I admit, I've never been able to track down a copy of the original 70's version, but I hope this one lived up to the fans expectations, cause it def surpassed mine.

Wow. A really good road-trip/coming of age type movie focusing on characters that talk and act like people I actually know. The humor scenes and dramatic scenes seem to work really well, imo, b/c of the solid characterization.

Surprisingly good take on the modern "zombieish apocalypse"... reminds me of a nicely remade version of "The Crazies" by Romero... of particular interest is the second part where we see the world through the eyes of an "infected"... the end is one of the better ending I've seen in a horror flick in quite awhile.

I was rather disappointed in this one. from reading the basic premise, I was hoping for a preachy version of "The Thing"... instead, it was rather slow moving, which normally I don't mind if used to heighten suspense or to emphasis the bleakness of the atmosphere... but here it seemed to serve no purpose but to eat up time. The plot was rather thin, with very little actual happening until the end, and even then there was no real "pay-off"...

This one was rather disappointing. Not the worst remake out there, but does a good job of destroying elements that made the original shine. The biggest thing that irked me about this one is the inclusion of so many night scenes. The fact the original took place in the glaring light of broad day was so unsettling (at the time, almost all horror flicks took place at night). and for them to do this, it shows the underlying problem w/ the remake- the film-makers just didn't "get" what made the OG work. But they attempted to cover over this w/ snazy FX, bigger body count, and trendy camera angles.

However, the movie falls into a deep pit of cliches and trendy "post-Hostel" style set-up. Further more, the big bad in the movie is rather silly and takes away from what could have been a very creepy flick. Overall, I think I would rather rewatch the Decent then have watched this one.

What can i say that everyone else hasn't? This movie was a pitch perfect presentation of one of marvel's heavy hitters. This one renewed my faith in Marvel movies and is possibly the best representation of one of their titles on film.

This odd-ball indy flick is often sadly over-looked. I believe b/c its hard to pin it neatly into any one genre (Sci-fi? Action? Kung-fu? comedy?) But it is definitely one of the best post-nuke wasteland adventure stories out there, imo...
Light in tone compared to classics in the sub-genre like Road Warrior and A Boy and His Dog, this movie has a real under-tone of desolation and sterility as we follow our hero Buddy across it... even though some scenes make little to no sense (barbarians throwing gum-balls and weird light thing beneath the windmills for example), they are more then made-up for by stunning action and general bad-assness depicted in scenes like the climatic battle against the Red Army...
Over-all I say this movie is for anyone who likes rock-a-billy, post-nuke dystopias, off-beat martial arts, or just good movies in general...

But this one is really good. Boyle's finally found a sub-genre that compliments his style. Much as Kubrick's 2001 had an exaggerated feel that added to both setting and mood, so does this movie. The use of lighting and cgi fx coupled w/ weird camera angles and techniques, fit in well to the alien beauty inherent in space exploration. Acting is decent (tho never spectacular imo). the script has a couple of bad spots... however, it was rather good. I even liked the weird shift from 2001 to Event Horizon wannabe. but I don't get the reasoning behind the bad guy bein superhuman tho.

While not the best Zombie flick out there... this movie really surprised me as being rather funny and a nice twist on the concept.

I admit, the writing and character development was a lil spotty... and they decided to use more tell then show to drive the film... but still, the movie had its own feel and trajectory that I liked... lots of good ghoul smashin... and the lil nods to Night really made me sqee tho... Most notably, the radio announcement clip that in now infamous from Night was one of the last things heard on the radio... as well as the farmhouse that seemed rather like the one in Night... Admittedly, out of the Dead series, this is the weakest link, but compared to alot of crap in the subgenre, this movie def stands on its own.

Ya know, I really liked the cast... even many of the secondary characters were played by people I like (Tony Shalub and the guy who played Conner in "Primeval")... and 3/4ths of the movie were excellent... creepy, mind warping scares...
BUT, just like every other Steven King movie/book, the last quarter of the movie nearly ruined the whole thing for me...
Quit reading if you don't want SPOILERS...
the "twist" where both the character and audience are meant to be tricked into thinking he's left the room, was ill paced... it slowed the movie to a crawl in an attempt to lull the viewer, but any horror fan worth his/her salt... or even anyone whose seen a movie in the past 10 years... wasn't fooled one bit, but instead annoyed. I did like the idea of his sacrifice and the last "Boo"... however it seemed way too cheesy and over the top emotional.

Instead, we are treated to an action packed postapocalyptic sci-fi filled with small in jokes and just pure awesomeness.
While a lil overedited for Marshell's typical style, the FX are amazing well done (including one of the most over-all disturbing cannibalism scenes in recent film). Where other films that had inspired this one (like Escape from New York, Roadwarrior, A Boy and His Dog, etc) would turn the camera from the more graphic/bloody scenes, or kinda skip over them... Doomsday relishes in bringing these darkest corners of the future to light in all their bloody detail... Any fan of the sub-genre will def appreciate this gritty take.

I liked this one... rather strange movie, kinda comic-bookie, but not in a bad way... reminds me of Araki's movies like "Doom Generation" and "NoWhere"... stark, surrealistic.. and pointing to the bleakness of modern life... however Tales does this in an ambitious epic style common in movies today. With so many plot lines, I think this film should have been split up and released as a mini-series on HBO or Showtime... but def worth the watch as is.

I was vastly disappointed in this one... while being a fan of psychological thrillers and the splatter-punk sub genre of horror... I thought I'd like Audition in the same way I've liked other great Jap horror stuffs, but I found this one long, pointless and over-all sub-par...
Now I must admit the acting was amazing, and the effects were rather realistic... but I feel the end scene was too much like the "fake snuff film" Jap Horror (like Guinea Pig series)... and tried too hard to be shocking... I do think the neuvo-horror fans would like this one, tho... it is rather in the vain of Hostel and other such gore-for-gore-sake film-making...
but for me, plot and construction of the narrative are important... and while this one had potential for both, they were squandered.
This film, however, has made me frightened of Asian women.

I've been a huge fan of his work since then, following him from the failed pilot of his "K9 & Company" spin-off... onto his modern appearances on the revised Doctor Who and the Sarah Jane Adventures... I am kinda hesitant about his new solo show, but with his talents, I'm sure he can make it work!

Uninspired and unoriginal bastardization of Texas Chainsaw 2 shot like a bad music video... there were a couple of good scenes, but overall this movie was just derived drivel and is an example of what's wrong with the horror genre post 2000.

I've never been a fan of Next Generation, but this movie was better then most of the episode of the series and all the other Next Gen movies... I watched Insurrection and this one back to back and I felt while Insurrection depicted the series better, this was a much better movie... The tempo wasn't to slow, but it wasn't all action in favor of story or characterization... In fact had much better characterization then the previous movies... the play between Picard and his clone and Data and B-4 was interesting and revealing of the characters...

Not the best nor worse Trek movie... If you liked Next Generation, this episode is like a 2 hr long episode of the series with better effects... the characterization was a little off in my opinion... and in way had a fan-fic feel to the way the characters in general were portrayed... occasioning bordering on the "corn-ball" (Data bobbing up and down in a lake saying "In the event of a water landing... I can be used as flotation device")... but the over-all plot was exceptable, and the acting was well done (even w/ the corny dialog)... just don't expect anything too thought provoking.
