The title says it all

The Mets choose pitcher Mike Pelfrey out of Wichtia State with the 9th overall pick in the draft today.Pelfrey was considered the best pitcher in this year's draft, but he fell to the 9 slot because of the possibility of a long holdout(Pelfrey=Boras client).Boras had already contacted the Mets by the start of the 3rd round.Pelfrey was one of two pitchers the Mets considered drafting with the 9th selection.

There had been lots of talk that the Mets would take St. John's closer Craig Hanson, who was selected by the Red Sox with the 26th pick,at the 9th spot.Only yesterday did the Mets consider taking Pelfrey with the pick.

Pelfrey has a 6'7,210 pound frame, which many scouts consider to be the perfect pitcher's body. The 21-year old is a power pitcher with a natural curve on his fastball which has been clocked as high as 97 MPH,but it usually falls in the 93-95 MPH range. He has a changeup which baffles left-handed batters and a curveball that could use some work.

Pelfrey had an 11-2 record and a 1.47 ERA in 16 games this season for Wichtia. He struck out 121batters in 117 innings while allowing only 24 walks and 75 hits.

Great pick Omar, everything you read about him was all good, the only negative was signability.Boras and Wilpon are very familiar with eachother,so there shouldn't be any extended holdouts al la Drew and Weaver.

Just think,if this kid is as good as everyone says he is,we could have a rotation of Petit,Humber,Pelfrey,Heilman and player X in 5 years. That,my friends, would be an amazing rotation.

Some people just don't have opinions. Like darkmissile.
darkmissile must really love MovieTome and agree with every review we've ever written! What other reason could darkmissile possibly have for not rating a single film?
