Hello all! I feel like it's been so long since I've talked with you guys on the site! I'm done with volleyball camp, basketball camp, and I'm finally on my vacation! Here's the rundown of how it went...

Volleyball camp was amazing! I had so much fun! My coach was one of the players at the university in which it was held at and it was so cool just to get to know her. The school is Division I NCAA sports so these players are very skilled. My team was okay. At first we were very bad but by the end we were competative and able to win games. I definately think the lessons helped develop my skills, and plus I used the camp as an opportunity to learn another position which I'm hoping will help me out with tryouts in late August. My best friend that came with me did pretty well to for her first time playing! It should be interesting to see how the week helped us when we try out. I'm hoping to practice what I learned...especially now that I'm on vacation and there's a beach volleyball net just down the road! :8

Basketball camp was fun too. I was pretty exausted by then because it was this past weekend and I didn't even have a day break from that and the vball camp. Overall we went 1-4, but looking at the bright side...we were in the varsity bracket and had no players with any varsity experience on the team. If we had our normal varsity squad I think we would have done a lot better. The games we lost were only by 4, 4, 5 and then Sunday morning at 845 we lost by a much larger margin, but come on, who's wide awake and ready to play basketball at 845 AM?!

Once those camps finished, I got to depart for my vacation! We arrived to my aunt's house last night around 7 and had the best New Jersey pizza! I'll be here for two weeks and I can't wait for Saturday because my cousin is flying in from Las Vegas with his wife, parents, and his two young daughters who are adorable! Should be a blast. We love to play games as a group- does anyone have any good ones? Among our favorites are Cranium, Mad Gab, and imaginiff... Imaginiff... is probably not a very well known game, but if you haven't played it before I highly recommend it! It's great when playing with a large group of people you know well.

All in all I'll be on when I can. I have my laptop but I also have to start cracking down on my Latin I studies as well as summer reading. I just began The Kite Runner which is one of the required books, and I know I've heard it's good...but I'm just not that big on reading. Also I have to read Into the Wild. Have any of you read these before? Any opinions?

Glad you had fun at the camps. My family and I mostly play Monoplay, Pictionary and Scattergories. I have never played any of your games but they sound like fun Hope you have fun with your family.

I'm glad you had a good time at the different camps. I haven't read those books but I know the Into the Wild story from the movie and it was really good. The movie is amazing - one of my favorites so I'm sure the book will be a good read too.

Welcome back! I'm glad the camp helped improve your technique and skills even though you're already very good. LOL beach volleyball.. don't get too competitive! That is pretty early to be playing basketball. Which sport do you like more? What's Imaginiff about? I love Mad Gab.. I wish I owned it.

Wow, you've been busy! Have fun in New Jersey, and enjoy the relatives, games, and beach volleyball. It all sounds like a blast. ^_^

Glad to hear you had fun at your camps, good luck at tryouts - you'll do great with all your fancy new skills! . Have fun on vacation - one of my favorite games to play in a group is Apples to Apples. It's a bit different than normal games, but it's really fun and easy to learn.

I had to read The Kite Runner for school last year, and I really liked it. It was a bit different than stuff I normally read, but it was really good, and I think you'll enjoy it. Most of the kids in my English class did, and they weren't really big readers either.

Have a great week!

Those are also good games! We like Cranium because it kind of incorporates parts of pictionary in it too. I LOVE scattegories too..but no one ever wants to play it with me. I'll suggest it this summer!

Jeannine
Thanks! Yeah I've heard there is a movie for both which I probably will watch, but I feel like I should read first then watch. Do you agree?

Ivy
Thank you! Imaginiff is played with a board where you move your little pieces one space until some one reaches the finish. For each question a different person is the subject. For example, one could be "If Ivy were a shopping center, which store would she be?" and the answers would be numbered 1-5 and they'd be like "1. Target 2. Abercrombie 3. Wal-Mart 4. Sears 5. Macy's" and then everyone would secretly choose one with their set of cards and whoever correctly guessed the majority moves ahead two spaces! Wow this was a long response!

I learned the position of outside hitter, so now I know Middle and Outside. They are so similar...just a different spot on the court!

Thanks! It always is so much fun! Sometimes being with the ones you love is the best entertainment of all!

Haha thank you! I love Apples to Apples too! It get's quite frustrating when you aren't getting a green card, right?! I should suggest that one too. I'm hoping I'll like the Kite runner. I've heard from lots of people it's good and that's reasuring but there's just so many better things to do than read sometimes!

I'm glad you had fun at both your camps! omg I could never imagine playing basketball at 8.45am!! That's way to early for me! yeah I've heard the Kite Runner is good, but I've never heard of that other book before.

Yeah, well last season was the first season ever playing and I got to play middle and I suppose I didn't really have an opinion on it because there were 30 girls on the team and I was just thankful to be playing!

BigCity
Haha it was definately tough playing at 845! No one was awake then!

One of my favorite games to play with a group is called Apples to Apples. It is very silly and goofy. Basically, each round one person sits out and is the judge. They flip over an adjective card which says something like juicy or hilarious, or inspired or something like that. Each player has 7 noun cards (famous people, things...) that they have to pick one that best embodies the adjective and the judge picks the best one. It is especially fun if you have an odd since of humor. It is 10 kinds of fun. Hope you have a great time with your family.

Glad you had fun at camp, sounds like you learned a lot.

Sounds like you're in for a fun vacation too.

Glad you had a good time at volleyball and basketball camp! I'd be exhausted after that. I only used to do tennis camp during summer.
I second the person who said Apples to Apples. That's fun. My favorite game to play with my friends is called Quelf. It's seriously random, but really fun.

Ohh yes Apples to Apples is great isn't it? One time, I had to stop playing because I was with my friend and her brother, and the adjective was "depressing" so I put "The Great Depression" and her brother put "Doctors" and she chose doctors! What the hell!? SMG
Thanks- and I hope so!

LaBuona
Yeah, I was pretty tired. I wanted to do a tennis camp, but it just didn't fit my schedule. Oh I've never heard of Quelf. I'll have to check it out!

I've been playing for 6 yrs now and I've played every position except for the setter. and I liked libero and Outside hitter the most. since I joined a new club (3 yrs ago) I've played on every position possible. and it was ok, they gave me a chance to explore whats best for me and i still think outside hitter is the best position ever

I posted this in response to your comment on my blog, but I'm not sure if you'd check back to read it, hah .

I actually love block scheduling - the block usually goes by pretty fast, especially if you have a gym or seminar (lucky me, I have two seminars and gym on B days ) and you only have four classes a day to deal with. Sometimes, though, the classes - especially math - can tend to drag on a bit =/. You also get two nights to do homework. It was a bit weird to get used to at first, but now I love it. Most of the people at my school enjoy it too. That's a bit weird that they're switching it for you, hopefully you'll get used to it pretty quickly .

Many people are GLAD up here ("I'm glad you..", "Glad you.."), so I'm not gonna' say it. Haha

It's GOOD TO HEAR you had fun. And it's actually awesome that you gave yourself the time for both camps.

What do you mean "we were able to win..."?
I bet that means your team was going pretty bad when it first started. haha
No offence- It's just.. the words you used made me laugh.

Basketball camp...
at least you had fun, right? And looking at the bright side: great idea!
No, but seriously... not everyone is brave enough to spend their summers playing sports; getting tired. I respect you for that.

2 weeks?
'You home already?
Hope it was great.
