I remember first seeing Edward James Olmos playing Gaff in Blade Runner. He was a great bad Guy, you just wanted to slap the smirk right off his face. Then he played Lt. Martin Castillo, back when Miami Vice was in its first run. He had a screen presence even then. He he made Stand and Deliver, (he was a middle class guy that quits a good job to teach math to intercity toughs) with still casted Miami Vice. In 1995 he took on what I consider to be one of his best roles as Paco in Mi Familia. It was a great performance in a high underrated movie. He's made many other appearances in to following years, but I think his portrayal of Commander, now Admiral, William Adama is the culmination of a life time of good performances. He plays character in a demon haunted world, that must continually find his balance of humanity. His character has to frequently send people to their deaths and must continue on as if he had never done such a thing. Olmos pulls it off with understated elegance. His eyes say more in many scenes than he ever utters. I couldn't anyone else in the cast stepping up to take his place.

I first noticed her in a deodorant commercial. Since I don't pay much heed to commercials, that in itself should be a testament to just how stunning she is. Then she got the role as Inara Serra on Firefly, and she truly got to shine. She was often the embodiment of grace and beauty in situations where there were little of either. She played a character that could have easily been a caricature (the whore with a heart of good), but instead she played her character with a strong moral center and let herself be guided by that center. I think that says a lot about her talents.

It has bee good to see her in other roles lately: Chloe in How I Met Your Mother, Maya Griffin in the The O.C., and Adria in Stargate SG-1. I hope she get even more roles.

I also read on the Internet that we missed out. I read that Morena was Joss Whedon's first choice for the lead in his upcoming Wonder Woman project, but the Studio wanted to go with a bigger, more established star. So I guess we missed out on that one.

From his earlier days in Mallrats, (he was one of the brighter spots in that film), he stood out. As Banky in Chasing Amy, he was truly stellar as the homophobic comic book writer. He was funny beyond measure. He was wickedly evil as Azrael in Dogma. Deliciously smarmy in Jersey Girl. With each role he has gotten better and better. That's why I was so surprised last year when I heard he was starring in a TV series. Boy, I'm glad he chose to do this series.

Not only is My Name is Earl funny, it has a unique humanity. I don't think a lesser actor would be able to pull it off.

Nicki Lynn Aycox has a tremendous range as an actress. During the season of Over There, she can played tough-as-nails combat vet, naive ingénue, and scared and at her wits end deserter.

“In-country” she is defiant, self-assured tough girl. She knows how to hold her own, and refuses to take guff from anyone. When she is called home to care for her autistic son, she goes decides to go AWOL because of a close call just before she was allowed to return. Once in L.A., she is naïve enough to be robbed by the first person to show her what she assumes is genuine affection. From there she sinks into being a scared waif. And all this happened in just two episodes.

It was good to see she shine in these episodes where she more screen time.
