You lucky people, this is a first on GS, 2 blogs in one day!!!
I was out shopping on Friday and I noticed that the new PS3 80GB is out in the local game shops. It is priced at £299 at the moment. The question is...should I?? or would it be better to wait until Christmas to see if it has any technical problems.

My inner gamer, erm I'm not sure if I have one of those
. Of course if this PS3 doesn't play my old games then it can stay in the shop!!!. Backwards compatible is now logged into my memory so next time I'm out shopping I'll go and quiz the lovely young man in our local Game store.

I say wait. Christmas will come before you know it. But yeah make a list of the ups and downs.

for that price I'd go for it. At the very least, it's the best Blu ray player on the market. If you get one, make sure to add me on PSN.

I don't think the new 80s have backward compatability - I shipped an "older" 80Gb in from the States about 2 months ago for exactly that reason (as the local 40Gb offering did not), but those games (PS1 & 2) need to be US titles - same with BluRay movies - PS3 titles from here (NZ, and therefore PAL) are fine. For the same price they were charging here for the non-compatible 40, I got a backward compatible 80, covered the shipping, AND the cost of the step-down transformer required to run it
Always good to wait and see what deals go down around, and after, Christmas.

That sure is tempting! But you should really think better before having the idea of buying it.

I have a 60 gig backwards compatable. Your best bet is nomatter how many gigs it has to just make sure it is backwards compatable. You can always upgrade the hard drive for really cheap.

Many thanks everyone for your advice. I will hunt around and see if I can find a BC PS3. There must be one for sale in the UK somewhere
