Uncharted 2 – Platinum Trophy Obtained!

uncharted 2

The level of detail will keep you immersed in the game until the credits roll.

After playing a great deal of the game, I can safely say that its one of the better games that I have played. From its amazingly detailed environments to its intense set pieces that most big budget films can only dream of ever achieving, Uncharted 2's production values is going to take some beating. For everything that Drake's Fortune did right, this game ups the ante and it also sets a benchmark for other action games to follow - certainly a game that any self respecting PS3 owner needs in their collection.

Set a few years after Drake's Fortune, players are introduced to a familiar face - a notably bruised and injured Nathan Drake who has been shot in the hip. Upon waking up from his sleep, he notices that he is bleeding profusely with each passing second and before Drake figures out just what the hell went wrong, the train he is in plummets to the ground. As each seat and baggage begins to fall, our hero clambers on to whatever he can get his hands on. In this two minutes of finding your way out of this wreck and on to the mountain cliff, train parts will fall, debris will plummet to the abyss but one thing is clear, with such a great beginning to a game, it sets the stage for PS3's best action game to date.

Toughest Trophy – Beating the game on Crushing

If you have played through the first game and beaten it on Crushing, Uncharted 2 certainly is much easier with its smooth and intuitive controls that made it all the more possible. That isn't to say that its a walk in the park as anyone who has faced Lazarevic on the toughest difficulty setting is in for a tough time.

Demon's Souls

A fantasy action RPG developed by From Software, Demon's Souls is a PS3 exclusive that brings some much needed RPG goodness to the platform. With a dark fantasy theme, the game is described as a spiritual successor to the King's Field games. If customization interests you, the game enables players to customize their characters, name, hair styl-e and other characteristics to give them a unique look. In the game, players will have to make full use of their weapons as the demons that roam Boletaria are ruthless as they are menacing. There are several forms of magic that can be used in a defensive manner. When a player has been slained by an enemy, they initially become a Soul upon restart - albeit with a loss of health.

demon's souls

Expect fights like this to severely test your gaming fortitude.

Only after a player has defeated an enemy or used a particular item, can they be restored to life. Souls are collected in the game from defeated soldiers and heroes as well as siphoning energy from enemies killed in combat. In competitive play, a player who is a Soul can force themselves into another player's adventure, where they're known as Black Phantoms and play as their opponents. If the Phantom kills the other player, the Phantom is returned to life in their own game. While the game can be nothing short of amazing for players who thrive on its brutal difficulty, an average player might be overwhelmed with the challenge and miss out on this great title.

Siren Blood Curse

siren blood curse

John's date took a turn for the worse.

In this PS3 remake of the first Siren, the game begins with a cutscene that focuses on an American crew, that is sent to Japan to investigate the legend of the vanished village, Hanuda. A placewhere human sacrifices are said to have taken place thirty years ago. Removed from previous games, the Link Navigator has been replaced with twelve chronological episodes that contain intersecting scenarios for the various playable characters. For me, this game really nails the atmosphere and its really intense when you have to stealthily manoeuvre past the shibito, without knocking the randomly placed objects in the levels.

Surrogates

Based on the 2005-2006 comic book series of the same name, Surrogates revolves around the mysterious murder of a college student, Jarod Canter - who dies when his surrogate is destroyed by a Dread. As a surrogate offers protection to its owner to live life on the edge, free from any harm, death certainly wasn't possible until now. It turns out that the identity of the murderer is none other than Miles Strickland who also takes the lives of five police officers. How does Agent Tom Greer stop him and where does this leave the fate of humanity who seems intent on hiding their troubles behind them - watch the movie to find out. Be forewarned though, it isn't very good and its a shame really as this movie could have been great.

surrogates

Bruce Willis as a blond, certainly an image that doesn't work for him.

Gran Torino

Directed and produced by Clint Eastwood, Gran Torino is an American drama film that follows Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran whose relationship with his spoiled family is strained and somewhat detached. The film marks Eastwood's return to a lead acting role after four years, his last role having been in Million Dollar Baby. On a dare by his cousin for initiation into a gang, Thao, Walt's young neighbour tries to steal Walt's prized 1972 Gran Torino but fails.

gran torino

A set of good tools distinguishes the men from the boys.

A remorsed Thao along with his family shows up at Walt's house to make amends for his actions by offering to do chores. While somewhat reluctant at this offer, Walt accepts Thao's plea and grows fond of him. Clint Eastwood's portrayal of a troubled war veteran deserves credit as he delivers a masterful performance. Watch this movie to see how Walt goes to great lengths to rid the Thao family from Hmong gangsters - truly aa great film that you'll want to watch until the credits roll, highly recommended.

Mirrors

Ben Carson is an ex-police detective in New York whose alcoholism made him incompetent on the job and caused him to kill a man. Now he's trying to get his life in order. He's living with his kid sister to save money. He's taking medication to wean himself off the booze. Most important, he's trying to win back the trust of his estranged wife, a medical examiner, and maintain a loving relationship with his two young children. To make money while waiting for reinstatement, he takes a job as a night watchman at a department store gutted by fire. That was a mistake.

mirrors

What lies on the other side ain't pretty.

He is soon tormented by the same supernatural mirrors that plagued his predecessor. The images in these mirrors do not reflect reality as we know it. The images will stare back at you, but remain in the mirror when you walk away. The images will even try to kill you. Soon, Ben Carson finds that the mirrors' demons follow him everywhere in every reflective surface. They're willing to harass him and his family until they get what they want. Ben's job is to find out exactly what that is.

Trivia

In the final shot, as Ben approaches the mirrored building, a little Korean girl in white with a bright pink sweater and her mother pass by the window. The characters are identical to those in the final shot of the original film, Goeul Sokeuro (2003).

The name 'Esseker' is an anagram for 'Seekers. This can be an appropriate terminology for the demons who live on the other side of the mirrors seeking out their host, Anna Esseker.

Gregory Levasseur had to fill in as director for the scene where Kiefer Sutherland thinks he's on fire as Alexandre Aja had to leave urgently. His wife had just gone to premature labor.

Uncharted 2 Impressions

There are few games that you'll want to keep playing till you have beaten the game, even fewer are ones that grip you for hours with its unforgettable tale and memorable cast of characters. For each swashbucklingly intense Twilight Princess, there is an abysmal, Legendary game that you'll want too avoid at all cost. And with the bar being constantly pushed when it boils down to what makes a game great, the future of gaming has never looked more promising. Does Uncharted 2 fall into the latter category, read on to find out.

uncharted 2

If you have been scrounging the net for the latest news and updates like an eager beaver, chances are that you have already read about the rave reviews that the game has been getting. And yes, having played the game for two days straight, I can safely say that Uncharted 2 delivers in on the massive hype that lead up to its much anticipated release. If you need another reason to get a PS3, its this game alone that puts many other games to shame when it boils down to balls to the wall action, a believable cast that you will feel a sense of connection with and most of all great gameplay that has been long been a trademark of Naughty Dog.

In this two minutes of finding your way out of this wreck and on to the mountain cliff, train parts will fall, debris will plummet to the abyss but one thing is clear, with such a great beginning to a game, it sets the stage for PS3's best action game to date.

I have been tagged

Hey guys, I have been tagged by pakhair and shadowchronicle. To those that are unfamiliar with the tagging system, here's how it works; when you have been tagged by a user, you'll have to list down ten things about yourself. Upon doing so, you have to choose about three people and tag them. Well, here are ten things about me.

PREPARE TO BE BLOWN AWAY!!!

Ahem

1. First of all my username is DAVID_LCK. Do call me David Ick too if you wish, but in case you are wondering, my surname is Lee.

2. Italian food is what I live for, and I have yet to go a week without eating "insert Italian food here".

3. I live in Asia, Malaysia to be exact and it sure is hot here. Well, at least the girls are too.

4. I have never beaten a Final Fantasy game before. There I said it!

5. My biggest fear is cockroaches, thinking about them just makes me puke.

6. I used to be extremely shy around girls, all that has changed now though.

7. My profile might tell you that I have been a member for four years, but the truth is, I have only been actively using GS since May 09.

8. My favorite sports include soccer, basketball and hiking. However, I have since stopped playing basketball though. Too many mishaps and injuries when I play the game.

9. My consoles would include every iteration of Sony consoles as well as the PSP. As for other gaming platforms other than the PlayStation brand, I intend on getting a Nintendo Wii as there are a lot of great GameCube games that I missed out on.

10. I also procrastinate a lot, and its BAD. How bad you ask, well I once did an assignment three hours before it was due. Suffice to say I did pretty bad and I have since started early on finishing them.

So there you have it, ten random facts about me that I hoped have shed a little insight into what goes in the mind of David Ick. And now, the following users have to write ten (or more) facts about them. Here they are:

Move away Mario, Gordon Freeman has got the better of you!

Yep, not even the great and selfless plumber could pick up the plaudits as a certain individual has proven to be a thorn and obstacle for many. Long thought to be a forgone conclusion, many voters casted in their votes with the hopes that the usual suspects would bag the All Time Greatest Hero award, but it wasn't to be.

Saving the world from impending doom, Gordon Freeman deserves this illustrious award for he is an everyday man that stood up to adversity and overcame all odds that were stacked against him. The following are heroes that have fallen to his endeavors;

Bomberman

Yoshi

Solid Snake

Ryu

Samus Aran

Link

Mario

Better luck next time. To those of you that have voted, what did you make of the results and what surprised you most?

Games played, cravings and everything in between; in this monthly blog, I will shed some light into the games that I'll be purchasing from now till the end of the year. Be prepared though for its a long list, but as its filled to the brim with awesome-must-have-games, you'll be in for a treat. However, with the flood of quality games amongst us, I'll need to save every penny that I earn, even if it means not eating at all! Just kidding

September didn't have any notable game releases that were to my interest, which is why I didn't acquire any new titles.

Must Have Games

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

tag

"Ah crap, this gun isn't loaded!"

With its release drawing closer than ever, and with many sites giving it positive reviews, Uncharted 2 sure is shaping up to an epic sequel and quite possible a contender for GOTY. Just one look at the impressive trailer and its easy to see why so many are anticipating its release. And I am one of them

Here's what has changed:

Uncharted 2 will be using Naughty Dog Game Engine 2.0, a revamped and optimized version of the original engine that has allowed the game to have real-time moving environments, more realistic textures, and animations. Game demos have shown Nathan escape from an armed helicopter while inside a collapsing building and on top a moving train. The setting of Kathmandu in the game has been praised as "photo-realistic".

Naughty Dog will be utilizing all 25GB of space on the Blu-Ray disc format. More content = Major value!

It will push the Cell processor to its limit and deliver graphics that will undoubtedly set the benchmark for other console games to follow.

Anyone else getting the game when it launches?

------------------------------------------------------------------

Borderlands

borderlands

Drawing inspiration from the Mad Max film series and the famous role-playing game Diablo, Borderlands visual cues will be similar to those aforementioned titles.

One look at the game and you may assume that its an FPS game but you would be only half right as its gameplay is a mesh of RPG elements infused in a first person shooter. Borderlands is set in Pandora, a harsh desert planet that serves as the games environment and it might just be the surprise hit of the year. Here's what to expect from the game:

160 quest of varying length and complexity, 30 of these beig part of the main story and the rest of them as side quests.

Each quest rewards the player, with new weapons or maybe revealing a new piece of the story.

Choose from four playable characters, who each have their own unique abilities and skill trees.

Deceased enemies will drop some equipment, which will be available for you to pick up.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

modern warfare 2

Quite possibly the biggest and most hotly anticipated game of the year, Modern Warfare 2 is looking primed and ready to knock the competition aside. Not convinced, just look at the games that have been delayed to make way for this shooter:

... and many others that have been pushed back to avoid the Call of Duty effect. Your thoughts?

With customizable killstreaks, the ability to call upon an AC-130 when you have reached 11 kills in a row, riot shields; Modern Warfare 2 has built upon the successful formula of old and also added new features to keep you playing long after the campaign mode has been beaten.

Also introduced in the game is deathstreaks, a system that rewards players who have died three times in a row or more with added perks such as Copycat; which enables players to use their killer's loadout and Painkiller, which grants an increase health bonus for a short moment of time. Newcomers will greatly benefit from this as it may offer them some much needed respite from the deadlier and more skillful gamers who shoot with such precision that put many to shame!

Batman The Dark Knight

Hazelnutman's Caption:

"You know, poking someone in the back with your finger is very rude."

After countless amounts of watching this movie again and again, its charming and intriguing tale hasn't failed to grip me - the fact that each character was played out with such originality is one of the many reasons. It was also Heath Ledger's final role in a movie and his stellar portrayal of the Joker will forever be remembered. To those that hasn't seen the movie yet, where have you been?

Guys, I need your help with captioning the images that appear in this blog. Feel free to caption them with your comments and state the game title along with your caption and I'll include the best, funniest one in this blog. That's it for now, thanks for reading and have a great week.
