Hey guys. Based on your feedback we've begun to explore different color schemes. We're still trying to settle on one so any feedback you have will be appreciated. All I have right now are screen caps. Take a look and see what you think:

I like the darker style.

I see black margins (there are no margins now), but other than that, the look is the same as the homepage already. If the gutters are introduced, I suppose it will not be TV.com "wide". Which is OK with me. Actually, just bumping the typesize up a bit would probably help a lot.

I like it, but the only real difference is that the margins are now black/grey, other than that i see no other differences, but i do still prefer it over the current. =)

The borders are good, but if you could tone down the white center background to something like a faint blue or even an off-white, it would be a lot easier on the eyes and contrast nicely with the grey borders. The problem I see with the proposed change is if the amount of screen space that the white curently inhabits is reduced, it would still be the part of the screen where all the text is. It would still require us to stare straight into it and it would still be headache-inducing.

I only see one front page cap but it's darker and I like that. The only real difference is the margins but I'll take any reduction in the white I can get. Scott-

I like it. As Hoeech says, if you could tone down the white to a pale greyish colour that would make it easier for everyone.
Posted Dec 26, 2008 1:34 pm PT
I also agree with Hoeech, the darker margins are great (where there still are margins) but it's the bright white in the middle that could use a little toning down. A light-gray, pale blue...

If people don't have a wide screen monitor changing the borders to dark grey or black is pointless since it mostly gets cut off anyway. For me at least the default font size being so small is a bigger issue than the white background, not everyone has the eyes of a 20 year-old. On older versions of Windows (like I have at work) you can't make it bigger and on the Vista version if you make the font bigger, but then it's bigger on every website you visit, which is a bad option IMO.

TV.com looks really good the way it is atm, but WOW, those screen shots look AWESOME! Maybe you guys should do what GameSpot does and offer two colours. Anyway congratulations on a great site

Darker sides would be a welcome improvment, although I wish there could be more changes. Hopefully this change could be the start of more positive improvements.

The black is wonderful, but I hate the orange. Maybe make a theme selector, that way everyone would be happy.
Posted Dec 26, 2008 3:07 pm PT
It's definitely an improvement.
Posted Dec 26, 2008 4:44 pm PT
The black one works for me. Reminds me of how the site looked circa 2005.
Posted Dec 26, 2008 4:46 pm PT
Wish we could see the example in real size because I wonder if the dark borders would make the white even whiter? Hard to say. I like Mac-Ale's idea about font size also. If the white was just a tad grey and the fonts a bit larger? And get rid of the user/pull down menu.
Thank-you for including us. I'm glad they're making an effort and it is appreciated.

It's still too white. I think I'd prefer white text on grey background.
Posted Dec 26, 2008 6:58 pm PT
I agree with everyone here, the white is blinding, no matter how you cut it. In addition, the font needs to remain darker, and perhaps a bit larger.
Posted Dec 26, 2008 9:34 pm PT
Any way to darken up the center portion?
Posted Dec 26, 2008 10:07 pm PT
I'd like to see it have a dark blue background since most of the site is blue.
It's not bad.
It's not bad.
Posted Dec 26, 2008 11:27 pm PT
Oh, and if you can make the fonts bigger, that helps a lot too.
Posted Dec 27, 2008 12:08 am PT
I'm still a fan of the old bluer version, but this is an improvement. However, all this other white still needs to toned down and bigger fonts!
Posted Dec 27, 2008 4:22 am PT
The black margins would help a lot. We still need the font to be black instead of gray. And larger.
Posted Dec 27, 2008 5:41 am PT
I think that a gray background would be nice. Still very bright white. Or you could bring back the blue theme and the original logo...
Posted Dec 27, 2008 6:23 am PT
How 'bout considering a leopard print? LOL!
Posted Dec 27, 2008 8:57 am PT
I like it seems like a good idea for a style.
Posted Dec 27, 2008 11:31 am PT
Yes, that color would be wayyy better. I still miss the news headlines on the homepage......
Posted Dec 27, 2008 1:04 pm PT
I'm sorry but I'm losing the will to live (or at least stay here) after all this time all you have come up with is to darken the borders and still have the white main section!

My experience is that you will never be able to come to any concensus among users about site colors. Personally, I like the current colors. The new colors also look good to me. Before you folks go any further with this site you should make the designers and programmers become editors for at least one show so they can see the problems we see.
Posted Dec 28, 2008 6:24 am PT
Increasing the size of the text is just as important as reducing the white.
Posted Dec 28, 2008 11:21 am PT
Nicer, but I would go for less extreme contrast. Maybe make the white into a light grey or blue or something...
Posted Dec 28, 2008 12:39 pm PT
An off-white in the parts people actually look at,(forum posts, blog comments, etc) would be great. When commentig in a fourm the header for each poster with their avatar and "member since:, is actually a nice grey.
Along tose lines, when commenting here the avatar and member since is concise and off to the left. In the forums it actually takes more space then most posts. It makes it difficult enough to read that I actually stopped posting and following the forums.
The blog comment layout and the forum header color scheme would be outstanding.
Thanks for listening to comments and (hopefully) listening this time around.

Also Danmod, these level glitches really need to be fixed!
Posted Dec 28, 2008 6:50 pm PT
It's a definite improvement from how awful the site looks now, but I wouldn't say it's anywhere near enough of an improvement. Making the site look like it did in August would probably make a great deal many more people happy. Get rid of the white and bigger fonts.
Posted Dec 28, 2008 9:30 pm PT
I like this darker one better. Also the font size needs to be a bit bigger.
Posted Dec 28, 2008 11:26 pm PT
The black/grey scheme looks good

I actually don't mind the white background in the text areas but other parts of the site that don't include text don't also need to be white. Headers, borders, etc. can be some other color.
I might be in the minority but I thought the old scheme might have been a little too dark. But now it is a bit too light, but that isn't my main complaint. I'd really like to see the bugs get fixed, first and foremost (no paragraph spacing in blog comments unless we manually add "br" tags, writers' names getting bunched up together, and so on).
I hope 2009 is a better year for everyone, not just on TV.com but in the wider world. It's good to know that feedback is getting noticed but I hope it doesn't lead to a lot of tinkering in the coming months. That's kind of what led to the problems in the past 4 months.

Liking the darker margins. Some dark lines to split things into sections in the white bit would also be great.
Posted Dec 30, 2008 10:51 am PT
Black margins are good, but the font need to be darker and BIGGER!
Oh, and please make the center off white or gray!
No more blinding white.
Posted Dec 30, 2008 1:32 pm PT
That looks much better than the grey/white the site has now. I like it.
Posted Dec 30, 2008 4:21 pm PT
Darker is better. Altius, citius, obscurius!
Posted Dec 31, 2008 10:29 pm PT
I like the black margins

The darker style looks better but I still miss the way it looked before with the blue. I liked the old tv.com better or even when it was tvtome.com.
Posted Jan 2, 2009 2:59 pm PT
I like it. I think it provides a good contrast with the white. I'd also like to see some contrast on the profile pages. Like having different color cells for tables. Something similar to what's been done at GS. I use the white version of GS just so you know. Thanks for asking what we think.

It's the central white space that's the main issue. We need a light color in the center--not white, to make the site readable (as well as larger fonts). I'm not fond of the black borders.
Posted Jan 4, 2009 2:20 pm PT
I'm not sure this addresses the concerns of the "too white/too small/too grey/too hard to read" brigade. The skin makes no never-mind to me, but the difficult to read bits would be just as difficult to read if you simply darken the bits of the page that we don't look at.
It's been suggested elsewhere that the community staff are helpless in the face of the whims of the new bosses and an evil/incompetent development team. If you guys have any surviving influence, please keep pushing for some of the 100+ outstanding bugs and design faults from the September 2008 relaunch (and the July 2007 relaunch) to be addressed.

I like that picture better then what Tv.com got right now. Darker color could be it!
