At one time EA thought they had enough big guns under their belt to try and take on Nintendo and Sega. They released the short lived console 3DO (which I owned btw) Problem was...They didnt have enough big names to keep em afloat, plus the price of the system itself was unheard of at the time so it collapsed. $500-$600 at a time when you could get a SNES for $150 or a Genesis for $125 was poor timing.

Now imagine a world where EA owns the top 20 titles that gross more than any of the competitors single big name titles, and they want to try their hand at the console world again. Think it cant happen? Thats what Nintendo and Sega said back before EA even had huge names. I think its a possibility and thats why they keep taking over companies. Agree or disagree you cant deny facts.

The chokehold they have on the football front was the first tell-tale signs of something bigger to come. Madden is the highest selling sports franchise in gaming history, and has enormous numbers every season. (Lets not forget Madden also appeared on 3DO) By signing an exclusive deal with the NFL they totally eliminated all competitors.

The Take Two deal might be more strategic positioning than one might think at first glance. Grand Theft Auto raised the bar and set a new standard in free roaming 3D gaming (and even coined the term "sandbox game") If EA could get their hands on the highest selling game of that genre they could be in a great position to bring it to a new console and leave competitors with empty hands.

Theoretically of course! Imagine if Microsoft bought Zelda from Nintendo, than took away Nintendos rights to publish anything Zelda. Anybody who buys Nintendo stuff just for Zelda based games would most likely be tempted to go with Microsoft next time around.

If a new console was coming out with graphics that meet and beat Sony, Microsoft, and well Nintendo. It cost around the same price, but also it was the only place you could play big names like Madden NFL football games, GTA, Half Life, Need for Speed, James Bond games, FIFA, Nascar, and so on and so fourth...I bet a large portion of gamers would jump ship and head the way of the new.

Dont leave me negative feedback, just leave me comments and tell me your feedback on the situation and my take on EA monopolizing gaming as we know it.

I agree with you. Theres one thing no one can deny and thats the empire that EA has built for itself. And the way the business world works, I seriously wouldn't be that shocked if Zelda suddenly jumped platforms. Simply take Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy 13 for instance...neither of which are EA. EA owns Ubisoft stocks already...and Take Two is simply another company that EA has set its eyes on. So, as I said, I do believe you hit everything on the mark.

EA is very conceited

EA IS LIKE THE UNSTOPPABLE BLOB! AT THE SAME TIME IF YOU STOP BUYING EAS GAMES THEN PRETTY MUCH WE STOP BUYING ALMOST EVERYTHING. THEY ARE MONSTERS.

The offer has expired.

EA has good brandnames under their belt, but they lack good quality. I care more about quality, and less about brandnames. BioWare has a good brandname, but if EA makes them create a new Dragon Age sequel every year, then quality will be sacrificed in the proccess due to short production times, and in that case I won't care about BioWare's brandname any longer.

EA is turning into the Pre-1980 Soviet hockey team of gaming. They're becoming too big for the industry's good.

Oh and I know your talking about their games but someone would of brought this up.
Posted Aug 20, 2008 6:22 pm PT
Ah, thats right. Kikook has a point about that. But didn't Take Two invite EA to one of their meetings, and EA accepted. I read that somewhere here on the site. Still dangerous I think...

I think the EA/TakeTwo deal is inevitable. Not necessarily a bad thing though, it seems that they've actually been giving more free reign to developers most especially with the EA partners scheme. I think that John Ricticello has turned the company around in a postitive way.

what the hell. who gave us negative points. Man if someone is going to come in here and give negative points on a blog then that individual sucks. Also this is detroit hardcores blog so if anyone should give thumbs up or down its him. Damn I cant stand people some time. Garuntee whoever it is lacks the spine to come forward.

I was wondering that myself lol. I didn't think I wrote anything bad, and someone gave me a negative. I guess they just disagreed with me. Sigh. I hate negative points...

Lol very true.

I have a good Idea of who it is, that individual needs to stop messing around before they gets hurt.
Posted Aug 23, 2008 2:37 pm PT
Yo detroit hardcore. What do you think we should do about ea. Is there anything we can do. I tried to start a petition but when push came to shove people backed out at the last minute. I wouldnt mind if they owned everything if the product they put out was good. The problem is that all the games are pretty much the same. I want a new football franchise game. The deal they have with the nfl is complete bull crap brother. I am sick of madden. Same thing every year.

You see the problem with dealing with big business titans like EA is...people have lost the ability and tenacity to stick together. Did you know the Boston tea party happened over a 2% increase on the tax of tea?

What happened to people bonding together like that? People would just rather deal with the change than take the action needed to prevent it. Take gas prices for instance...if you could convince people to not buy gas or work or do anything for a week...gas would drop to pennies on the dollar!

Unfortunately you cant get through to some people, and theyd just say "I dont care, im gonna do what I want." And thats the problem...if the NFL knew people were seriously gonna abandoned Madden because of the monopoly EA has on football games...they would breach contract and allow Sega 2K, and others to start making games competitive again.

Its the people that bend over and take it from EA that cause people like us to suffer...so to answer you combatsoldier....Teach people not to be mindless drones and to stand up for what they believe in...thats the only solution

Teaching people how not to be mindless drones is like trying to teach the mute how to talk.

I swear, some people are born with it in their genes.
Posted Aug 25, 2008 2:09 pm PT
True, But your not born that way your taught it. To the Tea party remark, Yes they did for 2 percent, But you have to remember that was a lot of money back then.
Posted Aug 27, 2008 6:22 pm PT
2% isnt that much at all kikook...but think about it this way in a modern sense...When I started driving gas was $1.12....now gas is like $4.85 by me....Thats like 375% increase...you dont see a problem with that!? you cant be serious! Is 375% not alot these days?
