Afternoon people! Not a great week but a nice weekend to look forward to...

Yesterday saw the release of Windows 7 and for the first time I decided I'd upgrade rather than wait and buy a new machine when I need it. I've never actually upgraded an OS before so I'm a bit apprehensive as to how it all works. The decision to upgrade was made easy because of Microsoft's student discount offer which meant I was able to get Professional 64 bit edition for only 30 pounds which is over 100 less than buying it properly! On DJ's advice I shall go for a clean install which means I need to make sure I've got everything off my machine, and also that I've got a list of my programs. Normally when I get an empty machine I have the old one to make sure I install everything again but that's not the case this time!

On Tuesday I had a phone call telling me that once again work will be unable to fund my college course. I suppose I can understand where they're coming from and after all the redundancies and budget cuts I suppose I could see it coming. I then made a comment on Facebook which I don't think was particularly bad and didn't say anything bad about the company or my boss, but boy did he has a good moan at me for it! He hadn't actually seen it but some of my FB friends work in the office he's at so someone must've told him. He went on to say that people get sacked for putting stuff on there to which I replied that I know that which is why I don't feel I said anything bad! After going to college yesterday I decided that even though the course is a bit too expensive for me, I really would prefer to finish it anyway. It's a shame that it actually came down to me paying as if I'd done that in the first place then none of this would've happened!

In gaming, a second play through of Dead Space is turning out to be a very speedy affair. What with the powered up weapons and knowing where to go, I should complete it in half the time that it took me the first time. It's just as good second time round although it is quite easy. That can be a good and a bad thing as the frustrating sections from the first run, have all been completed first time without any problems. As I had amassed a vast amount of ammo and med packs I was able to sell to them for a lot of money and with everything I've received on my second go I was easily able to get the Maxed Out achievement. Now I have tons of nodes and loads of money that I have nothing left to use them on! I've completed the first ten chapters in less than a week so I should have the game finished off sometime tomorrow I'd hope. I'm not sure what to play next, the ones I have left will either take time to finish or take time to get the achievements. After playing a serious game maybe I should make a start on Lego: Indiana Jones.

On tv.com, there seems to be a lot of things going on this week! First up is the change in colour of the tv.com logo (again). I actually think it looks better and fits the colour scheme of the rest of the site better. Then there's the new weekly chat with a Survivor former contestant (not that it bothers me, it's just something interesting happening!) and also the new TV.com UK podcast which will hopefully follow in the footsteps of the successful Gamespot one. Plus with character guides and the new Watchlist still being developed - it actually seems like there's some life left in the site!

As for TV, I've watched:

90210 'Unmasked'. I suppose it was quite hard for a teen drama to go more than a few episodes without someone being pregnant. What is it with this genre? After like 50 years of TV, how come there's only ever one storyline in these types of shows?!
Heroes 'Tabula Rasa' and I just wish that for once we could finally get back to what season one was about. I'll allow a couple of season in the middle to mix things up as people would've complained if every episode was the same, but now things are so far off track the powers are secondary. As expected, Peter and Hiro make a great combination but Peter and Sylar really need to get back all their powers and memories and then go head to head! The carnival was a great idea as it's the perfect place to develop a community of people with powers and the potential there is really high.
Castle 'When the Bough Breaks'. Excellent as always! I do wish though that they'd stop making out that the main character is going to leave the show. After they mention it, you just know it's a waiting game until something changes their mind.
Melrose Place 'Windsor'. I'm glad I was sitting down for this as I actually thought this was really good! A solid episode with no really boring sections and there literally seemed to be something going on in every scene rather than the odd bits of filler. One episode isn't enough to completely change my mind but I'd like more of the same please!
Sons of Anarchy 'Gilead'. Just brilliant - at last! There were plenty of outstanding scenes and it didn't feel like a second cl.ass show that is really only aimed at people who are familiar with motorcycle clubs. Now it's beginning to evolve into a fully watchable show and I'm loving it!
Mad Men 'The Colour Blue'. I haven't mentioned this for a while and there's a good reason for that - it's just plain and utter rubbish. Can someone tell me what actually happens to make it ever worth watching?
The Simpsons 'Treehouse of Horror XX'. I've never been a fan of the Treehouse of Horror episodes and this was no exception. I never really find them funny and often think it's just a waste of a perfectly good episode.
Entourage 'Season Six'. So after a couple of months of watching I have finally caught up on all six seasons of the show. I can't believe I gave up on the show after episode two as this is probably my top comedy now! There aren't any bad seasons although some are better than others. Season six is probably my least favourite but now that Ari has Lloyd back under him, the incredibly funny abuse can get back to normal!

Good - Melrose Place 'Windsor', Heroes 'Tabula Rasa', Sons of Anarchy 'Gilead', Gossip Girl 'Enough About Eve', Greek 'Fight The Power', Lie To Me 'Honey', Castle 'When the Bough Breaks'.

Indifferent - Brothers & Sisters 'From France With Love', Dexter 'Dex Takes a Holiday', American Dad 'Brains, Brains, and Automobiles', The Cleveland Show 'Birth of a Salesman'.

Bad - Bored To Death 'The Case of the Beautiful Blackmailer', 90210 'Unmasked', Mad Men 'The Colour Blue', The Simpsons 'Treehouse of Horror XX'.

My album for the day is Circle by Bon Jovi.

My shuffle song for the day is 'Monster' by The Automatic.

My thing to ponder for today is: Doesn't 'expecting the unexpected' make the unexpected expected?

The Facebook thing can be tough. Even something innocuous can get you in trouble. I persoanlly avoid it all together. I have been in IT for the last decade plus and I liked Vista. I am moving to Windows 7 and I'm planning on buying a new machine as well for my business. I have four or five PC's on a network at home. I tried to watch Bored to Death unfortunately that's what the show did to me. I agree about Treehouse. I actually got a rant PM from another user calling me an Idiot etc. for writing my review. I could have reported them, but just ignored it as my feedback has been 10 positive to one negative. Castle has been great and The Cleveland Show did improve with this last episode. Good Stuff, take care, Jeffery

I've said it before and I'll say it again Heroes seems so concered with jumping out of their formula, characters have to many powers & getting back to what they think season 1 was about that they end up messing things up more. This volume is an improvement over 4 to say the least but I feel like with Peter, Hiro & Sylar the 3 most powerful characters they're always so concerned with de-powering them. I get the impulse but it just stinks especially because I thought (along with a lot of people) that Sylar and Peter were always supposed to be intertwined pair of titans that would get to battle one another time and again in multiple ways. That seems to be the case they are working on & I think it still is but I just hope the show does too.

Good luck with the Windows 7 install Let us know what you think of it when its up and running!!

Such a shame about your work and your college course. The FB thing as well sounds even more unfair, pretty crappy of someone at your work to tell your boss about it even though it wasn't that bad

The company that my Mom works for asks if you have any "social networking web sites that you visit often?" Then they go to those sites that you list and if there is any company gossip or bashing... You are out of there. Here boss even has to check sites every other month. To me it's just wrong but it's out there for all to see. I have thought about a Windows 7 upgrade but I think I'll wait and see how things go with it first. Good luck with your upgrade. Love the Point to Ponder today. I just may have to steal it for my Facebook thought of the day. Have a great weekend.

Hello there You are lucky to get such a nice deal on Windows 7. I’d do a clean install as well, so make sure you save properly all your programs, files and whatnot befote getting started. I am not good at finding my way around new operating systems, you’ll tell us how 7 goes.

Too bad you have to pay for collage, but I’d finish it too. So meh that your boss heard about your Fb comment, do people like to gossip or what? It doesn’t sound that bad to me at all as to be told off about it. Oh well.

Yeah, I noticed about the tv.com logo change of colour. I actually like it better in blue cause it matches the layout better and cause it’s my fav colour
Lol, guess you are right about the sentence to ponder, but one can never fully know what's to come, which I think it's good. Have a nice weekend. Hugs

I'd de-friend anyone at work and make sure updates are friend-only.

Jeffery: I just couldn't avoid it all together! There's a few people from tv.com on there that I speak to more often than on here.
Well I'm having lots of trouble getting the Win7 download onto a bootable disk. Looks like I need to wait for DJ to get back off his holiday so that he can walk me through it. That's a lot of PCs! Do they all have different functions?
It's a stupid name for a TV show as it can lead to many people saying that's exactly what it does. Feel free to point that user to my short review! If he wants to argue that it was good I'd be more than happy to! lol

Ash: Basically that's just a long version of exactly how I feel so I'm glad we're on the same page! The Peter/Sylar thing has so much life left in it that I hope it's sooner rather than later that they get back to it! The carnival seems to be a nice introduction for this season but none of them seen powerful enough to really make a lasting impression.

Nat: I need more than luck! Can't do it at the minute but as soon as I do I'll post a review! It was more what someone wrote in response to what I said - my boss didn't like that!

Scott: Wow, really? I can't believe that they're even allowed to ask that! Surely you can just not add them as friends though and they can't read it?! I don't know if you'd call tv.com as a social networking site. I think it's safe for me to post whatever I like on here as they're not likely to read it. It's the only time I wish my username wasn't my real name as googling me will probably bring up my profile.
Feel free to steal it! As you probably know I'm on Facebook if you wanted to add me! Obviously you can remain anonymous if you'd prefer though.

Boom: I need to work out which programs are free to download and which ones came as part of the PC package when I bought it.
People do seem to like to gossip. He works in a different office so people can gossip all they like and I wouldn't know!
The new tv.com logo is much better, orange always seemed like an odd choice!

jekyll: I would but I still want some of them as my friends and I don't know who it was!

I actually went Wednesday to buy a new computer and found none available. They had apparently pulled all the ones of their shelves to upgrade them to 7, but they couldn't sell any of them until Thursday. I went into an office store and found the same problem, except they had one computer left that had vista on it. the guy had just marked it on clearance. I ended up getting it plus an additional $100 off because it didn't come with a free upgrade to 7. I ended up paying less than $400 for a computer that was originally over $700. Not bad!

I suppose there has to be a period where there is a changeover, although you'd think they would get some new ones in whilst the others are going off to be upgraded. I think you made the right move though as you got a good deal on a still good machine. You can get some kinda Win7 package for less than the discount you got anyway so you got a great bargain!
