watched it long ago, so i don't remember the plotline quite well..but...

flashback of what actually happened with the "Suki" and "Hoshi". They were kind of a team of demon slayers. and somehow Hoshi got the idea of getting a sword so powerful that Suki would no longer need to perform those duties. and the sword ends up corrupting himself. Knowing this Suki decides to seal him and the sword. She was to release Hoshi after, but her energy went exhausted after performing the sealing, and died. and so Hoshi was trapped in that seal for i don't know how many years.
...and we all know the final outcome of the episode would be IY destroying Hoshi. and the end. (oh and with the help of Kagome's arrow)

You must not forget Kagome! :} It really was a great ep. though
