GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con
Thursday, Sep 9, 2004

Well, for a long time I thought that games were a common concept. You have graphics, sounds, difficulties, levels, fun, and all that things that you already know. Basically it is supposed to be a fun time. Well, thats not true for all gamers.

I can see in this world three kinds of gamers. The video gamer, the PC gamer, and the video gamer that plays PC games sometimes.

The people playing only video games may be tech savvy or not. With the advent of multiple consoles and big names like Microsoft on the biz, some of the old Nintendo consoles gamers got MIA. The rest of them are with a Gamecube or even a PS2. Rarely a XBOX. These people just want good games, not only AAA games, but the common ones that make you laugh and have fun without too much serious consequences.

The video gamer that sometimes plays a PC game is probably playing most of time with XBOX or the PS2. They like to play some of the FPS or RTS on the PC while the console is resting. They are not hardcore Half Life gamers, that could kill to be with Mr. Freeman or tripping in Doom's hell right now. I'm on this category FYI.

And now, the PC gamer. What went wrong with that people ? Maybe they have a XBOX, cause after all is Microsoft and top tech. They are spending lots of thousands dollars on the last processor, the last memories, the last bigger hd, the last ultra high super graphics card. It's insane, and also scary me.

What is on their mind? I bet you is Half Life, Doom 3, Starcarft, or some other MMORPG. Most weird is the fact that PC platform is more open for developers than consoles. But doesn't matter, if its not a FPS/RTS/MMORPG, than is almost faded to death.

Worst of all is to see some consoles players see the PC platform as the future. The more online games, the more XNA platforms, are leading us to a dark monopolist and ultra boring gaming world, like what music is today.

Be aware, whatever category of gamer you belong....

You left out pc gamers that play console games occasionaly (that's me!). I have a Gamecube, and a PS2, but I prefer the pc for a couple of reasons.
1) It is to much darn trouble to hook up and unhook the consoles when you want to switch games or do something else with your tv, especially when you have as much crap hooked to it already as I do.
2) I'm at my pc. If I want to play Neverwinter nights, I can just hit a button. Lazy, I know, but true.

3) I like Pc games. I play console games like Mario Kart and Supersmash brothers, that I can play with friends. By myself, I want some strategy and Rpg goodness that just isn't out there on the console.

4) console games are expensive, even if they have been out for a while, they are either $50 or not available.

5) Pc games can customize and add on. The sims is all I have to say.

6) and this doesn't apply to my reasons, but you are going to hear it anyway: Pc's outperform the pants off any console out there, they continually evolve, and you will never get the look of a game on a regular television screen that you will on a pc monitor. Crispity goodness.

Okay, that was more than a couple. Just so you know, I say all the time, "Why do console gamers swear off the PC?"

If you took any of the above as anything more than friendly banter, I apologize!

Oh and by the way, me and all my pc gamer friends poop on the Xbox, and you don't have to worry about PC's being the game machines of the future, our games don't sell for peanuts!

well, I don't know what's wrong to be a PC gamer when it's practicly the ONLY platform ( at least the ideal platform ) for hardcore turn-based strategy civilization-like games. I like action games on the PC too, over than consoles, for 2 things: higher resolution and scalable settings; and easier downloads for updates ( patches, bonus paks, stuff from the community ). And I sold my Xbox!......

Ok guys, you made your points. I can see you two talking about the PC's scalable settings, leading to a possible (but you have to admit, COSTLY) up to date gaming system.
I just don't want to spend US$500 bucks on a X800 gfx card while PS2/XBOX/GC full systems are on the US$170 range.
As I said before, if you really need to play your rts on the PC, go ahead and spend your time with your fav game genre, it's ok.
The consoles keep it up (or even surpass) the PC's when they are launched (like PS3 and XBOX Next will do). Of course they cannot be upgraded, but your bang for the buck its awesome.
I still think that PC gamers will be migrating to future console systems, when we see a more robust, flexible and powerful platform on the newer consoles and the interaction between those and the HDTVs.

Thanks for yr comments !!!
