The other day I bought a new DVD off Amazon, called Battle Royale, I heard good things about it and it looks really good. I found it cheap so i got it. I just watched it and oh my god, it's amazing. Imagine this:

You and your class have been taken to an Island, where you are told you have to kill each other until one remains. There is no way of getting off the island and the only way for you to survive is if you are the only one left. But if there are more than one person alive after 3 days you will all die. You may have to kill your best friend.

From that you can tell it is very controversial, i mean come on 42 15 year old teenagers being forces to kill each other for no real reason. I myself don't love blood and guts, so that isn't the reason for me loving the film so much, it's the way it was shown. The japanese have a way with your emotions, there are sad and scary moments.

I will tell you now the film is not for the faint hearted, there is alot of death and gore, and is not for everyone, but it is one of those films that is just breathtaking in so many levels, it is so well made, it puts all other films like it to shame. There is nothing like it. Each character has his or her own feeling on the whole matter and different ways of playing the 'Game', some are trying to beat the system, some are killing everyone else so they can survive and some try to avoid fighting etc. It really makes you think, in that situation, could you kill your best friend?

It was so controversial it hasn't really made it outside of Japan, even though there are DVD's available for the US and UK, though you probably won't find it in the local high street. It was never dubbed outside of Japan, so it's got english subs. But that doesn't matter on bit, it's an amazing film, that for it's kind will come once in a life time. For those who like that sort of film will love it.
