I was looking out the door yesterday and a hawk came out of nowhere and grabbed a bunny about 8 eight away and flew off with it. -> -> Seeing nature up close sucks sometimes.
Made me wonder if the hawk would be capable of picking up one of the puppies.

Anyone here watch Whale Wars on tv? Those Japanese whalers are some sick people.

Poor Bunny. What a Hawk...

I'm sure that, given how you've been describing it, the suffering of a puppy taken by a hawk would probably be less than it would end up going through if it stayed with that kid.

Since I'm in Japan at the moment, I've promised myself that I'm not going to debate the ethics of the issue of whaling since it will only lead to trouble, but let me just say that I think that people who come here for the specific purpose of protesting against it are complete idiots since not only do they inevitably fail to convince the locals, they turn them off people like myself who really mean no harm. Recently I visited a city where the economy has a large stake in whaling (I was not aware of that until I got there), and about 80% of the locals glared at me as though I was that wanted serial killer whose picture popped up in the news the night before.

The Sea Shepherd group from the show battle the Japanese whalers down in the Antartic waters. They say people in Japan consider the Sea Shepherds to be as bad as the Taliban. They have a Japanese girl as a translator for them on their boat, and she covers her face because she doesn't want to be recognized and have her family be attacked.

Sea Shepherd? Although I won't go so far as to liken them to the Taliban, even I think they're a bunch of idiots who should butt out. One of their "battles" caused a huge media circus in Aus last year, and I have the distinct impression that what they say is about as trustworthy as what the whalers say, and that they have an even bigger disregard for the law than the Japanese do. They're one of those groups that acts as though as long as people agree with their cause, they can do whatever the hell they want because if someone tries to stop them, they'd scream "The ______ government supports whaling!" which would be a PR nightmare in almost any country.
