LEFT 4 DEAD 2 was announced by Valve during E3 2009..

..and I was not very happy with this announcement.

I have purchased L4D a while ago and I have spent some hours shooting zombies.
I really liked the game, but sometimes it felt really awesome, while others - really boring/frustrating (mostly during Versus mode). I loved the new Survival mode when it came out as a free DLC.
However, I have not played this game in a while..mostly because if I wanna play a multiplayer game then I launch Team Fortress 2 (this game just doesn't get boring) and L4D doesn't have that many levels as TF2 does and it gets a bit boring..

Anyways, I do not regret my purchase of L4D, but I disagree that L4D2 should be released. It feels just too quick, especially from Valve that takes a long time (maybe too long sometime) to release a sequel.
I would like to see more DLC's for L4D because I think it needs more guns, maps, modes, etc. but a new game?

I also don't like that there will be new characters. I like old characters and I think they fit well. The new ones don't look so friendly. I don't see what's the problem to keep old characters in place..?

Also, I don't like that most of the maps are set during day time in L4D2. That just doesn't fit in survival-horror-zombie game..daytime? Seriously?...

Lastly, the name itself just sounds weird and funny...Left 4 Dead 2..hmm...NOT!
They could have changed the name, something like 'Left 2 Die' (found this name somewhere in internet).

I just don't know..L4D2 seems too quick and nothing too new from L4D. It just feels that Valve wants to make a quick buck releasing a sequel that is very similar to the frist one.
Currently, from all the demos and pictures I have no desire to buy L4D2 and I still feels L4D needs more DLC's because it might 'die' if they forget about it.
Also, if someone doesn't have neither of the games, then which one he/she will buy? (I believe the choice would be L4D2, leaving L4D alone and thus with fewer players).

What do you think about L4D2? Do you own original L4D?

VS

-my vote goes to L4D crew -

I haven't a problem with it, sure the sequel has been announced a little early but I'd rather pay for an entirely new game than DLC after DLC. I don't think people will stop playing the original game just because of this either.

no I dont own L4D but I rented it and beat it on normal but L4D2 seems like itll be more fun than L4D.

Yeah, it does feel a bit rushed, and there wasn't much in the sequel that blew me away. Then again, they're trying to make Left 4 Dead a powerful franchise...it's just what valve does.

I agree with you, I'm not fussed about the character or location change but the whole move feels like a crude joke. Valve doesn't do this, or at least it never used to. If people looked at Valve's past efforts on PC they'd expect a few campaigns, maybe a few new weapons and some bonuses, we got a survival mode and one small uninteresting map. L4D was lite on content, L4D post release support was VERY poor when it's Valve. Not to mention the huge delay of the versus maps and the huge delay of the SDK. It's really odd and I can't believe they did it.

Chet did say that the original 4 still are considered L4D important so they'll go back to them. Whether that means L4D3 in nov 2010 with old characters is another thing. Again why they needed to introduce new characters is beyond me, Chet said new location demanded it. I think Chet is lying through his teeth.

I don't play any M-rated games. Just look at the Halo killer.
Posted Jun 17, 2009 9:19 pm PT
I like Francis so im going with L4D how could they replace him.
Posted Jun 17, 2009 9:51 pm PT
I don't have a problem with it, but it is way toooo fast if you take in considering that Valve is making that game, It will sell good for sure but I don't know if this is a smart move When I saw it on Microsoft presentation it just felt wierd and you are right for the name

well have fun and see ya

I'm not -too- keen on the idea myself, however I'm willing to try it. For one, it's Valve, they've never failed to disappoint me at all. The thing that gets me though is that I paid $60 for L4D and didn't get much for the dollar. Don't get me wrong, the game itself was awesome and I loved everything about it, but I just wish there was more to it, it felt incomplete.

I will be willing to get L4D2, the characters look a little... Silly though. I hope that they add more to this game than was presented in L4D, that'd make it so much better.

I think it's dumb honestly. The argument on point is what you've said and that's just a case of... What about the first? Valve did say they were going to intend to add more to L4D and, if that's the case, why make a 2nd? It's such a weird move... I don't get it and I don't know if I want to spend $50 on it at all.

If they do this twice, then let's start throwing a fit. But this is their first time, so who cares. The Left 4 Dead team, Valve South (previous Turtle Rock Studios), wanted to do a sequel so they got to do a sequel. I think Valve should be commended for that kind of attitude towards their employees. Gabe lets his employees decide what they want to do; most other big publishers decide for their employees and are restrictive and very stringent on how the game is developed.

L4D2 still seems like an expansion pack for me personally, and I will always prefer the original crew.
Posted Jun 17, 2009 11:58 pm PT
L4D2 will be as awesome as its predecessor
Posted Jun 18, 2009 12:41 am PT
L4D crew is better than L4D2
Posted Jun 18, 2009 12:49 am PT
On one hand, people say they hate DLC and will just wait for the new game. But if the new game is announced too early, the complain and say they want DLC.

My gripe with the game is that its only coming to Xbox because they cant be bothered to port it to PS3 because the PS3 is 'complex'. This, and the small timeframe makes me think they wont put much effort into it
Posted Jun 18, 2009 2:37 am PT
Yeah, it just seems like more of the same.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 3:51 am PT
I haven't played L4D but my friend loves it. I thnk it's too soon to release L4D2 but lots of people are still going to buy this game.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 4:07 am PT
It seems like a lot of people weren't happy with Left 4 Dead. Perhaps it's just the "shooting hordes of zombies" is getting repetitive in games. Almost as cliche as space marines fighting aliens or disenfranchised minority working his way up the ladder by stealing cars.
Plus I think everyone is wondering what's taking "Half Life 2-Episode 3" so long.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 4:14 am PT
Joey IS HOT! NOBODY should/could replace her. So it's LFD crew (I don't have any problems with LFD2, doesn't really matter tbh)
Posted Jun 18, 2009 4:30 am PT
I don't expect L4D2 to be anything special since there releasing it so early.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 6:13 am PT
I actually liked the second group of people. The old guy is priceless
Posted Jun 18, 2009 6:19 am PT
ahh I dont know I think that left 4 dead 2 should come out right about know same with bioshock2 im always striving for a new game
Posted Jun 18, 2009 6:31 am PT
I don't own the original but I've played it pretty extensively. I love the co-op campaign, but survival kinda sucks. And yeah, given the Valve is extremely well-known for post-release support of their games, particularly multiplayer games (case in point: Team Fortress 2) it's certainly unconventional that they're releasing a sequel like this instead of just adding on to the first Left 4 Dead.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 6:34 am PT
I've always wanted to play L4D but don't have a X360 and my PC can't run the game, but I am aware that L4D was a huge success and sequel was inevitable. I'm sure it's shocked many fans but I'm totally excited for this game...and I can't even play it
Posted Jun 18, 2009 7:29 am PT
The first L4D was awesome. It was kind of repetitive but it was fun. It was cool that a sequel got announced, I just wish those boycotters would shut up.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 7:37 am PT
I think it's a bit rushed as well considering it's only been a year. HOWEVER, more L4D to play is good news to me though. And I agree with loop 101, I'd rather pay the money and get an entirely new games rather than pay nearly the same amount and it be DLC.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 7:59 am PT
I dont have the game, but i heard alot of people are signing a petition.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 9:21 am PT
I have played L4D but I'm not really a big fan of it. I don't really have an opinion about the new L4D2. It doesn't bother me.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 9:32 am PT
yeah, idk. Everything gets a sequal these days. The first one was alright, i'd never buy it tho. I mite the second one because it's pretty much the same game but newer, I guess..
Posted Jun 18, 2009 10:24 am PT
I loved the first one, the only problem I have with Valve is why the hell didn't they show something about Half Life 2: Episode 3.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 10:26 am PT
I agree, I think they should give up L4D 2 and just make free dlc for the original left 4 dead. Also its weird they would put it in daytime because that ruins the survival horror as you said. Well thats my opinion
Posted Jun 18, 2009 10:59 am PT
I still havent played the first one.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 11:19 am PT
People will not stop playing the original.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 11:19 am PT
I don't think it's necessary. Left 4 Dead was not a good game , it bored me lots.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 11:32 am PT
"Oh hey guys, I heard you liked L4D, so we decided to disregard the possibilities of patches and release a second game! Brand new characters and a creepy daytime setting! Everyone knows how creepy daytime settings are - just look at Resident Evil 5!"
Posted Jun 18, 2009 1:15 pm PT
I think that we cannot say nothing until really play it. But, until now, the propositions made by L4D2 interested me. Don't understand me bad, I love L4D and a new game of it is very welcome to me. If it will be good or bad, who knows? Let's wait and see what Valve will say and show to us until there... =]
Posted Jun 18, 2009 1:49 pm PT
I got the first 1, twice lol. And yeah... I don't like that L4D2 is already announced. What's worse is that it looks like crap.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 2:01 pm PT
I don't know usually Valve always takes their time on games and it seems to me they're rushing on this one and I hope it lives up to the standards Valve has for awesome games.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 2:03 pm PT
I was surprised that Valve announced L4D2 considering their track record on releasing games. I was excited that it will come out this year but also felt like its too early. L4D got a little boring cause of the lack of maps and the non-supported custom content (I'm sure Valve will fix that). I hope L4D gets more content and hope that L4D2 will turn out good. And yeah, TF2 never gets boring!
Posted Jun 18, 2009 2:08 pm PT
I've never played the original.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 3:41 pm PT
I totally agree with you. I've owned L4D for a while now and I still play it from time to time. However, they really changed things for the worst when it comes to Versus mode. The original game made it a little to easy for the human players. Then they patched up the game a few times and made it so that it's next to impossible to beat each level as the humans. This has made the game pretty frustrating for me and instead of fixing it, it looks like Valve is just going to scrap the game and make a new one. I think its way too soon and will probably think twice to see if I pick it up.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 4:06 pm PT
according to valve the DLC they would have been provided would have been FREEE!!!!
Posted Jun 18, 2009 4:50 pm PT
I personally thought this was announced a bit too early too, though I never played the original one. And when I generally play a sequel I usually want to see the same characters returning. I think Left 4 Dead might be going in the direction of GTA (another game I don't own), where every game in the series has a new cast of characters surviving the zombie apocalypse.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 6:16 pm PT
Well I couldn't get enough of the first one so I'll be enjoying this one.
Posted Jun 18, 2009 7:29 pm PT
it's waste of money unless they'll improve gameplay, add single player campaign, new multi modes
Posted Jun 19, 2009 12:23 am PT
This could be the first mistake Valve have made. I really dont know what they were thinking. They should have supported L4D for at least 3 years before releasing the second game.
Posted Jun 19, 2009 9:43 am PT
I liked the first game and I can't understand why a good chouldn't have a sequal, it's not like they are forcing you to buy this .
Posted Jun 19, 2009 1:47 pm PT
I like the L4D crew better, but I'll still be purchasing L4D2 when it comes out.
Posted Jun 19, 2009 2:38 pm PT
I don't know whether it's necessary or not,but I wouldn't mind playing it....
Posted Jun 19, 2009 9:17 pm PT
The first game was fun, I played it a lot...........

But no doubt it was an Incomplete game, Only 5 Guns & 4 Scenarios & 4 Bosses, the game definitely needs expansions..........

If we see Valve record, This doesn't fit their st-yle, May b they r hungry for more or Microsoft pushed them for exclusive, we can't know for sure, If u remember The Orange Box expansion pack was priced on X360 & free on PC because Microsoft didn't allowed them & as Valve says they had a hard time giving L4D expansion free on X360........................

The New crew is definitely weaker then previous one, I love Francis & Zoe in first game, Where did the L4D crew picture gone????

The name is OK to me but not the poster, The same Poster again.............

By the way whatever I say, I will b buying L4D 2, No doubt about that.............
