I have a great sister. She is not married and has no kids, but she has a good job she fought very hard to get and, as a result, a nice house. She lives about 12 hours from New Orleans and folks in her community are going down from the Humane Society and bringing back homeless pets. She is going to volunteer taking care of them at the shelter and adopt a pup or two until they can find their owners, or indefinitely. My sis loves animals and has a lovely Chow mix and a Labrador. She often keeps friends dogs when they go out of town, offering to do so because she wants to know those pets will have human contact while their owners are gone, not just food brought by everyday.

When we were kids, I always thought of my sister one day owning a big, nice house and no man, no kids, just lots of cats and dogs being cared for impecably and the happiest animals alive.

Nice to see her living the dream.

You do have a great sister. I saw on the news that one of the shelters there was in the flood zone, and the workers had to flee. They put the lower cages up a little higher, and then had to evacuate. When they got back, the animals in the lower cages had drowned, and the ones in the upper cages had had to tread water for 6 hours (in their cages, mind you!) until they were either rescued or until the flood subsided, can't remember which. I heard that and cried.

Thank your sister for me. She sounds like a good lady.
