Well, after borowing a few PC Games from friends I've now got COD4, And Half-Life.. games :s

I've not been playing Half-life too much but I've really been enjoying COD4 and come up with that its great! But the single player is very linear and repetetive. By linear I mean that if you fail a mission you can tell where people come out and when they will so sometimes gets boring.

It's a great game and I might come up with a review later.

I kind of get what you mean but that would mean the only non-linear game coming out would be Left 4 Dead.

Your definitions of "linear" are all wrong.

In gaming terms it means unimaginative level design that leads you down one straight, pre-determined path. Either that or a story path which doesn't branch out.

I agree that COD4 is linear, but it's because of unimaginative level design, not that mission failure stuff.

I still think a real linear game would have to be something like Sonic or Lost Planet. I meant that I understand what he means about where enemies come from, I know what Linear means...

I agree with both of you (not Clarke ) but the level design isn't unimaginative on Call of Duty 4, it might be linear but hey - how many FPS' arn't? The levels might go in one direction, but at least that direction is interesting.
