So for a few weeks now (ever since the 2.52 update) my PS3 has been acting funny. It wouldnt read blu-rays for about the first 10 minutes that it was on. Now i dont think that it was the 2.52 update that messed anything up, i just think it was chance that it happened to my system. I didnt want to send in my system, because well it still would read discs eventually, so i didn't want to be without it for a couple weeks.
Well low and behold on thanksgiving it just wont read any blu-rays no matter how long i wait, or how many i try. Well the thing is it was a week out of warranty. Yup a week. My girlfriend got me the ps3 last christmas from gamestop and actually got the product replacement plan, to bad it was out of warranty.
I call Sony on that friday, explain whats up and that its a week out of warranty. Now i dont blame them for holding to that year, but a little lee-way would have been nice, but anyways the lady says its going to be $149 to fix it, which i think is outrageous, especially since its their fault and not mine. Before i called Sony i called a Video Games ETC close to me and they said they could fix it for $100 and probably faster than Sony could. I told the Sony lady not to worry about the box that i could get it fixed locally for cheaper.
I had talked to a guy at gamestop before i talked to anyone else to see if they had a week or so grace period on their PRP, and of course they dont. Well i figured what could it hurt me calling again later that day after i talked to Sony. I told the guy what happened and he told me to hold on and talked to the manager or something. He asked me how big the harddrive was, i told him 80 gig, he told me to hold on a couple more seconds. He gets back on the phone and tells me that will swap it out this weekend. No joke, gamestop actually did something to help someone out instead of constantly screwing people on video game trade ins, i was in awe.
The new versions are a lil different than past ones. Only 2 USB ports, that sucks but i can always get an adapter of some sort to make more ports. No SD card readers, thats fine since i didn't use them anyway. No BC, had a ps2 so im good on that. The good thing about it IMO is that the disc drive "sounds" more sturdy than the model i had before. So all in all im pretty happy i got a new PS3, dont know what i would do without it for a couple weeks considering its my all in one media hub.
