Almost two years ago, my boyfriend's younger brother passed away at the age of 20. The cause was SUDEP, which stands for Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy. Up until that point, none of us had ever known that Clayton's epilepsy could kill him because doctors don't like to mention it. If we had known, precautions could have been taken. I don't know why doctors don't tell their patients, although I read somewhere that they don't like to scare them. Personally, I wish Clayton's doctor would have scared him. Regardless, if you or anyone you know has epilepsy, please look up SUDEP and find out what you need to do to make sure this doesn't happen to you or your loved ones.

I'm sorry that happened.
I would prefer doctors telling me everything there is to know about an illness/disease if I or any member of my family has it.

I'm so sorry. Not telling a patient that he has a disease or illness that may take his life is like the captain of a cruise liner not telling his passengers that there's an iceberg dead ahead. Better to let them drown than scare them, you know!

That is really awful. It's very sad to read about this.
