The next morning Aang walked over to the near by Lake to learn Lightbending.
When he reached the lake he unrolled the scrolls and began reading. The scrolls told him to relax and focus his energy on drawing Light from the Sun. Aang closed his eyes and focused his energy. He could feel the Sun's heat on his body. His body lit up with a bright light. Aang opened his eyes. He looked at his hands which were blazed with White Flames. Aang closed his eyes again and tried to focus but the heat of the White Flames were too much. He opened his eyes and lost control of his energy. White Flames shot out from his hands and hit the Lake with full force. Water splashed everywhere. Aang fell to the ground. Aang continued trying to LightBend for several hours before finally heading back to the Old Man's house. When he reached the house he went upstairs to see Toph and Katara. Aang enters the room and Toph and Katara asks where he was, he holds up the LightBending scrolls to show them he was out learning LightBending. Katara tells Aang he can't just leave without saying something. Aang tells Katara he would be fine, and he told her not to worry about him. Katara gets up and hugs Aang. Aang hugs her back, and told her again, not to worry. Aang told her that he wanted to spend time with her today. Katara and Aang begin to leave the room and asked Toph if she wanted to come along. Toph tells them to go ahead and that she would stay inside for the day. Aang and Katara leave and they walk to the Lake. When they reach the Lake they decide to take a swim. They get into the water and swim around. After a while they get out of the water and sat on the beach together. Katara seemed quiet so Aang asked her what was wrong. Katara told Aang that she was thinking of home. She asked Aang if everyone else was okay without them. Aang tells her that they would be okay since they had Zuko with them. Katara then asked about Zuko, how he was doing. Aang told her he was probably fine, and he told her not to worry so much. She told Aang that when they left they should have told Zuko first. Aang tells Katara that her father probably told him already. Tears began forming in Katara's eyes. She told Aang that so much has changed, and that nothing would ever be the same again. Aang hugged Katara and held her as she cried into his shoulder. After a while the two sat on the Lake's Shore watching the sunset.
Meanwhile back at the Old Man's House. Toph was sitting in their room thinking about the visions she had seen in her dream of her parents home in flames. She pulled out a empty scroll and began writing a message on it. As she wrote it she began crying. She finished writing the message and put the scroll on top of Katara's pillow. She grabbed her belongings and went downstairs. She walked out to the front of the house. She looked one last time at the house before she turned and left town.
Aang and Katara began walking back to the house. When they enter the house they head upstairs to see Toph. They entered the room and saw that Toph was gone. Katara asked if Toph went into town while they were gone. Aang looks at the scroll lying on Katara's pillow. Katara picks up the scroll and reads it aloud. The scroll read, "I'm sorry but I have to go. You and Aang are both exellent benders, and I can see that I'm no longer needed. Good luck Aang. I will always remember you two". Signed, Toph. Katara finished reading the letter and insisted that they go find her before she gets to far. Aang tells Katara that Toph chose her path, and that no one else could choose it for her. Katara crumpled up the scroll and threw it out the window. Aang walked over to the window and looked out into the night sky. "Goodbye Toph", Aang whispers.
