I think some games in the gaming world hardly change in their next installments and get praise for it. I mean some might consider this pointless but some games have been praised for hardly doing anything different at all while some have and they get critcised for it. Here is my selection of games that I think have been praised by sites and magazines or some sad biasedfanboys that I think fall into this catergory.
The ones that hardly change that get praised for it
Grand Theft Auto 4: Between San Andreas and this I don't see anything massively new or should I say new at all that I haven't seen before. This game scored very well at certain sites a few high 9s and sometimes 10s. Tell me what makes it so good because I certainly don't see it.
Halo 3: Call me a hater or whatever you want but I find that Halo did nothing much for gamers and Halo 3it scored very well even though not been massively different. Yes it probably had a better online but take that out what is there that makes it so fantastic.
The Sims series: I don't see what so special about this series or what makes the sequels any different. The franchise has had so many spin offs its ridiculous there is only so much you can do in games like this.
Now some games that get critcised for being to similar to their predesscors
Resident Evil 5: While being similar to 4 it did have co - op gameplay and a cover system which I know was bad but come on it was virtually number 4 wth better looking visuals. Certain sites have give this game 7s and sometimes 8s. I know its nowhere near as good as number 4.
Super Mario Sunshine: This game got absouletly hammered by manyI felt. I mean come on it had to follow in the footsteps of Super Mario 64 it tells you how much pressure this game had on it. Ignore that fact the game was good in fact it was a whole lot of fun. It sometimes make me believe that some people have a problem with Nintendo or the fact that they just think every Mario game must be totally different from its predesscor. Of any character in gaming Mario must be the biggest franchise with the most pressure because unlike some he stayed true to his roots. I am not defending the game and saying its the best Mario game when it clearly isn't you just have to understand the expectations must have been massive after Mario 64.
I know there's only 2 games I could think off for to similar to their predesscors but these are a few examples I am sure they are more I just couldn't think of them. Anyway I don't know why sometimes games like GTA and Halo sometimes do get praised for doing anything hardly different maybe apart from addng a better online. Mario Sunshine and Resident Evil 5 did add 1 or 2 things but got hammered because it. I just want to know your opinions and if you know a game that I haven't mentioned I won't mind hearing about it.
Well I went to town on Monday and bought 3 games and Grand Slam Tennis is one of the them and here are my overall thoughts on the game.
The game has a steep learning curve it will take you a while to be very good at it and also sometimes shots don't go where you want them to go. Once I hit it right and it went left and that annoyed me. The rallies can be absolutly tiring. You will struggle if you don't own WiiMotionPlus with this game because I tried it with the Wii moe and Nunchuck and it felt terrible. You lob while swinging the remote and holding A and holding be and swing it low does a backslice just like in normal tennis but the rallies are incredibly long and sometimes you will feel like you are playing real tennis.
There is a Career Mode where you can create your character I think and the online mode where you can play online and the online doesn't look to bad. When you create your character you start as a novice and end up getting better by playing matches and things. There's Exibition mode where you can play as the likes of Nadal,Federer and the Wiillams sisters.
The graphics don't look to bad to say its on the Wii but hearing the characters grunts everytime they hit the ball can be a bit annoying and sometimes moving to hit the ball can be very annoying and sometimes you miss when you think I hit the ball.
My overall thoughts were this game has a steep learning curve and will take you probably a while to master the controls and learn how to play tactical shots. Some players don't like having steep learning curves like me it must be simple to pick up and play but it can get indribly frustrating when the shots don't go where you want them to. I must say my arm got sore and started hurting while and after I played it. The game is not worth getting at full price trying renting or wait for a price drop.
My overall score 6.4
This is just my opinion of the game so please understand I didn't like the game that much.
Some people around here think if a game scores badly in one place then its a massive dissapointment and that it flopped. So many games in fact are considered flops but looking at their average they aren't flops they just scored badly here or somewhere else.
For example Zelda Twilight Princess scored 8.8 is considered a flop here but looking at its average it certainly isn't the games average is 94% which means get it if you own the console.I am using it just as an example.
What really annoys me is some people seem to think that one review has a different opinion. I never actually take reviews to seriously they are a guide to helping you decide whether or not to get a game or not. What really annoys me is certain fanboys have a bit of a go after a big name title have a go just because a big name title scrored notso well here whereas it did on other sites or magazines.
Also just because someone isn't getting doesn't mean you shouldn't if you really want to. If a game is averaging about a 6 or a 7 everywhere try renting it or playing a demo before you make your final decision or you can always wait for a price drop.
I always check out a games average not one score because somewhere their will be a site or magazine that doesn't think it looks that good. I mean games this gen like Super Mario Galaxy has average a game like 9.7 and while Metal Gear Solid 4 and GTA did score 10s here and IGN doesn't nessecary make them better games because on Gametrailers they gave GTA4 an equal score to Super Mario Galaxy and Metal Gear Solid 4 I think only scored a 9.1 there. Also I am not trying to be biased towards Super Mario Galaxy.
The thing is if this site gives a review that you think was harsh don't let it put you off check its average scores because we all don't agree that some games aren't as good as other or the best games ever. It's all about opinion in the end.
