There I was, just sitting at work and sticking product for a new sale we're having when two things were delivered for me! It certainly made the monotony of stickering product a lot easier for the rest of the day! The first package was something I had ordered from eBay. It's the first volume of a manga called 'Kodomo no Jikan' which i'm sure some of you would be familiar with from having either seen or heard of the anime. It won't be released in the US (Seven Seas already tried and failed) so I decided just to import it instead! My Japanese is alright, but there are no furigana (little hiragan next to the kanji) because it's aimed at adults! That's going to make things a lot harder for me...
The second package was a gift TicTac got for me from Animania! It was a Konata plushie! It's so awesome! I sat it on the counter all day at work and hugged it tightly on my way home last night. It's a really cool gift and I'd like to thank TicTac for being so generous as to buy me something! I'll have to find you something at the next convention I go to! Also included was a wrist band that says 'I do not speak Japanese'. I've been wearing it since it arrived, I love it! So thanks TicTac!
For those of you more visually oriented, here is the picture!

Thanks TicTac!!

@ VXLbeast - It's never too late (or early) to start learning!

Was it hard to leanr Japanese? About how long did it take?
Posted Sep 23, 2009 7:22 pm PT
@VXLbeast - I'm not anywhere close to fluent, but I can read most stuff that isn't in kanji. I'm styill learning kanji at the moment. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't hard, but it's worth it if you want to play import games and read manga. I studied it for 2 years in high school and it took me another two years of teaching myself to get to where i'm at. If you can take actual lessons, it would make things a lot easier i'm sure.

I have considered learning Japanese, it would be really cool. If it was offered at my school, I would take it. Oh well, taking Latin instead.
What is Kanji exactly? Like adjectives or something?

@ VXLbeast - The Japanese Language has three different writing systems. Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. Hiragana is the basics and what you learn before kanji. Katakana is usually used to write foreign words. Kanji are much more complex characters that have been brought over from Chinese. Kanji words are usually a few characters long and a single kanji can have many different meanings that are determined by the surrounding characters.
