Old- When you say the word "classic" nostalgia kicks in and you instantly have flashbacks of the great music, movies, games that we grew up to, but in this case we will stick to our beloved video games. I remember growing up playing many great games over 5 memorable home consoles. The days of Goldeneye and Ocarina of time have passed but sure aren't forgotten, most believe these works of art are still the standard for all video games even to this day. I still find myself comparing games like Heavenly Sword or Metal Gear Solid to the "classics" that most of us will remember into our old age. But one might ask themself if the current generation of games can hold a candle to the "classics". The old games paved the way and showed us exactly what the future of gaming could be, they gave us the tools needed to create future gaming consoles and video games. The games of our past have created the genre's we have come to love, without games like Doom or Goldeneye we may not have Halo or Call Of Duty. Many of the old games have started a trend in gaming that still gets used to this very day, don't expect the genre's or iconic characters of the N64 and PSOne era to go away anytime soon. They started what is now one of the biggest industry's in all of entertainment, but that is why we love our "classics"

New- Now we always want something new to try our swing at, but nothing ever quite fuels our appetite. We want bigger, badder, better games coming out on a constant basis. Do we even take enough time out to really compare the games of today to the games of our past? In most cases I would hope so, but we don't look at the new games as "classics" because they haven't quite earned there stripes yet. With single player now taking the back burner and online becoming the new craze it becomes even tougher to judge which is truly better. The thing with "New" is, every time you say it people expect "bigger, badder, better" but that isn't always the case, we all find ourselves thinking that a game just doesn't stack up to the precious memory's of our favourite past generation video games. We can all say games have become bigger and badder but what about better? Can we really make such a bold statement? I believe we can, and we will.

Outcome- In the end the "classics" have given us the tools and the genre's we needed to make the current generation what it is. Without them we wouldn't have the great games we are getting at such a quick rate. I believe this year alone will prove that even the precious games we once loved can't hold a candle to the video games we have to look forward to. With great single player experiences and amazing online content mixed with downloadable content, you just can't consider the "classics" to be better, but we do understand that without them this console generation would not be what it is today.

Thanks for taking your time to read this and please post your thoughts. I can't wait to read your comments.

Some people just don't have opinions. Like contracts420.
contracts420 must really love MovieTome and agree with every review we've ever written! What other reason could contracts420 possibly have for not rating a single film?
