I hope everyone watched SNL this past Saturday (6/28/2008 ). They had the good taste to rerun the very first episode of SNL hosted by George Carlin as a tribute to him. I enjoyed seeing the original cast with musical guests Billy Preston and Janis Ian (yeah, two separate guests who both did two numbers!). At the same time, I was saddened to realize that George Carlin, Billy Preston, John Belushi and Gilda Radner are no longer with us.

Vegas was fun. Ate, drank, gambled (lost) and attended a friend's wedding. We're planning a return trip next year just so we can all get to see each other.

I go back to work on Monday, so I'll be on the site a bit more after that.

I'll be on vacation until June 30, so I won't be able to check in as often as I usually do. I'll actually be away from the 19th to the 24th and it's unlikely I'll be able to check in during that time.

Unfortunately, my vacation got off to a not-so-great start with my mother going to the ER because her feet felt tingly and her leg appeared to be swollen. Since she has a history of blood clots in her leg, I was more than a bit freaked by her feet being "asleep" and her leg looking swollen. Suffice it to say, I was awake for over 30 hours straight but she got a clean bill of health and we should be headed for Vegas on Thursday.

Shallow Ground
This potentially good film is done in by a murky script and so-so direction. The excellent makeup (by Saul Gallegos) and special effects don't make up for the opportunities missed in this project. If the script had been more coherent, the ending...

Chuck Jones was pure genius and proved it by giving us Bugs Bunny, The Grinch and countless hours of entertainment. He could do it all: animation, story boards, music composition, art direction. I simply cannot say enough about him.
