I haven't visited MovieTome in ages but I thought I'd come back to write about Avatar (I know I could have done it from GS but I thought I'd come over to MovieTome anyway just to check how the site's doing... and it's still rubbish... but I digress...)

So yeah, Avatar. The last film I saw in the "noughties" (I watched it on 31st December 2009). It was amazing! The plot, essentially, is quite cliched - a person infiltrates a 'hostile' group but ends up being turned and becoming one of them - and makes it brilliant. The characters are so well-rounded, the 'aliens' so human and believeable, the world the creator creates so stunning that you cannot help but be deeply moved by it and feel a real connection with the characters. It's one of those rare films that surpasses the hype and seems to be greater than the sum of it's parts.

Ok, that's all high-and-mighty, so I'll go now for some more ordinary observations. Did anyone else think that the aliens were a strange cross between ewoks (as they live in trees) and gungans (for the height and shape of their bodies) from Star Wars? Perhaps that's just my Star Wars fan side coming through, but I think there's something in that.

I know I haven't written a proper blog on here in ages, and for that I'm sorry. But I just have to write one about the recently announced Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II!

The trailer, as I'm sure you've seen, features the Apprentice walking down a corridor with Vader and Yoda trying to convince him to turn to the dark or light side - and of course there's Juno in there too. It sounds as though it's going to be a similar storyline in the sense of him choosing between the light and dark side, and I think that should mean it should be just as good as the first one, and is also a good thing because it very much follows the OT formula of good vs evil and it's battle within a person.

However I do hope they fix the gameplay issues that occurred in the first game, which although wasn't game-breaking or noticeable most of the time, were sometimes annoying. If they do both these things, I can see this new one being even better than the last and sell even better, too.

I must admit I was hoping Battlefront III was announced, but this is just as good, if not better.

I got Modern Warfare 2 (Hardened Edition) today and played a few missions - I must say it is awesome! I'll post more at the weekend when I've played it a bit more.

Cloverfield
Although it's a great idea, the camera style is too 'hand-held', meaning that at most points it's difficult to tell what's going on.

The film has a very poor plot that no manner of suspense or special effects can solve. The characters...
