Uncharted 2 Impressions

There are few games that you'll want to keep playing till you have beaten the game, even fewer are ones that grip you for hours with its unforgettable tale and memorable cast of characters. For each swashbucklingly intense Twilight Princess, there is an abysmal, Legendary game that you'll want too avoid at all cost. And with the bar being constantly pushed when it boils down to what makes a game great, the future of gaming has never looked more promising. Does Uncharted 2 fall into the latter category, read on to find out.

uncharted 2

If you have been scrounging the net for the latest news and updates like an eager beaver, chances are that you have already read about the rave reviews that the game has been getting. And yes, having played the game for two days straight, I can safely say that Uncharted 2 delivers in on the massive hype that lead up to its much anticipated release. If you need another reason to get a PS3, its this game alone that puts many other games to shame when it boils down to balls to the wall action, a believable cast that you will feel a sense of connection with and most of all great gameplay that has been long been a trademark of Naughty Dog.

Set a few years after Drake's Fortune, players are introduced to a familiar face - a notably bruised and injured Nathan Drake who has been shot in the hip. Upon waking up from his sleep, he notices that he is bleeding profusely with each passing second and before Drake figures out just what the hell went wrong, the train he is in plummets to the ground. As each seat and baggage begins to fall, our hero clambers on to whatever he can get his hands on. In this two minutes of finding your way out of this wreck and on to the mountain cliff, train parts will fall, debris will plummet to the abyss but one thing is clear, with such a great beginning to a game, it sets the stage for PS3's best action game to date.

I have been tagged

Hey guys, I have been tagged by pakhair and shadowchronicle. To those that are unfamiliar with the tagging system, here's how it works; when you have been tagged by a user, you'll have to list down ten things about yourself. Upon doing so, you have to choose about three people and tag them. Well, here are ten things about me.

PREPARE TO BE BLOWN AWAY!!!

Ahem

1. First of all my username is DAVID_LCK. Do call me David Ick too if you wish, but in case you are wondering, my surname is Lee.

2. Italian food is what I live for, and I have yet to go a week without eating "insert Italian food here".

3. I live in Asia, Malaysia to be exact and it sure is hot here. Well, at least the girls are too.

4. I have never beaten a Final Fantasy game before. There I said it!

5. My biggest fear is cockroaches, thinking about them just makes me puke.

6. I used to be extremely shy around girls, all that has changed now though.

7. My profile might tell you that I have been a member for four years, but the truth is, I have only been actively using GS since May 09.

8. My favorite sports include soccer, basketball and hiking. However, I have since stopped playing basketball though. Too many mishaps and injuries when I play the game.

9. My consoles would include every iteration of Sony consoles as well as the PSP. As for other gaming platforms other than the PlayStation brand, I intend on getting a Nintendo Wii as there are a lot of great GameCube games that I missed out on.

10. I also procrastinate a lot, and its BAD. How bad you ask, well I once did an assignment three hours before it was due. Suffice to say I did pretty bad and I have since started early on finishing them.

So there you have it, ten random facts about me that I hoped have shed a little insight into what goes in the mind of David Ick. And now, the following users have to write ten (or more) facts about them. Here they are:

@gamer_girl15

@D3nnyCrane

@Bioshockraptor

Move away Mario, Gordon Freeman has got the better of you!

Yep, not even the great and selfless plumber could pick up the plaudits as a certain individual has proven to be a thorn and obstacle for many. Long thought to be a forgone conclusion, many voters casted in their votes with the hopes that the usual suspects would bag the All Time Greatest Hero award, but it wasn't to be.

Saving the world from impending doom, Gordon Freeman deserves this illustrious award for he is an everyday man that stood up to adversity and overcame all odds that were stacked against him. The following are heroes that have fallen to his endeavors;

Bomberman

Yoshi

Solid Snake

Ryu

Samus Aran

Link

Mario

Better luck next time. To those of you that have voted, what did you make of the results and what surprised you most?

Games played, cravings and everything in between; in this monthly blog, I will shed some light into the games that I'll be purchasing from now till the end of the year. Be prepared though for its a long list, but as its filled to the brim with awesome-must-have-games, you'll be in for a treat. However, with the flood of quality games amongst us, I'll need to save every penny that I earn, even if it means not eating at all! Just kidding

September didn't have any notable game releases that were to my interest, which is why I didn't acquire any new titles.

Must Have Games

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

tag

"Ah crap, this gun isn't loaded!"

With its release drawing closer than ever, and with many sites giving it positive reviews, Uncharted 2 sure is shaping up to an epic sequel and quite possible a contender for GOTY. Just one look at the impressive trailer and its easy to see why so many are anticipating its release. And I am one of them

Here's what has changed:

Uncharted 2 will be using Naughty Dog Game Engine 2.0, a revamped and optimized version of the original engine that has allowed the game to have real-time moving environments, more realistic textures, and animations. Game demos have shown Nathan escape from an armed helicopter while inside a collapsing building and on top a moving train. The setting of Kathmandu in the game has been praised as "photo-realistic".

Naughty Dog will be utilizing all 25GB of space on the Blu-Ray disc format. More content = Major value!

It will push the Cell processor to its limit and deliver graphics that will undoubtedly set the benchmark for other console games to follow.

Anyone else getting the game when it launches?

------------------------------------------------------------------

Borderlands

borderlands

Drawing inspiration from the Mad Max film series and the famous role-playing game Diablo, Borderlands visual cues will be similar to those aforementioned titles.

One look at the game and you may assume that its an FPS game but you would be only half right as its gameplay is a mesh of RPG elements infused in a first person shooter. Borderlands is set in Pandora, a harsh desert planet that serves as the games environment and it might just be the surprise hit of the year. Here's what to expect from the game:

160 quest of varying length and complexity, 30 of these beig part of the main story and the rest of them as side quests.

Each quest rewards the player, with new weapons or maybe revealing a new piece of the story.

Choose from four playable characters, who each have their own unique abilities and skill trees.

Deceased enemies will drop some equipment, which will be available for you to pick up.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

modern warfare 2

Quite possibly the biggest and most hotly anticipated game of the year, Modern Warfare 2 is looking primed and ready to knock the competition aside. Not convinced, just look at the games that have been delayed to make way for this shooter:

Red Dead Redemption 2

... and many others that have been pushed back to avoid the Call of Duty effect. Your thoughts?

With customizable killstreaks, the ability to call upon an AC-130 when you have reached 11 kills in a row, riot shields; Modern Warfare 2 has built upon the successful formula of old and also added new features to keep you playing long after the campaign mode has been beaten.

Also introduced in the game is deathstreaks, a system that rewards players who have died three times in a row or more with added perks such as Copycat; which enables players to use their killer's loadout and Painkiller, which grants an increase health bonus for a short moment of time. Newcomers will greatly benefit from this as it may offer them some much needed respite from the deadlier and more skillful gamers who shoot with such precision that put many to shame!

Batman The Dark Knight

After countless amounts of watching this movie again and again, its charming and intriguing tale hasn't failed to grip me - the fact that each character was played out with such originality is one of the many reasons. It was also Heath Ledger's final role in a movie and his stellar portrayal of the Joker will forever be remembered. To those that hasn't seen the movie yet, where have you been?

After countless amounts of posting editorials, I have finally hit the jackpot and one look at my emblems will tell you just that. I have to say, its a great feeling and one that I will remember for many years to come. With that, I would like to take this time to thank you, my friends that is, for whom this would not have been possible without your support and feedback. The following users deserve my utmost thanks for inspiring me to write blogs in the first place:

pakhair

From your well written blogs to your dedication in commenting on all your friends blogs, you are the guy who is never short on things to say. The fact that I haven't read a short blog from you is testament to this. Also, your views on gaming is often at times spot on and your attention to detail in your blogs is one that admire and grew inspiration from.

hazelnutman

HECK YES! You are truly a unique individual who posts the zaniest and funniest blogs I have ever came across in my time at GS. Every blog that you write is filled to the brim with awesome details and is never ever short on the funnies.

Trivia: hazelnutman is known to tie ribbons on his beloved games and make love to them.

With that out of the way; here is my monthly blog written with a whole lot of love just for you. Yes, I know its a little late! As always, you can expect me to feature only the highlights that went through the month and boy is this edition feature packed.

Games Played

Batman Arkham Asylum

With Urban Chaos being Rocksteady's only developed game, surely this game wouldn't turn out to be a stellar hit let alone the return to form of the series, I thought back in the day. And I couldn't be any more wrong as Arkham Asylum delivers in abundance, from its superb voice acting to its intuitive fighting mechanic, its production values sets the benchmark for other license games to follow. How good is this game, well let's just say that, I immediately started the game again upon completing it, its that good.

tag

"This is how you do the one, two step!"

Written by Paul Dini, Batman Arkham Asylum is based on the comic books and it begins with the Joker who has been captured and sent to the asylum to be locked away. It turns out that the Joker intends to create an army of Bane-like creatures from within the Asylum and use them to wreck terror onto Gotham City. Before Batman realises the Joker's elaborate plans, all hell breaks loose with his escape and the Joker goes on to release the inmates of the Asylum. What happens next, well play the game to find out.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box

Mind numbing puzzles infused in a point and click game, the Professor Layton franchise has become a sleeper hit that should be played by puzzle fans and non-fans alike. If you thought the first game was great, the Diabolical Box offers no less and with harder puzzles and more cutscenes included in this offering, its just that much harder to put down.

tag

"You Jill, the master of unlocking take this...Oh wait!"

The game follows Professor Layton and Luke as they travel across the country to solve the mystery of the Diabolical Box, a strange box which is said to kill anyone who opens it. As always, you can expect to be engrossed in its well written story and with the game clocking in at over ten hours to boot, you will be hard pressed to find any niggling issues from this game. Did I mention that you could also download weekly puzzles from the game, well all the more reason to get the game.

Movies Watched

The Final Destination 3D

tag

"Steer clear of this one, boys."

As with all the Final Destination movies, one cannot cheat death and even when you do beat the Grim Reaper, it will always come back, unless you break the chain that is. I have to say that this latest and hopefully last entry in the series is a letdown in all regards, as it clearly is mindless and the inspired death scenes leaves a lot to be desired. While the movie starts off rather well with its trademark carnage and gore, the ending is just so lame that it left me and other patrons fuming at how bad it was. With that, I only recommend it to Final Destination and gore fans. Others, steer clear of this one.

Gurren Lagann

tag

What can I say, this anime just screams fun and amazing action all the same. You may recall that Roman_Irishman's recent blog That top's a bit much for your age.-Sorry I couldn't find anything to hold them in! featured a summary on Yoko and upon reading it, my interest was piqued and I immediately bought the anime. If robot fighting and great comedy is what you are looking for, you can't go wrong with Gurren Lagann.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

After Transformer's The Revenge of the Fallen left a bad aftertaste in my mouth, I approached this movie with low expectations as I expected the former film to be one of the better movies of the year. I have to say that G.I. Joe was a lot better and the fact that it didn't have the lowbrow humor of Revenge of the Fallen, I came out psyched and satisfied after watching this action extravaganza.

Before I end, I know I have been late to comment on some of your blogs, but fret not for I will always leave a comment. Would be trackers, consider yourselves noted. With that, have a great week and see you in the forums.
