hello

Hey Peepsies! Got my internet back! How was Halloween last week? Mine was interesting. I had to close at work so my hubby took the boys Trick or Treating. I explained where we normally go so I figured by the time I get home I would be able to meet up with them and visit my aunts houses on the way home. Well, my plan didn't didn't work out as smoothly as I hoped. Somehow my hubby took a wrong turn and ended up three miles away from our house, I had to pick them up at the U-Haul center in Kingston. Same town, but on the other side of town. Needless to say the boys were exhausted but got quite a bit candy.

So, it's finally happened. My CKR obsession has gotten me to watch Battlestar Galactica. Being 37 and a lifetime SciFi geek, I fondly remember the original Battlestar Galactica that aired in 1978-79. I can't seem to recall any episode in detail but I do remember that Starbuck was a man, played by Dirk Benedict. Same goes for Boomer. So when the new BSG came around and I found out that Starbuck was a woman, I thought, HUH? And couldn't bring myself to watch. Big mistake! As a fan of SciFi and serialized drama, BSG has it all for me. I'm actually going to be a bit methodical regarding why I like it so.

  • SciFi, duh. But not "in your face" SciFi technology-wise. They still use telephones! There are no "transporters". In order to get from here to there, one must be shuttled from ship to ship. Guns and bullets are still the weapon of choice in close combat. The "nuke" is still in use and the most devistating weapon. Man kind has not let technology take over their lives. Heck, when one wants to wite a letter, pen and paper are taken in hand. A great mix with space faring travel and good old fashioned 21st century.
  • The in space battle sequences. They are, in a word, elegant. The vipers and raiders move like a graceful ballet. When combined with weapons fire, it's absolutely beautiful. The first battle sequence I watched, my mouth was literally agape. I couldn't believe how graceful it all was. Kudos to the producers.
  • The music. The background music completely enhances each scene. I'm just starting on S2 and have to say I don't like the change in the opening theme. The theme for S1 was so haunting. I would watch the opening sequence just to listen to it. In S2, I skip it.
  • The characters. Lots of them with lots of subplots. It can very confusing if you don't pay attention. I'm leaning towrds Helo as my favorite character at the moment. I can definately say that Gaius is my least favorite.
  • The plot. After a 40 year absence, the Cylons finally make their move and exact revenge against human-kind for creating them for the purpose of slavery. Is it God's, or in the BSG universe, The Gods' revenge for humans trying to play God? The search for the fabled 13th colony Earth. Does it exist? And can the fleet keep stick together during the search and ultimately can the human race survive?

Cmndr Adama

Commander William Adama, played by Edward James Olmos. Edward is an Emmy winning and Oscar nominated actor who, in the 80's, paved the way for Latin American actors. Edward is perfectly cast in the role of Cmndr Adama. Adama is extremely stoic and calm who is very passionate about his mission.

President Roslin

Mary McDonnell as President Laura Roslin. Mary is an Oscar and Emmy nominated actress who is from Wilkes-Barre, Pa- the city next to my hometown. Pres Roslin is an extremely strong female character. She is thrown into the presidency and is hiding the fact that she is dying from cancer. She believes in the existance of the 13th colony Earth and will do anything to lead her people there.

Apollo

Jamie Bamber as Lee "Apollo" Adama. Apollo returns to Galactica to honor his father and the legendary ship in it's decomissioning. Apollo and William have a strained relationship and struggle to work together and reconnect. As the CAG, he often disagrees with Starbuck, his dead brother's fiancee.

Starbuck

Katee Sackhoff as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace. Well, if this Starbuck were a man, I'd call him a flyboy. Meaning, extremely talented pilot, show off and sometimes insubordinate. So I guess she's a "flygirl"? Starbuck is haunted by the fact that got her fiancee Zak killed. She also have major disagreements with the XO and gets herself into quite a bit of hot water.

Number 6

Tricia Helfer as Number 6. Number 6 is one of the Human Clone Cylons. She was key in the attack on Caprica and the destruction of the 12 Colonies. She also lives in the mind of Dr. Gaius Baltar. Like all the Human Clone Cylons, she has many copies.

Gaius Baltar

James Callus as Gaius Baltar. Gaius is a scientist from Caprica. He was duped into assisting the Cylon No. 6 in destroying the 12 Colonies. At first he is devasated, but is now assisting the Cylons. No. 6 lives in his mind and he has many hallucinations/dreams involving her and they conspire against the fleet.

Boomer

Grace Park as Sharon "Boomer" Valerii. Boomer is a pilot onboard Galactica. She is also a sleeper Cylon. Sharon was having a secret relationship with Chief Tyrol. She believes she is human and when she starts to remember who she really is, she doesn't want to believe it. A copy of Boomer was also sent to Caprica to seduce Helo.

Helo

Tahmoh Penikett as Karl "Helo" Agathon. Helo is another Galactica pilot. He's secretly in love with Boomer. Helo gives up his seat on the raptor in order to save Gaius and is stranded on a desolate Caprica. While on Caprica, the Boomer copy "returns" to rescue him and he is unaware that it is all a twisted experiment.

Col Tigh

Michael Hogan as Colonel Tigh. Col Tigh is the XO of Galactica. He's an alcohalic and is always at odds with Starbuck. The return of his estranged wife is also bringing out the worst in him.

Chief Tyrol

Aaron Douglas as Chief Galen Tyrol. Galen is the Deck Chief of the Galactica and is charge of maintaing the vipers and raptors. He was having a secret relationship with the Cylon Boomer but ended it when it was affecting the scurity of Galactica.

Gaeta

Alessandro Juliani as Felix Gaita. Lt Gaita is the Galactica's tactical officer. He's dependable and always at the ready.

Leoben

Callum Keith Rennie as Leoben Conoy. Leoben is a Cylon first encountered in the mini-series and again in Flesh and Bone. He appeared in a dream Pres Roslin had. Leoben thinks of himself as a prophet and is believed to full of misinformation. He has an infatuation with Starbuck.

My favorite episodes are 1X8 Flesh and Bone, for obvious reasons, and 1X13 Kobol's Last Gleaming Pt2.

Hello

Hey Peepsies! Long time no blog! I hope everyone is well. Haven't been in a "computer mood" lately, but that's changing as of now.

It's official, the crappy US economy has hit my household. Last month at work I was cut down to "part time staus". We're only allowed to have one full time person in our department and out of the 2 full timers, I have the least seniority. It's not going to affect my hours during peak season, I' still get 40+ in the Spring and Summer, and through Fall and Winter my hours are cut by "one day", 8 hours. I no longer have health benefits, vacation, time or accumulate sick time. My husband can pick up the health benefits, open enrollment is next month, and I hardly ever take any sick time, I always get a buyout in the spring. And I actually lost 2 vacation days last year because I never go on vacation. So, in reality, no biggie. Good thing- I got a buy out on my 2 weeks vacation and 104 hours accumilated sick time in my last pay. I put a little in the bank and was able to get some extra fall clothing for the boys and get their Halloween costumes. They're going to be characters from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

I've been looking around for a part time job, but I really only want about 5-10 hours a week through the winter. So, we'll see how it goes. I also applied for partial unemployment benefits. If I get approved for that, that may work out better for me. Wish me luck. This past weekend, Evan and Tyler went to Lancaster, Pa. It was a belated Birthday gift from my In-Laws. They had a lot of fun, seems like the boys had more fun at the hotel than anywhere else. But they came home sick. So they've been out of school for the past two days. Looks like it's just a nasty cold. Lots of coughing and a bit of a fever. Evan is definately feeling much better than Tyler. He's been quite hyper today. Tyler is a bit slower to recover.

Today is Jodie's (winterbehaviour) Birthday! She's a really sweet gal and I'm so glad to have been able to meet her through TV.com.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!

TV

Lots of great TV to lift my spirits up.

On Dancing With the Stars- Injuries and illness. And three more couples have been eliminated, not all by voting.

DWTS

In week 3, two couples left. One by viewer votes and another from injury. Debi Mazar and Maks Cmerkovsky were the couple eliminated. Maks is one of my favorite pros and I'm very sad to see him leave the competition. I had high hopes for the couple. A bit of good news though, due to Derek Hough's illness, Maks filled in and performed last night with model Joanna Krupa. Considering they only had 2 days to train with each other, they did extremely well. They probably would have had close to perfect scores if it weren't for a stumble near the end of the performance. If it weren't for Maks being such a great performer and Joanna being one of the stronger celebs, it could have turned out much worse. Maks and Joanna made a great recovery and garnered very respectable scores. Suring the week 3 results show, Tom DeLay decided to drop out of the competition due to injury. He had been competing with stress fractures in both of his feet. As much as I didn't want to like Tom, he did very well and was very likable. He had a great charm and was matched very well with Cheryl. I was actually dissapointed to hear he was dropping out, but glad he will be able to heal properly. PS. Debi made a guest star appearance on last night's episode of Castle. Nathan and Stana were also in the audience for last night's perfomances.

debi mazar tom delay

In week 4 I had a bit of a scare. My favorite and pre-season pick, Aaron Carter was in the bottom two and was almost eliminated. He had a sub par week and his Lambada was all over the place. Thankfully he took the judges advice and last night his Argentine Tango was spot on and one of my favorite dances of the night.. The couple that was eliminated last week was Chuck Liddell and Anna Trebunskaya. I was a little disappointed because I thought there were one or two couples who had worse performances. Anna is a great dancer and I love the way she performs the Argentine Tango and would have loved to see her dance last night.

chuck liddell

house

I am absolutely loving House this season! I love that the old team is back! House, Foreman, Cameron and Chase hae incredible chemistry and work great together. Aside from that, I really can't describe all that is making me adore this show again. It's undescribable. Jennifer Morrison(Cameron) will be leaving temporarily, this was a creative decision and not permanent. (According to TVGuide). Olivia Wilde(Thirteen) is still slated to remain in a recurring role as well.

spn club

If you haven't already done so, don't forget to visit the Second Supernatural Club Meeting in Shane's (charmed1102) blog.

And speaking of Supernatural, how awesome were the last two episodes? I think I heard the collective cheers of Supernatural fans everywhere when Sam chopped off Paris Hilton's head. I was a bit nervous before watching last week's episode because it could have been a rehash of season 3's Bedtime Stories. But I should know better than to doubt Eric Kripke. The mainifestation of all those wive's tales were hilarious, expecially Dean's little problem. And the Castiel action figure was so cool. I want one! Repeat this week New epi next week

Now to the explanation of the blog title. Thanks to Ela and Daria, I'm got a bit of an obsession with Callum Keith Rennie. If you're a member of the W.E.N.T.H.W.O.R.T.H.M Club, Daria has nominated CKR to be the next Man of the Month. Here's the link to Penny's blog

Ela and Daria have also started a campaign to increase CKR's person score here on TV.com. If you are familiar with his work, Callum has appeared on Battlestar Galatica, Harper's Island, S3-4 of Due South, Californication and is slated to appear in Day 10 of 24, please rate/review him. He is also rumoured to possibly guest star in this season of Dollhouse.

I've made a bunch of CKR icons. -

californication

And speaking of CAlifornication, I've begun watching this show. Can you guess why? If you guessed because of Callum Keith Rennie in the role of Lew Ashby, you guessed right! It's pretty good show. Very funny and quite kinky. It makes me blush a lot

I made a few Misha icons as well, just for Jodie, the birthday girl.

I recently leved up, level 17, the Crazy Neighbor. That's a reference to Kramer, the crazy neighbor on the American comedy Seinfeld. I also surpassed 2,000 forum posts. I'll catch up on all of your blogs this week. This weekend my hubby is going to be remodeling the living room and kitchen. I'll take some pictures of the before, during and after. I'm off to east some dinner and watch TV. Have a great week!

Later peepsies!
