As you could probably tell from the title, this is my first attempt at writing a blog. I don't really know what to do but I suppose I will start off with a little about myself. I am in my last year of college and work an incredibly boring internship at an accounting firm where I often have little to do but surf the web. After years of coming to the GS website, I decided to finally create an account. It's not much now but it will get there.
I think the best way to understand another gamer is to talk about their favorite games. I have been playing videogames for almost 16 years so I have quite a few favorites. I will share a few and perhaps it will offer some insight into my personality.
In no particular order:
Knights of the Old Republic- One of the greatest stories ever told in a game. This game had plenty of memorable characters and a plot twist that would put Empire Strikes Back and most soap operas to shame. The combat system in Knights was not quite turn-based and not quite real-time and was incredibly exciting. The sequel was much buggier but still enjoyable. I (im)patiently await KOTOR3
Ocarina of Time-What elsecan be said about this classic Zelda game. The most beautiful environments ever rendered at that point in time have left a lasting impression on me. Riding Eponathrough the fields of Hyrule with the trusty Master Sword at your side really made you feel like you were'the' Hero of Time.
Jade Empire- Thank God for the drought of decent 360 games this summer because it allowed me to discover this Xbox gem. Classic Bioware goodness abounds in this title where the story, gameplay and graphics raise the bar on what I expect from future RPGs. The combat system seems very simplistic at first, but when your switching styles trying to turn your opponent into a fountain of blood via a harmonic combo, you will swear it is perfect.
Tecmo Super Bowl- I believe this game to be the greatest sports game of all time. God knows how many countless hours I have spent zig-zagging up down this 8-bit gridiron. This game has probably done more for the legend of Bo Jackson than one of real-field performances.
Gears of War- XBOX 360's killer app is quite a title to behold. Emergence Day 2006 was incredibly fun as my roommate and I played through the campaign in all it's gory goodness. The controls were tight, the visuals were amazing and the characters were badass. This game would be on the list even without the multiplayer component, but when that is added to the mix, this game becomes a time-eating behemoth. Every night for months, the roomie and I would log onto live around 12:30 and play till four in the morning. The"just one more match" addicitve factor is quite high in this game. You have been warned.
Half-Life 1&2-These games were just fun. I am not even going to begin to describe the story for you, suffice to say, I am not even sure I completely get it. The G-Man is creepy, the gravity gun causes quite a ruckus and there's not many better ways to kill your enemies than with a virtual crowbar. Kudos to Alyx Vance for being the most believable character in videogames history. It is indescribable how life-like she is, especially in Episode One.
Rome:TW- If you ever wanted to be the leader of an empire, be warned it is damned hard work. The amount of control over your world in theTotal War series is great. This game lets you take control of not only your empire's expansion through other territories moving armies and building cites but would also allow you to control your troops on the battlefield. It was also pretty impressive to see that many units on screen at once battling it.
Metal Gear Solid 3- Even though I love all the Metal Gear games, this one is by far my favorite. What is it with me and games with great stories and great plot twists. Well, Snake Eater had both and incredibly polished gameplay to boot. This game also has some of the most memorable boss battles in any game ever. In one of them you are literally wading through a river overflowing with the souls of all the soldiers you have killed. That kind of ingenuity has propelled onto my list.
Wow, picking just those games was really hard.It turned out be alot more than a few but what can I say, I like to play da vidjagames. If anyone actually reads this, thank you and please read again in the future when I will cover much more interesting topics than myself.
