CK's Monthly Highlights: It's Batastic!

After countless amounts of posting editorials, I have finally hit the jackpot and one look at my emblems will tell you just that. I have to say, its a great feeling and one that I will remember for many years to come. With that, I would like to take this time to thank you, my friends that is, for whom this would not have been possible without your support and feedback. The following users deserve my utmost thanks for inspiring me to write blogs in the first place:

From your well written blogs to your dedication in commenting on all your friends blogs, you are the guy who is never short on things to say. The fact that I haven't read a short blog from you is testament to this. Also, your views on gaming is often at times spot on and your attention to detail in your blogs is one that admire and grew inspiration from.

hazelnutman

HECK YES! You are truly a unique individual who posts the zaniest and funniest blogs I have ever came across in my time at GS. Every blog that you write is filled to the brim with awesome details and is never ever short on the funnies.

Trivia: hazelnutman is known to tie ribbons on his beloved games and make love to them.

With that out of the way; here is my monthly blog written with a whole lot of love just for you. Yes, I know its a little late! As always, you can expect me to feature only the highlights that went through the month and boy is this edition feature packed.

Games Played

Batman Arkham Asylum

With Urban Chaos being Rocksteady's only developed game, surely this game wouldn't turn out to be a stellar hit let alone the return to form of the series, I thought back in the day. And I couldn't be any more wrong as Arkham Asylum delivers in abundance, from its superb voice acting to its intuitive fighting mechanic, its production values sets the benchmark for other license games to follow. How good is this game, well let's just say that, I immediately started the game again upon completing it, its that good.

"This is how you do the one, two step!"

Written by Paul Dini, Batman Arkham Asylum is based on the comic books and it begins with the Joker who has been captured and sent to the asylum to be locked away. It turns out that the Joker intends to create an army of Bane-like creatures from within the Asylum and use them to wreck terror onto Gotham City. Before Batman realises the Joker's elaborate plans, all hell breaks loose with his escape and the Joker goes on to release the inmates of the Asylum. What happens next, well play the game to find out.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box

Mind numbing puzzles infused in a point and click game, the Professor Layton franchise has become a sleeper hit that should be played by puzzle fans and non-fans alike. If you thought the first game was great, the Diabolical Box offers no less and with harder puzzles and more cutscenes included in this offering, its just that much harder to put down.

"You Jill, the master of unlocking take this...Oh wait!"

The game follows Professor Layton and Luke as they travel across the country to solve the mystery of the Diabolical Box, a strange box which is said to kill anyone who opens it. As always, you can expect to be engrossed in its well written story and with the game clocking in at over ten hours to boot, you will be hard pressed to find any niggling issues from this game. Did I mention that you could also download weekly puzzles from the game, well all the more reason to get the game.

Movies Watched

The Final Destination 3D

"Steer clear of this one, boys."

As with all the Final Destination movies, one cannot cheat death and even when you do beat the Grim Reaper, it will always come back, unless you break the chain that is. I have to say that this latest and hopefully last entry in the series is a letdown in all regards, as it clearly is mindless and the inspired death scenes leaves a lot to be desired. While the movie starts off rather well with its trademark carnage and gore, the ending is just so lame that it left me and other patrons fuming at how bad it was. With that, I only recommend it to Final Destination and gore fans. Others, steer clear of this one.

Gurren Lagann

What can I say, this anime just screams fun and amazing action all the same. You may recall that Roman_Irishman's recent blog That top's a bit much for your age.-Sorry I couldn't find anything to hold them in! featured a summary on Yoko and upon reading it, my interest was piqued and I immediately bought the anime. If robot fighting and great comedy is what you are looking for, you can't go wrong with Gurren Lagann.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

After Transformer's The Revenge of the Fallen left a bad aftertaste in my mouth, I approached this movie with low expectations as I expected the former film to be one of the better movies of the year. I have to say that G.I. Joe was a lot better and the fact that it didn't have the lowbrow humor of Revenge of the Fallen, I came out psyched and satisfied after watching this action extravaganza.
