Even the Candy episodes weren\\\'t all that bad.
I\\\'m pretty sure Pernell thought he was too good for the show at least as an ACTORE. I suppose he wanted to cavort in a Shakespearean play or some sort. I remember once on the Mike Douglas show(I think) many years ago, Mel from the Dick Van Dyke Show shamed Pernell into saying \\\"Thank you Bonanza\\\" for what the show had contributed to his career.

Brian Keith must have studied Milburn Stone's method of acting: Rub your face a lot.-- I've always wondered if this was a manifestation of a drinking problem. Anyhoo, Milburn was a fine actor and exceptionally well cast member of the Gunsmoke series. He consistently underplayed his role, which I always find admirable. He and Matt, Kitty, Chester, Quint, and Festus made one fine ensemble.
I don't know how the above "Riding the Family Name" came about, but maybe Milburn was related to John or John Quincy Adams. Surely not Nick Adams!!!
Years ago on the Glen Campbell Show, Milburn, Festus, and Glen sang in three-part harmony the songs of the Sons of the Pioneers such as Tumblin' Tumbleweeds. Sounded like the originals. I believe Ken was a former members of the Sons.

Ole Burt really surprised me with his performances as Quint on Gunsmoke. He underplayed the role to perfection. No scenery chewing or anything. It would have been easy to succumb to the temptation of hollering "Stella!!" or smoldering, or emoting as an ACTORE but he played it about as straightforward as he could. My hat's off to him.
Compare the shows he made to the ones with Thad and Newly. His performances comes out pretty good by comparison.

For over 600 shows Matt and Kitty never had any intimate contact to my knowledge. Yet on one episode while Kitty was on hiatus or had left the show, Matt is seen sucking on, I think, it was Beverly Garland from My Three Sons. What's up with that? Was there some kind of compact or directive from the producers?
There were many poignant moments on the show, especially near the ending, where a kiss had to be called for by the writers, but one never came. Very awkward.
But the actors handled it well and all this detracted very little from the shows. Amanda and James deserve a lot of credit for pulling this off.

Dennis Weaver is an excellent actor. There was Gunsmoke where he limped and hemmed and hawwed his goofy but lovable way through the scenes, he consistently emoted with the best of 'em. I enjoyed his performance in Duel, the movie with the crazy truck stalker. ( I still believe this movie was inspired by a Rockford Files episode, or vice versa.)
Why did Chester limp? Perhaps it was a Freudian reference to Matt's inability to exhibit sexual interest in Kitty. Thus the straight and stiff leg of his comic sidekick.(LIMP-get it?)Or maybe he fell in a hole.
Another thing I like about Dennis Weaver is that, to my knowledge, he never denigrated his role as Chester on Gunsmoke. ( I'll never forget Jethro when asked by Johnny Carson on the Tonight show what he thought of that classic role. He replied "how would you like to get hit over the head with a frying pan every week?" I would have liked to have whacked him with one then!)Ironic that he was then a Hollywood PRODUCER, a role he played hilariously on the Beverly Hillbillies.

debubba must really love MovieTome and agree with every review we've ever written! What other reason could debubba possibly have for not rating a single film?
