Well I've had a bad tooth problem all week which has left me cranky, and groggy when I get home and can take my meds. Should be gone in a few more days but uggh! On to other things. I read the Graphic Novel Watchmen when I was around 15. My best friend since we were 4, and still are, was into many things I was not. But after spending a few nights over at his house playing Sega Genesis, he finally conned me into reading this "incredible comic/novel". I'll admit, it's been nearly 20 years so I don't remember that much. So it finally came out on DVD this week, I'm to lazy to run to Best Buy or somewhere, so I got it on OnDemand. Watched it Tuesday night, and was floored at how well an insanely complicated story fit together nicely, plus extra bonus on massive amounts of black humor. Conned my wife into watching it with me last night before our 24 hours were up, 2nd time in my life I've watched a movie back to back within a day. And I loved it even more. Greatest movie ever made? Nope. Major Oscar noms? Probably not. But it was incredibly thought provoking, entertaining, and visual treat. Snyder more than made up for the disappointment that was 300 in my mind. So if your one of the other 4 people on GS who havent seen it, try it out. My wife knew nothing about any of it and loved it as well. Hope you all are well, and have a great weekend.

Peace,

Bryan

I am well acquainted with tooth pain so I very much feel your pain. I hope you feel better soon! It's nice to see that your wife loved Watchmen as much...well maybe not as much but at least she enjoyed it! It's funny, as much as I find a lot of fault with the Watchmen movie I still find myself enjoying watching it every time. I must have watched it 5 or 6 times over the weekend.

I've never really experienced it but my understanding has it that tooth aches are some of the worst, so I hope you feel better. I was also very, very pleased with how the movie turned out (I just finished watching it again, actually ). Snyder did a fantastic job at staying true to the graphic novel. I was also pleased at how well acted it was (aside from Silk Specter II). Jeffrey Dean Morgan really stuck out, to me. He was the absolute perfect actor for the Comedian.

I loved Watchmen as well. It was very well acted, I personally enjoyed Dr. Manhatten and the Comedian the most. Overall, it was very visionary and deep in what it was trying to get across.

I just recently got over a tooth ache. Not fun at all...As far as Watchmen goes, I think that the movie was as good as it could have been, while staying true to the novel. It was a fantastic movie. So was 300...

Man, sucks to have tootchaches... Brush harder!
Oh man Watchmen was awesome. Although I cringe at the bone breaking part, the movie was so entertaining from the beginning to the end and I loved the characters, I totally understood what's going on, it was just a very intense movie until the credits rolled. I watched the movie not looking for some crazy action but a gripping, entertaining story with awesome characters and I got what I wanted and this is coming from me, a 15 year old boy Man I read 2/3 into the graphic novel and I left it back home... I need to finish it!

I love the Watchmen graphic novel, and I really like the film when I went to see it at the cinema. I have ordered the Blu Ray of it. Can't wait to see it again

I wasn't so keen on the Watchmen film, but of course each to their own. Although if you haven't read the graphic novel in so long you should really check it out again. They'll be things in it you missed when you were 15. Age and maturity bring a whole new layer to that book.

tooth aches are just ugh.

I thought 300 was a terrible disappointment but they I am a student of history and hate when they get things all wrong.

I am not that familiar with Watchmen so I would not know if the movie messed it up or not but if the show is good I will enjoy it.

Sorry to hear about your toothache. I was wondering if the DVD would be worth getting though. Guess I'll take that as an affirmative.

I saw Watchmen in theaters, it was okay. Not being a comic/graphic novel fan, it probably didnt have the same impact on me it would have had otherwise.

I didn't know anything about the Watchmen before watching the movie and I didn't learn anything about them in the movie two thumbs down.
Posted Jul 24, 2009 2:12 pm PT
I was really disappointed with Watchmen. I love the graphic novel, though.

Sorry about the toothache! Glad you enjoyed Watchmen though... I really did as well I need to pick up the DVD at some point!

Yeah I randomly went to Watchmen having known nothing about the comic and the story and I was gobsmacked by how good it was. I ended up reading the comic twice over afterwards.

It is one of those movies made for us comic book nerds.
