As a child, I remember the excitement I felt heading back to school. Sure, school overall sucks. You have to get up early, and there's always that one teacher that's part Nazi but your friends are there, your parents aren't.

However, those joys can't compare to the overwhelming elation a parent feels upon sending their child to school. After a summer of crowded swimming pools, sweltering picnics surrounded by insects, and the countless utterances of "MOOOOOOM, I'M BORED", the sight of the school bus brings a tear to a few parents' eyes. We'd like to say they are tears of sadness or perhaps nostalgia, but deep down inside we know the truth. They are tears of JOY!

Ok, I got a bit carried away there. J Kids are at school, and truth be told, I'm a bit lonely. Not lonely enough to miss them, heavens no, but lonely enough to welcome them back into the house this afternoon with a smile.

I'm going to be blogging a bit more. My composition instructor feels it is a way to improve the writing skills. Of course I could keep a private journal, but what is the fun in that?

Charles still has two weeks before he's home from Cali. I get the occasional call, but I still miss him. The good thing is he will have a 4 day pass when he gets back. With the kids in school, that should be nice. We can have a date lunch...

T.V. Plans for tonight: Wife Swap and Fat March...I can't wait until the fall lineup is back! With the season finales ofArmy Wives and Big Love already over, I'm beginning to get withdrawls.

Sayonara!

I used to tease my kids by telling them I was going to drop them off on the first day and do the 'Naked Dance of Joy' on the front lawn of the school :-)

Isn't that Commandment number 5 in the Mother's handbook? "Thou shalt scare thy children by any means necessary in order to maintain law and order." (If you make them think you're nuts when they're in elementary school, then in middle school or high school, when they go insane and you get those calls that leave you wondering what the heck your kid was huffing when he/she did the thing the principle wants to discuss with you in person, you are holding all the cards!) My son wasn't going to his 4th period class in the 10th grade. I got a call from the teacher, and warned the kid. He kept cutting that class. So, without further ado, I put on my worst clothes, no makeup, and curlers - had to borrow the curlers, btw - and I met him at the door of his 3rd period class when the bell rang. Took his hand and escorted him to his 4th period class. You gotta know this is the 2nd largest high school in South Carolina, and everyone was laughing at him, but he never missed 4th period again ;-)

OMG Kelley, that is the greatest thing in the world. I have to remember that for when I have kids!

If you'd been paying attention, you wouldn't be HAVING kids!!!

Yea, but they are so darn cute for a while...

So are kittens, but they always turn into cats.

At least you don't have to send the cats to college!

I would sooooo do that to my kids! My daughter is just at that age, where me kissing her before she gets on the bus is a criminal offense. So, on days where she's particularly grumpy, you know she gets a big wet one in full view of all her friends.

Public Humiliation: the ultimte tool of Motherhood!! Thank Heaven for peer pressure, otherwise we'd be outnumbered and outgunned.
