As my current article's initial draft is pending approval on its review, I have decided to begin another benchmarking article...
...this time a true hardware review.

A good buddy of mine has a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 w/512MB DDR400 RAM, Intel i865PERL mobo, Western Digital 1200JB HDD, and a Radeon 9000 Pro All-in-Wonder.

His CPU is upgrading to a 3.2GHz (Prescott) Pentium 4.
His RAM will be replaced by 2x512MB Corsair 2-3-2-6 DDR400.
His HDD will be replaced by a 74GB Raptor.
His GPU will be replaced by a X800XT All-in-Wonder.

...a pretty stiff upgrade to say the least! Just the processor boost alone is impressive. Bootup/shutdown times were surprisingly quick, as well as apps opening/closing - very impressive.

This saddens me as his rig simply annihilates mine: however, I also have to decide what benchmarks to use. Benchmarking is quite laborious and collecting the data takes as long as analyzing the data. It's surprisingly-difficult to analyze data and verbalize (in written form - if that makes sense) exactly what you hope to say.

Anyways, he's going out of town for the weekend and I will have free reign over his rig for performance comparisons. The article will take 1-2 weeks just to draft, I'm sure so nobody get their hopes up.
