Uh, I'm a staff member at the Bluehog Gaming Studio, where we make Sonic fan games, one of our most popular is Sonic Battle III (Our Sonic Battle series was made before the SEGA game). Sonic Battle IV is going to have an amazing engine, let me tell you. It really does feel like a classic Sonic game, but of course we've got fighting in it. The engine (Bluehog calls it the Variable Transition Engine) is pretty cool.
If a Gamefaqs user is seeing this, I just prefer Gamespot's reviewing capabilities, I don't really agree with most of the editor reviews. Well, gotta go.
When somebody makes a game, what do you think it's like for the developers? It's a group effort, and it's not easy, and it's definitely worth it (or is it?). If someone screwed up, does that mean that the whole thing is done for? What's the response gonna be like? Should there be a sequel? Should fans have some part in the development? Did we rip something off? So many things to get negative on, but the only positive ones are "did it sell?" and "did everybody like it?". You've gotta admit that there's probably alot of effort put in there, and if nobody likes it, how do you think they feel? Do they feel like the effort was wasted? Do they feel that they failed their fans? Do they drink their troubles away? How do they feel as they walk down the street and nobody recognizes them after a years-worth of work?
Wait, when did I care? Nintendo NEVER fails!
It's not the actual game itself, but the REASON. People are always talking about how "awesome" it is. Music? Practically isn't even there, with only a few actually standing out tunes, although those do count as good, not nearly good enough. Graphics? They weren't THAT great, even for it's time. And here comes the ticker: Plot. So many people say that the plot is grate, but what the heck does that mean? Little boy saves tree, kills a lizard, a jellyfish, becomes and adult, saves his old village, finds out he's not the same species as his homies, saves the Gorons and Zoras again, kills a drum player, kills his enemies mothers (or whatever), then goes and seals his enemy in the sacred realm.
HOW IN THE HELL DOES THAT CONSTITUTE A PLOT OF EPIC PROPORTIONS? There's no character development, there aren't any plot twists (the thing about actually being a Hylian doesn't count), and it certainly lacks simple longitivity. Just how does this game get such good ratings, ESPECIALLY while it's younger (and BETTER) brother Majora's Mask sits there and is attacked for no reason, despite being infinitely better. It had better gameplay, certainly better graphics, and it had a PLOT. Not to mention the music was SO atmospheric compared to OoT's. I just can't make sense out of this...
