sister? Where'd that come from? The last thing we need is my mother getting pregnant again. Wasn't I enough?" Dustin dismissed the thought and looked in the newspaper. He found a small job at a supermarket where he restocked the shelves.
"This is annoying, my abilities really suck sometimes, and of course I suppose it was my fault for showing them my power?" Dustin said mostly to himself one day at the supermarket. A charismatic teenager who was listening by walked up.
"You do know the path to being a hero, is never so easily paved. There are obstacles in our path, ones we need to overcome."
"I'm sorry what?" Dustin said not paying attention.
"I understand your frustrations, but blaming your parents for their past errors is not helping you let go. I mean they did tell the truth when they told Frieda you didn't finish school."
"What? How'd you know about my parents?" Dustin asked becoming aware of the young man.
"Oh I'm sorry, you see, like you I have this ability." The teenager said.
"Great another, guru with a power," Dustin snidely remarked. The teenager did not seem affected by the comment at all.
"Well, you have business to attend to, so I'll leave you to your thoughts." The teenager said suspiciously.
A week later Dustin was digging through his pockets for some change when he grabbed what felt like a business card.
"Are you a hero? Do have hero like qualities, if this is true, then maybe you can be part of the Heroes League. For more information, feel free to think?" Dustin said out loud, Dustin sighed and tossed the card aside.
Months past and Dustin was graced again with another job delivering items. Again he had time to use his ability, and perfect it. Dustin was done delivering an important item (pizza) and sat down on his couch when the phone rang.
"Yellow, Dustin speaking," Dustin said jokingly not knowing who was on the other line.
"Dustin could you please come to our California home?" Dustin's mother asked.
"Oh, it's you," Dustin said disappointed. "California, how am I supposed to get to California, when I live in NYC?"
"Don't be an idiot, use your ability. You were born with them for a reason." Dustin's mother said snidely as she hung up the phone.
"Rats and I was so hoping that would work. Wait, born with for a reason? Interesting, so maybe there's more to it than I realized." Dustin sighed and orbed to California.
"Oh snap, I forgot where they lived. Why am I doing this anyway?" Dustin said when he orbed to California. He walked a few minutes trying to remember California.
"Did they even have a house in California? It's been so long, oh wait a minute, that mansion on that one hill could be my parents." Dustin blinked to the mansion and sure enough it had his family crest on a flag that was planted in the ground. Dustin walked up and was about to knock until he heard scuffling inside.
"I said SHUT UP! Listen here, you know that brat kid of yours will probably never come. I'm starting to think you lied to us when you said you gave him the key-code to the safe." A man said loud.
"Okay we lied, Dustin (our son), Adam Sandler and Jennifer Love Hewitt have the key code but Dustin is the only one we could've asked to come over in such short notice," Mr. Rutger said laughing. Dustin started to laugh too until he heard a smack.
"Harold!" Mrs. Rutger yelled. Dustin blinked inside behind the man.
"I did not think this through," Dustin said. The burglar turned around, and pointed the gun at Dustin
"Who are you?" The burglar said with an evil look.
"I am the man who has the key to the safe."
"Well open it!" The burglar said still pointing the gun at Dustin. It was at that moment Dustin found a serious flaw in the burglar's demeanor. The burglar was beyond stupid. The burglar was almost too comical. A thought flashed through Dustin's head.
"Of course I'll need pancakes," Dustin said almost smiling.
"Why?" The burglar asked pointing the gun down in confusion.
"Well it's a process, eating pancakes, helps me remember the key code, oh and a nice glass of milk from a goat." Dustin said deviously. It was at that moment Dustin glanced at his mother who shook her head.
'Wait, this couldn't be a one man job, my parents could've easily dealt with an idiot.' Dustin thought to himself. He then heard a gun fire and Dustin blinked away as fast as he could.
"That blasted fool got away, and such an idiot you are Fred," a second man said.
"I'm sorry, I failed you Master," Fred said sadly.
"So, you never did give your son the key code, did you?" the second man asked.
"Well we did, but that was so long ago, I doubt he remembers." Mr. Rutger said. Dustin was in the next room, trying to come up with a plan. But he had to act fast.
"Well you better choose who's going to die, is it the mother, or is it the father?" The man said almost like he knew Dustin was still close by. Dustin thought about a way to take them down, but even with his powers he felt defeated.
'Well maybe if I keep punching them and teleporting, I'll throw them off. No that's stupid, he might shoot them. I suppose I could-' Dustin started. Dustin smiled and teleported behind the man who had shot at him. He grabbed him and teleported him to the ocean. He teleported back, and saw that the idiot person was close to shooting them. At that moment police sirens came flooding near them.
"We know you have the Rutgers hostage, come out with your hands up." A police officer said through the window. At that moment Dustin leaped and grabbed both his parents and orbed them upstairs. As he did that he heard a bunch of shots going off. When they materialized, Dustin quickly untied his parents. Dustin then felt a sharp pain. He looked down and saw that he was bleeding, badly.
"Harold, get a glass of water, it may be Dustin's only hope." Mrs. Rutger said. Mr. Rutger quickly went off and returned with the glass. Mrs. Rutger grabbed the glass and her hands started to glow, the water then turned into a glowing liquid, it stopped glowing and dark blue water replaced the glowing liquid. Dustin grabbed it instinctively and drank it. The pain stopped and Dustin felt better.
"You better explain everything," Dustin said weakly. Dustin fell unconscious, and woke up hours later. He slowly got up and saw his parents staring at him.
"Harold I think you should start," Mrs. Rutger said. Mr. Rutger looked at Dustin and smiled.
"We both have abilities, your mother and I. She can change any liquid to any other liquid she chooses. I have the ability to see things, which normal people can't see. I've been known to see things that occurred in the past, present, and future. Of course it only happens when I touch something or someone."
"That liquid, what was it?" Dustin asked his mother.
"It was water we found on one of our trips, and it seemed to heal people. I being able to change liquids figured out how to make it."
"And you were being snooty and rich?" Dustin asked suspiciously.
"Ha, sorry about that, but being rich does change a person. Well as a joke I touched a lottery ticket and that alone helped us become millionaires. The stock exchange, anything that helped us make money, we somehow made it because of my ability. This was when we were younger though a few years before you were born. After becoming billionaires we lost sight of what was important, and felt like we owned the world. It just grew from there until-," Mr. Rutger said.
"Yes I'm aware I have a sister," Dustin said.
"What! But how?" Mrs. Rutger asked.
"A voice told me, and just out of curiosity you were in New York City at the time of her birth weren't you?"
"Yes, we were, sorry but until Jenna was born we were still a little snooty, after her birth though we eventually became respected, rich people." Mr. Rutger replied.
"Jenna? So then sending me to that horrid school?" Dustin asked.
"Well, I'd like to take credit for that, but we had no idea your powers would become active then. Hell we didn't even know you could have powers. It was always a possibility, that we ignored, but of course in hindsight maybe sending you to that school was just what we needed to do." Mr. Rutger answered. Dustin scowled as he got up and stretched.
"Well as much as I would love to stay and chat, I must being going."
"Stop, Dustin, there's something we'd like to give you. You don't have to accept it but hopefully you can forgive us for our bad parenting in regards to you." Mrs. Rutger said quickly, she pulled out a box out of the drawer and handed it to Dustin.
"Well, as long as I don't hear that Jenna got transferred to that awful school or anything like that, I suppose I can forgive you for now." Dustin said right before he orbed to his apartment. Dustin set the box on his desk and went to sleep.
A year passed and Dustin was still delivering pizza. He had forgotten about the box, and was happy with his life. One day Dustin was walking home when he heard a screaming, he ran and saw a man hassling a young woman. Dustin blinked and knocked the man out. He looked around and the woman disappeared. He sighed and went to his apartment. He sat down on the couch and looked over and noticed the box his mother gave him. He walked over and looked at it. It was such a beautiful box. It had four small legs and had a red and gold coloring.
"You know now that I have had time to look at it, it looks like an expensive jewelry box." Dustin opened it and saw four vials of the dark blue water that healed him. And what appeared to be a massive golden key. He also noticed a note inside.
"Dear Dustin, when you open this, you will notice four vials of blue dark water, and a massive key. The four vials are for future use; maybe someone you come in contact with later will be able to study it. Also is the key to our New York mansion, yes I know it's our biggest mansion but you certainly deserve it. We hope that you won't end up like us, so try not to let worldly things keep you from achieving your goals. Sincerely and with love, your Mother and Father."
Dustin shrugged it off, it's not like he needed the mansion, but perhaps he would use it later. At that moment something hit Dustin in the face. He grabbed it and it was the business card he remembered seeing a year or so ago.
"Feel free to think," Dustin repeated over and over. He then remembered that the person at the supermarket had a power. Was this card from that one person who had given him advice? He closed his eyes and started thinking.
"Right on time, as I can see." A person said causing Dustin to open his eyes and find himself in a park with a young man sitting on a bench.
"Did I teleport or is this you?" Dustin asked.
"This is your doing, so is there something you want to ask?"
"The Heroes League, what is it?" Dustin asked.
"There are people out there that use their power for evil, and hurt the people who don't have abilities. I formed the Heroes League, to help protect the people from those dangerous criminals." The young man replied.
"Well, if it's not too much to ask, I would like to join, I feel like I'm destined to help the world, to be a hero." Dustin said causing the young man to smile.
"I would love for you to join, but as of right now I only ask that you come up with a name for yourself. A codename if you will." The young man responded.
"There's one thing that's still on my mind, are you the voice that told me that I had a sister?" Dustin asked.
"Yes I am, I'm sorry if I scared you, but I knew once that I saw you, that I could help you. I became aware of your dislike for your parents, and I apologize for that. After I saw your parents in December, and well I become aware of the birth of your younger sister."
"It's okay, I understand, just like someone once told me, forgiveness is important. Actually I should be the one to apologize for treating you badly at the supermarket. Ha, I just realized I don't know your name," Dustin said starting to laugh.
"You can call me Mr. Fix-it, and the apology wasn't necessary but thank you." the young man said. Dustin started to smile.
"I think I know what my codename will be," Dustin said.
"Really, and what will you call yourself from this day forward?" Mr. Fix-it asked.
"I will be known as Master Teleportus." Dustin replied
"Ah, a good name, I welcome you to the Heroes League," Mr. Fix-it said shaking Dustin's hand. "And what's this I hear about you owning a mansion?" Dustin and Mr. Fix-it started to laugh.
Chapter 5 of 6
"Light show, what are you talking about?" Dustin asked in total confusion. John rose his hand and shot of a red light towards Dustin. Dustin horrified blinked out of the way. When Dustin blinked in view the red light exploded like a firework.
"Come out, come out wherever you are!" John yelled through the jungle. Dustin blinked all the way back to Malik's hut and found him inside.
"Malik I can't stay here." Dustin said in an alarmed voice.
"Why not? Dustin what's wrong?" Malik asked getting up.
"Um, Billy that guy I told you about," Dustin started.
"The guy who killed Ricky?" Malik asked.
"Yes, um, he's here, now normally I wouldn't be afraid of him, but um, apparently he has a power too."
"What kind of power?" Malik asked.
"He has a firework power, or something like that, I have to find a way to get to America," Dustin replied.
"I know you've had horrible luck but maybe if you teleport it'll be easier," Malik said.
"Right, if Billy, or John asks I wasn't here nor do I know you." Dustin responded.
"John?" Malik asked.
"I don't know, it's what he calls himself, John Booster, I have an idea, I hope to see you sometime in the future," Dustin replied.
Malik nodded and Dustin blinked out of the hut.
"Come on Dustin, Four and a half years I was in prison, for a murder I wouldn't have committed had it not been for you!" John yelled.
"Actually it was your fault," Dustin said blinking in front of John. John launched a blue light at Dustin but Dustin blinked out of the way.
"It took me three years to figure out what happened. You teleported out of the way, while Ricky took the force of the hit!"
"It's not my fault John, you should've left me alone, Ricky would still be alive had you not had crazy ideas and try to kill me. I thought you had fourteen years, what happened?" Dustin said dodging a yellow light.
"It was July 4th 2002; all those fireworks filled me with joy, and freedom. I raised my hands and a couple of lights launched from my hands and they exploded in the air like fireworks. It took me till July 4th 2003 to put it all together. After that night, I escaped easily and fled the country. Luckily some of my friends recently erased me from existence. Billy is dead, but John Booster was born." Dustin dodged a red and blue light.
"Really? That's so wonderful for you, I'm so proud that the person who tried to kill me, was also blessed with a power." As Dustin said that he narrowly dodged five lights that exploded right near him.
"Tried to kill you? I would've killed you, had you not teleported out of the way!" John Booster yelled.
"You would've been charged with my murder, instead." Dustin replied.
"Yes but Ricky would've been alive." John yelled causing a storm of guilt to eat at Dustin.
"A life in prison is that the life you envisioned for Ricky? It's almost like those rumors were true, you were tired of him so you killed him!" Dustin yelled in moderate pain.
"LIAR!" A large blue light launched itself from John's two hands, and as it approached Dustin, he orbed out of the way. Dustin found himself near the ocean. Tears fell from Dustin's eyes as he fell onto his knees. It was the first time, he actually cried for someone who had been mean to him.
"Ricky was just a misguided soul, that should never have been with Billy or John or whatever the hell he's calling himself these days," Dustin said out loud to himself.
Suddenly without warning an object hit Dustin in the head. Dustin picked it up and read the title "All Types of Fictional Teleportation Techniques." Dustin smiled and opened it.
"There's one chapter I forgot to read." Dustin opened the book and flipped itto the end. Dustin gasped, the last chapter was hand written specifically addressed to him.
"Dustin, I predicted my death, and so I wanted to tell you something. A path to a hero is never easy. Heroes are tempted everyday and yet a hero overcomes his disadvantages and weaknesses to strive for a better life. What I'm saying, Dustin, is you need to forgive yourself for the death of your classmate. Until you forgive yourself for the circumstances of when you first teleported, you will surely be held back." Dustin closed the book and looked down.
"Dustin I know you're there somewhere!" John yelled through the jungle. Tears fell from Dustin's eyes.
"Ricky, I'm sorry you died because of me. Sometimes I wish I never teleported at that time. But now I know why, in your honor I will dedicate myself to helping those less fortunate." Dustin started to laugh as the guilt started to fade away. Dustin heard a noise and looked behind him. A green light headed towards him, Dustin fell back and orbed out of the way.
"Hey wake up pal, there's no sleeping here." A voice called out to Dustin. When Dustin got up he saw a police officer standing over him.
"Where am I?" Dustin asked confused.
"You're in New York City, welcome, now get going." The police officer said rudely.
"I'm going, wait, New York City?" Dustin said to himself.![]()
I am seriously fed up up with when I try and answer someone and I'm still typing, my browser stops me from typing and goes back a page, especially if I had a long message too
And do you want to know why i'm
about it? Because IT DELETE'S MY MESSAGE FOR GOOD!!! And there's NO WAY to get it back.
I swear all the goodmessages/forum posts I had just deleted because my browser wanted to go back without provacation.
I do know that the BACKSPACE button does that (whenever you don't do anything and you press it (I think)), but it does it when I'm typing and I don't press the BACKSPACE button at all
I'm just really getting tired of it, it discourages me from posting on the forums
