Since I'm off on holiday (hopefully) next week for 3 weeks I thought I'd do an end of Summer TV Blog, a final summary! Breaking the new shows I tried to watch over the last few months into completely inappropriate categories

The Good

Firefly - Loved this show, it was over far too quickly. The characters (esp. Jayne!) make the show for me, they're funny without it seeming forced, the relationships are amazing... oh and plus! The fact the show is so quotable helps to make it awesome for me!

Veronica Mars - Wasn't hooked, but I enjoyed this show a lot. The Season 2 finale was amazing, and I actually liked the main character which doesn't happen too often! It was an entertaining, and light hearted show, definitely worth watching for me, glad I got round to it.

Chuck - Again, not hooked on this, but it's very entertaining and incredibly easy to watch. I love Casey especially (maybe it's just Adam Baldwin in general, swoon!) and can definitely see me rewatching this season, and watching the new one. Plus - Captain Awesome

The Ok

Damages - I really liked this show, it got me hooked quite quickly... but don't think I'd re-watch it which is why it's been lumped in the "ok" group!

Jericho - Loved the characters in this, and still think this show deserved more time, but the stories weren't always there to keep me hooked.

Six Feet Under - The Season 5 finale was awesome, and Michael C. Hall was brilliant (As always!) - but it had some slow middle few seasons for me...

Psych - Won't have time to finish watching this show this summer, only seen a few episodes, I think it's very funny, but I'm not so hooked it won't wait until my Christmas break from Uni to finish watching!

How I Met Your Mother - Good sitcom, definitely made me laugh and I'm sure I'll watch an episode here and there... but it's a sitcom so I'm not hooked!

The Ugly

Weeds - Ok so not really ugly, but it's my least favourite of all the shows I watched over the summer and something had to go here in the ugly group. It's not a bad show, I'm just not interested in how it continues.

Sarah Connor Chronicles - Again, not ugly... just not for me. I've been told it gets better, but I was bored and uninterested after 2 episodes so I'm going to put it aside and come back to it (maybe over Christmas).

-----

Aw, it's the end of summer viewing updates - Never mind! It had to end sometime. I just realised how many TV shows I've been watching... must remember to go out more! Hope everybody is okay!

Hey Katherine! I love that pic with Dark Willow! And wow, you've been watching lots of shows. And many of them, I don't know. I'm still waiting for the Dvds with How I Met Your Mother. Have a nice day!

Hi Raluka I have been watching far too many shows - though in my defense, that's been over the last 4 months or so! Although, it's not including all my Buffy and Angel rewatching! Too much TV!

Picked Dark Willow for the header because that's my favourite part of Season 6 so thought it'd make a change

Shame you don't know many of the shows, stick to the green ones first if you need a new show!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 4:14 am PT
awesome that you get three weeks off!!!!
I havent watched any of those shows except for veronica mars!!! which I loved but they stopped showing in australia stupid ppl
Posted Aug 28, 2008 4:16 am PT
Bigdayout: Yeah I'm looking forward to it too, plus it's got to be better weather in California than here in England

Veronica Mars was definitely a good show, that's weird they stopped showing it for you (I pinched a friend's DVD so I've no clue when/if it showed here at all) - Hope you managed to see most of it

Raluka beat me in praising your new blog header. I could use some Buffy rewatching as well. Very interesting list. It's scary how much I would agree.

I would have these shows in my green area as well. Adam Baldwin is great to watch.
I might have Damages and Six Feet Under in the green category as well. Although, I am also not that interested in rewatching Damages. But I will tune in again. It is a very dark show with some fantastic stuff. And I do have a soft spot for SFU. I used to love it so much (David and Claire being a pig part of that). Brilliant dark comedy that was my favorite for a long time (since I am a late comer to Buffy & Co ). It did get worse though, so you are making the less nostalgic judgment with "ok". HIMYM & Jericho & Psych are perfectly placed - nice stuff but I wouldn't loose sleep over it, at least so far.
I liked early Weeds but I lost track so who am I to argue with "ugly". SCC - I think I watched the pilot but I already forgot about it, so no complaints either.

Enjoy your holiday - it sounds just great. And don't forget to make a whole lot of pictures.

Hey Ela Glad you like the header too, it's nice watching so many shows, means I get to change it a lot!

Adam Baldwin is my new TV crush, so I expect I'll be rambling on about him for awhile. I think it's more Jayne that I loved - but it carried over to the actor

I had Damages and Six Feet Under in green to begin with, but I felt like I was being too nice (if there's such a thing) so I moved them down the list! Michael C. Hall was brilliant in SFU so I can't disagree with anything you said, I wish the show hadn't dipped in the middle for me because otherwise it would have been one of my clear favourites too!

Glad you agreed with the other choices and barring any horrid complications I'm sure I'll have a fab break away - and certainly won't miss out on any pictures!!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 4:42 am PT
Damages and Jericho are my two favourite shows: how dare you put them in OK Only kidding lol.

Tom.
Posted Aug 28, 2008 6:13 am PT
Sorry Tom!I was torn about Jericho, because I did really enjoy it... but it was one of the earlier shows I watched so maybe that's it, I just can't remember how much I liked it!! Damages was good too... but I had too many "goods" and not enough mediums... so I got a bit stricter with my "good" criteria!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 6:16 am PT
I love Firefly! It was such a great show with such great characters. I only got into it after the show ended...I wish that they kept it around. At least they made a movie... I've also recently started watching Psych. Hilarious! Summer is a great time to try new shows and catch up on old ones. Well, I hope you have a nice day
Posted Aug 28, 2008 7:13 am PT
Thanks Fwirrel I'd been meaning to watch Firefly for awhile, but only got round to it this year - but I'm definitely glad I did. I saw the movie ages ago but I want to rewatch it now I've seen the series!

I'm finding Psych pretty funny too I just don't have time to keep it up, but I definitely think I'm going to return to it when I get the chance!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 7:37 am PT
you should really go back to SCC soon. Christmas too far away! You're not giving it a fair chance that way. Or maybe its just not your thing.

Love firefly aswell! Very quotable. I agree with what you said about the humour, it's not forced. Glad you liked VM!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 8:30 am PT
I just Love Firefly! I could go on a rant here but I wount.
I liked this blog, I would have placed Sarah Connor higher, but all in all we agree.
And I dont think I have to say I really like VM.
Hope you enjoy your holliday.
Posted Aug 28, 2008 8:32 am PT
As a rabid Terminator affcionado (I have seen the first one over 200 times) I absolutely refuse to watch "The Sarah Conner Chronicles". It is not canon, and it is utterly absurd. Terminator 4...I am dying to see that!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 9:38 am PT
Hey Cian - I wanted to like the terminator series because I like the movies but I think if I force myself to watch it now I just won't like it, so I'd rather start all again a little while down the road! I'm very glad I decided to watch Firefly and VM over summer, you're right they're both good shows
Posted Aug 28, 2008 10:29 am PT
Thanks Igarka, I'm sure I will have a nice holiday! Be good to have a break away! Glad we mostly agree on the shows I mentioned - oh and incase there's another Firefly blog coming up in the future - rant away I'm definitely a fan of the show now!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 10:32 am PT
Don't hold back there Regulator! I know what you mean, I'm a fan of the movie too... that's why I wanted to like the TV series; but I think it's probably why I don't. I'm looking forward to the new Terminator movie too though - I think that looks like it could be very good, hopefully it won't disappoint!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 10:34 am PT
Wow! Thats a lot of shows....about as many as I usually watch in a year BUT, see you have more shows in your "Good" category than in your "Bad" one, so that suggests a successful summer!

I'm chuffed that VM is in your "good" category..as you know its always worrying when you get someone to watch a show you love in case they don't like it. So yay for VM!

Most of the other shows I'll probably never watch but if I do decide to, you'll be my very own reviewer to let me know whether to bother!

Have a lovely holiday (Hopefully catch up with you before you go? Camera?)
Posted Aug 28, 2008 11:45 am PT
Lol, you thought Veronica Mars was light-hearted!? That's funny, but true to an extent I guess...

I never understood why people love Firefly, but I agree it's very quotable. I love this for instance (which seems to have been adopted into net-speak) 'I'll be in my bunk'.
Posted Aug 28, 2008 12:12 pm PT
Firefly and Chuck are awesome! And Adam Baldwin's not so bad himself. I enjoyed Firefly much better than Angel and Buffy, so it really makes me sad that it only lasted one season, while the other two got so many more.

I agree about Jericho, it was intriguing but not always captivating. I don't regret watching both seasons, but I probably won't see it again.

However I do love Psych and look forward to each new episode. It's one of my favorite shows.

Weeds was okay, but it never really got me hooked, and I stopped watching after the 2nd episode of the 2nd season. There was just better television to watch. I watched the first episode of the Sarah Conner Chronicles and I didn't really enjoy it either, it was okay, but I didn't feel drawn to any of the characters.

You watched all of those over the summer? Wow and I thought I was obsessed with TV. Well, I suppose I've watched a lot, just some of it is repeat viewings of the same show (such as Band of Brothers, I'm on the 3rd viewing in as many weeks).

Have an outstanding day!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 12:26 pm PT
I love Veronica Mars and HIMYM! Both great shows.

I couldn't get into Firefly, it just wasn't for me. I did love the last episode, and the movie is pretty great!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 12:55 pm PT
Hey Elly, yeah pretty successful summer watching, I came away with a few new shows that I love so thats more than I was expecting... If you do get round to any, I'd probably say Chuck is a lot of fun; I'd say Firefly but you'll watch that when you want to
Posted Aug 28, 2008 12:56 pm PT
Rebecca : I know what you mean about VM it has it's serious storylines - but I couldn't take the show too seriously myself, because... well, it's teen detective! Light hearted probably isn't the best words to describe it, but I'm glad you knew what I meant...!

I loved Firefly for the characters, can't speak for everyone else, but I just thought they were hilarious. I mean I don't like westerns and I'm not too fussed about shows based in space - so I shouldn't have liked it, but the characters just won me over
Posted Aug 28, 2008 12:59 pm PT
WolfSeyonne: Band of Brothers is amazing - I've let someone borrow my copy at the moment, otherwise I'd probably be watching it again now you've reminded me

I can't say I enjoyed Firefly more than Angel, but that could because Angel had so much time to develop, whereas Firefly only got that one season. I'm not sure if I prefer Firefly to Buffy - it's tough to call, because if Buffy had only had 1 season then I'd say I prefer Firefly, but as it is - Buffy had so much more time I find it hard to compare them...

I'm looking forward to getting into Psych, the only reason I know I won't watch it is there's just not enough time left over summer.... I had a very TV few months I'll admit that Got a little bit obsessed because I had a mission to get through a lot of shows, and happily ( and maybe a little sadly!) I achieved said mission!

Anyway I'll stop rambling, thanks for your comment, can't say I think too differently myself
Posted Aug 28, 2008 1:04 pm PT
TvFan: Firefly is not for everyone I can't stand people who get all angry about other people not liking their favourite shows, each to their own and all that... Glad you liked the movie though - I've still got to get round to rewatching it, haven't seen it since it came out!

VM was definitely fun to watch for me... and HIMYM is better than I expected for a sitcom - so can't disagree with you there
Posted Aug 28, 2008 1:07 pm PT
hey
good: Firefly is great^^ I watched it for the first time now this summer, and I really liked it and yeah Jayne is awesome
Chuck: well, I wasn't hooked at the beginning, but at the end I was!! really good show
VM: I'm still on the first ep of season 3, but yeeah, s.2 finale was GERAT I'm also not addicted, but I still like it

ok: jericho!! I watched 7 eps or something and thought it was good enough..and when I hadn't watched it for one week, I totally forgot it, and now it's like 1 month since the last time I saw it lol.. but I'll continue watching it soon!!
himym: how can you not like sitcoms I LOVE this show!! nothing more to say

ugly: weeds: I started watching the first season, and thought it was OK!! I liked some of the characters a lot, but still it wasn't the best show that I had watched!! but I LOVE the theme song ..I think "mary-louise"'s brother was mocking jesus a little TOO much maybe!! but that's just what I think.. so I don't know if I'll keep on watching it yet!!
have a nice holiday
Posted Aug 28, 2008 2:22 pm PT
You mentioned horrid complications and I noticed that you already put a "(hopefully)". In your blog. You don't expect anything to go wrong, do you? Of course I'd love to have you around and review - say another 10 shows in three weeks. *giggle* It'll still suck and I hope you two get your holiday! Here: to make you smile: click and click. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 2:45 pm PT
I really should watch Firefly. I just keep forgetting to Joss should do much more TV, all his shows are great *looks forward to Dollhouse* But I'm also dreading to see if Dollhouse gets cancelled by the idiot netowork (Fox I think). Enjoy your holiday!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 3:20 pm PT
I love Firefly, one of the best shows ever (after Buffy and Angel). Jericho was really good too I thought. Watched the first few Terminator eps, but couldn't get into it either. Anyway, new seasons start soon, looking forward to it!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 3:45 pm PT
You watched a lot of shows lol.
Posted Aug 28, 2008 4:10 pm PT
Ester: I can't really argue with you... I pretty much agree completely Although I probably like Jericho a bit more than you! The reason I'm not a big fan of sitcoms is sometimes I think the humour feels a bit forced... plus I do like my drama
Posted Aug 28, 2008 4:50 pm PT
Thank you so much Ela Those pics are just awesome... what's better than awesome? The answer of course being those pics. They are the instant cheer up! Those men are just perfect. I'm off to swoon again

As for the holiday plans, they've been somewhat thwarted by my evil doctor who informs me he's very worried about me flying next week because I have a very nasty ear infection - so I'm drugged up on 2 different types of medication hoping I'll be well enough to fly next Thursday! But I've got my fingers crossed all will be well. My doctor just freaked me out a little bit

10 shows in 3 weeks?! I think you're underestimating me
Posted Aug 28, 2008 4:55 pm PT
Hey Twisted I'm really looking forward to Dollhouse too, it's such an interesting concept and in Joss' shows he tends to have fantastic characters & relationships - so the combination should be amazing! I'm hoping that I don't build it up too much just to be let down... or, like you said, the network lets the show down.

thanks so much, I'm sure I'll have a great holiday - always nice to have a break away. It'll be my first holiday in 3 years
Posted Aug 28, 2008 4:59 pm PT
Petef20: I can't wait for the new shows either, I completely agree with you about all the shows you mentioned. I feel silly for delaying so long to watch Firefly

Sarah: Too many shows I think I must remember to go out more!
Posted Aug 28, 2008 5:02 pm PT
Lol, yeah VM was very over the top! Having rewatched it many times I've found it to be far less dark than some other shows -- it's kind of a lighter version of 'Brick' good film. It's funny though as it's supposed to be noir, although it ended up being neo-noir.

Really? I didn't like any of characters on Firefly aside from Jayne (he's freaking hilarious and I love Adam Baldwin). The whole thing from top to bottom just wasn't to my taste for some reason. I hope I like Dollhouse.
Posted Aug 29, 2008 2:30 am PT
Rebecca: Jayne is my favourite and Adam Baldwin is just awesome! The rest of Firefly just comes down to preference... you definitely have to be in the right sort of mood to watch it though! I'm looking forward to Dollhouse too, i'm really hoping it won't be a let down
Posted Aug 29, 2008 3:26 am PT
yay for Veronica Mars. I absolutely love the season 2 finale. Psych and How I met your mother: also good. I absolutely love your icon by the way!
Posted Aug 29, 2008 4:58 am PT
I've never seen Firefly maybe I should tune in.I love Weeds! How could you hate it?Vmars is amazing a perfect show.Chuck again is great.Never seen Damages nor do I want to.HIMYM is great the best laugh track sitcom since friends..TTyl Xx
Posted Aug 29, 2008 6:13 am PT
jayne FTW. That makes us the cool kids lol . I tried to watch 'Chuck' just for Adam Baldwin but I hated that too! Apparently I'm fussy.

Agreed about Dollhouse -- hopefully it's not too sci-fiy. That would lead to badness.
Posted Aug 29, 2008 8:06 am PT
so u no like Psych its a very coolio show and i like it very much and i dont know any other shows except Veronica Mars. I kinda like that
Posted Aug 29, 2008 9:45 am PT
Thanks Steph Can't go wrong with Dancing Angel! VM was definitely worth watching for me, I probably prefer Psych to HIMYM, but I haven't seen much of Psych or HIMYM to be honest - only about 5 or so episodes so far
Posted Aug 29, 2008 9:59 am PT
Hi Keri, I didn't hate Weeds... just wasn't really interested in how it continued. Just a bit blah for me

I'd definitely recommend Firefly, but it seems (from what I can tell) it's a love it or hate it type of show
Posted Aug 29, 2008 10:02 am PT
Rebecca - I know what you mean about Chuck - I tried to watch it when it first came out and only lasted 10 minutes of the first episode before I turned it off. Going back to it this summer I enjoyed it though... mostly because of Adam Baldwin though admittedly Yay for the cool kids!! Oh - and nothing wrong with being fussy!
Posted Aug 29, 2008 10:05 am PT
Yay you're back Gix! Did you have a good time away ? I do like Psych - just haven't watched enough to get into it yet, so I think I'm going to watch it over my Christmas break (because all my normal shows start up again soon!!)
Posted Aug 29, 2008 10:07 am PT
I love all the shows in your good list
Firefly was definitely over too quickly. I re-watched it this summer and it didn't take long unfortunately
Chuck is definitely helped by Adam Baldwin's awesome-ness
Posted Aug 29, 2008 10:15 am PT
Glad you agree Nat I've only just watched Firefly and I really want to watch it again already! Might take it with me to watch on the plane (it's a 10 hour flight so I'll get through a lot!). I definitely agree about Adam Baldwin helping Chuck - he makes the show for me
Posted Aug 29, 2008 10:22 am PT
Want higher standards? - you got it!

That sounds nasty indeed. I hope the meds work and no more skipping sleep till then! *wags her finger*

Get well soon!
Posted Aug 29, 2008 11:26 am PT
yes i did have fun and i'm sure ur gonna like Psych its awesome once u start watching it regularly
Posted Aug 29, 2008 1:33 pm PT
Firefly is such an awesome show. My favourite character is River. I wish there was a second season. I want to buy Veronica Mars and watch it. It's on my very long list of things to buy. I can't wait until season 4 of How I Met Your Mother. I think it airs on the 22nd.
Posted Aug 29, 2008 2:02 pm PT
Thanks Ela - I think it's getting a little better everyday so I'm hopeful I'll be... not quite shiny and new, but maybe much brighter by next Thursday! I can't be sure but I think the pics of the gorgeous men you left sped along my recovery

Gix: Glad you had a good time... I'm looking forward to watching the rest of Psych
