Well, since my PS3 decided to do the YLOD. I decided apon placing it on Ebay rather then sending it to Sony or fixing it my self.
Text me for the link, since Gamespot blog code doesn't like my link.
If anyone is interested, give me a heads up on details on the system. If has all my original game saves as well.
Well, three weeks ago my PS3 witnessed a YLOD (Yellow light of death). My first thought was to surf the web for what options I had. Ran into three options; send to Sony and pay $150. Fix it my self, or send to a repair shop cheaper then Sony.
Well, my wife and I went with fix our self since we found videos by Gilksy. I ordered a heat gun from Homedepot for $20 bucks and picked up som Artic Compound Silver. The heat gun did 750 and 100 Degrees F. Which is about 400 Cel. On the first attempt my.........
My wife just used compound, put the PS3 back togather and no fix the ylod stayed the same.
The second attempt included the heat gun for 17 seconds on each spot and the heat gun never really had time to warm up. This resulted in the YLOD going away. Logged on some Killzone 2 and the PS3 lasted roughly 2 hours. The fan never turned on hard like it did before the initial YLOD.
Third attempt my used the heat gun for 25 to 30 seconds. So far its been working all day.
So don't be afraid to fix your PS3 your self especially if its out of warrently like my 60 gig was.
